  • Welcome to Marvelous Action Figures! Despite that click bait-y episode title, I’ll be looking at this awesome ThreeZero MDLX Starscream action figure and he really is awesome! I will be telling you why I want to smash him to pieces though, but it’s not because of the quality of the toy!

That is exactly how these figures make me feel too, my friend - they’re so cool as robots it makes you completely forget that originally they had a secondary form!

I recently got into this line so I'm playing a bit of catch up. Cliffjumper was delivered over the weekend and Optimus and Rodimus is being delivered today. Though I'm excited about jumping into this line (especially seeing as Threezero seems to be committed to it) I do worry about the line's rising cost. There's also some of the questionable decisions they make regarding their figures' construction. It blows my mind how they felt it was okay to construct the wing pack the way they did. I mean, it shouldn't fall out the way it does. Regarding Optimus, I've seen a comparison video on the vintage version that was recently released. He appears to be larger than the standard version which is cool. I'd say he's about the same size as Starscream here. What's not so cool is how incredibly limited it is. 😢

Welcome to the ThreeZero line my friend, you’ve got some pretty sweet figures heading your way! I think you’re absolutely spot on about some of the deficiencies in the figures - the quality and joy of them is still outweighing the downsides fortunately! - and I do hope this line continues to evolve, especially in ironing out some of the quibbles like the wings (totally agree with you on that one as well!). Let me know what you think of Rodimus when you get him - he was my figure of the year last year (but I’ve always been a huge fan of him so I was a bit biased..!) 👍👍👍

@@marvelousactionfigures I LOVE your reply!!! Thanks for having me, my friend! Though I'm no fan of things like parts popping off, it'll be something I can deal with since I'll just be displaying these guys. Get a good pose going, pop the figure down, and boom... done. I think what gets me is the price vs. construction, you know? I do agree, I bet the coolness will outweigh my gripes. I've had my eye on this line for a while and always considered jumping on. In fact I had Prime and Bumblebee pre-ordered at the start but decided to avoid what could be a deep rabbit hole. I'd already purchased the DLX and Premium versions of Prime from Bumblebee and figured that was fine. But man, seeing Threezero continue to add to the line made it hard to resist. Sideswipe is who broke me. Not that he's my fav character (that goes to Optimus) but the fact that he's just another character in their growing roster. Where you able to snag any of the vintage versions? I was super lucky to be able to pre-order all of them, Optimus included. As stated above, I saw a comparison video and I'm certain the vintage version appeared taller.

@@genefactor007 I’ve held off on the vintage for the time being, as I’ve got the three OG versions they’re based on (hoping these are not just repaints though..!). I managed to snag the comic book look Megatron in January and that is just gorgeous, the navy blue effects replacing the silver chrome are stunning (that was THE definitive look for Meg in my eyes when I was growing up). I really hope the Prime is taller and not just a repaint, because then I am totally all in..!

Regarding your feelings on Starscream, mine are, complicated...to say the least, but could best be summed up as this: Why won't Hasbro and Takara allow him to be genuinely threatening? I don't really like G1 due to him coming off as a joke, while my favorite Starscream is of course Cybertron Starscream who is a competent and even outright scary take on G1 Starscream's treachery (seriously Galvatron at one point in their final battle is shocked and borderline HORRIFIED at the realization that he could be defeated by Starscream) (also as an added bonus he has probably THE BEST evil laugh in any show I have ever seen, at least as far as I'm concerned), and I would love to get the Maketoys Galaxy Meteor or even the upcoming Legacy Evolution Starscream as a result.

This is a brilliant take on it, and totally in agreement with you. The levels of treachery from him (depending on what story you’re reading/watching) make him the perfect Decepticon, yet they don’t fully do him justice across the various mediums - which leaves me with that feeling of what could have been, I guess. Great analysis of the character my friend ❤️👍👍

I like this figure but where it starts to fall apart for me is the lower legs and below. In my opinion, the lower legs are just entirely too fat. They look swollen rather than just large. It appears as if Starscream has medical condition. I don't understand why they made them so unnecessarily fat. Then, as many have complained about, there are the split hooves. I could forgive them if it were not for the swollen legs, which I think is more off-putting than the hooves. Everything else, I love. I may warm up to the figure later on if they don't sell out but those are my 2 cents.

That’s a very valid view - I definitely find the turbines on his feet don’t work well in tandem with the hooves, and the neutral pose is not as steady as I would like it. I never really considered the legs too swollen, but I do know what you mean when I look at it again. The colour scheme of Skywarp and Thundercracker may help reduce the look of it, which is quite prominent on the more neutral coloured Starscream. Great feedback my friend 👍👍

MDLX Rodimus and Megatron is the only good looking figures in this line. Optimus is too small and not bulky enough. His head is also too small. I don’t like the head of Starscream too, it looks too big. And his legs are too fat.

I think the Starscream is okay, but I could have done with a more angry face. 💯 agree that the Optimus is definitely not tall enough, and the head sculpt looks too small against the body as well 👍👍
