In the trade off between height & commentary god was heavily biased towards the latter.

The reason lando had his lap reinstated was it isn’t a hard and fast rule that your next lap is deleted, it is down to the stewards notes. On some tracks it is in the stewards notes if you go off the track that lap and the next is deleted, it wasn’t in the stewards notes in china.
What a fun top 3 for tomorrow: Lando, Lewis, Fernando. I really hope Lando can defend and get himself a P1 for the first time, even in a Sprint. The fact that Oscar got one before him in a debut season is wild. A first step to Lando's first win.

No chance they stay on top unless rain continues into the sprint- rain gave them an edge that won’t be replicated on a dry circuit.

6:11 surely they’ve painted said grass with some paint/stuff thats flamable and that’s why its catching fire from the sparks.
It's just very dry dead grass that was painted green imo.

The grass catching fire due to sparks, makes perfect sense actually!
There has been a curious phenomenon going on in China in recent years.
Instead of using precious water to keep the grass in public places alive, they've taken up the strategy of *painting* the dead grass green!! (Trees and bushes too!)
So if that's what they've done here, dead grass + paint + sparks = a pretty flammable combination!! 🔥👀

Exactly. That was my immediate thought. I’ve seen too many videos of people in China spraying grass green when it’s basically dead. And then there’s the fake fields of poppies with ping pong balls on the end of rebar wedged into the floor!

Seriously! Very glad I stayed off CZcams until I watched sprint quali because “LANDO POLE” was the first thumbnail that popped up.
Agreed…hadn’t been able to watch qualifying yet, opened CZcams and the thumbnail was the first thing I saw. Made watching it, incredibly boring, especially when they first deleted the lap. With a global audience, not everyone can watch live.
Yes, love the channel but man they had me today, opened yt for some music and it was straight in my face.
At least the algorithm is getting us our P1!

You guys are unaware of the regs for the Chinese GP, lap deletion is singular at this GP not 'and the next lap' as at tracks where advantage is gained by extending final turn.

What's nice about the new format (if we must have sprints at all) is that the sprint and the race are at different times of the day, so it is not going to be an a complete reveal of how the race will be (hopfully). Add to that mixed conditions, maybe finaly get a banger 🤞

I was reading the podcast description on Spotify and as I was reading I thought to myself "who on earth could they get to fill in for Matt on a quali session like this" and it's ALEX FREAKIN JACQUES. Regarding the fire phenomenon, I think it has something to do with the track that was painted and the workers may have spilled turpentine in certain places. Turpentine is oily and that is why the fire spread so fast,

If you want to "paint" asphalt, especially in a cheap TOFU-dreg kinda way, you just spray gasoline over it. it will turn the asphalt deep black at once.
Im pretty sure that's how they quickly bodged the track-improvements in a typical china-china way.
I feel like when the rain started to come down we really saw the veteran drivers step up. it’s going to be very interesting to see the first few laps of the sprint because we have quite a few very talented drivers up at the front we’re also really gonna see how bad Mercedes really is because Louis now doesn’t have to battle through a field. He’s now starting up towards the front and I think we’re also gonna get a good look at the Aston Martin starting up towards the front with Fernando.

I see grass catching fire all the time where I’m from. The grass is dry due to drought or heat (often gets 70+F here). Hopefully the rain helps!

3:57 in Ferrari we had a long term pain for a VERY short gain (start of 2022) and then a VERY short term pain (2023) to then have a hopefully a very long term gain during and after this year!

I remember grass fires coming up here n there back in the day watching the V8 Supercars. Their exhaust outlet was on the side of the car. So when they’d come up to the edge of the track, the spits of flames that would come out, hit the grass and ignited it. It being Australia, the grass wasn’t hard to set a light 😂

Five years away + minimal practice + rain = banger!
On the reason of fire, it’s because of catkins of Willow trees (got a lot of them in Shanghai this season), they are like cotton and highly flammable, got ignited by floor sparks. Should be fine tomorrow with the rain
Surely people aren't ignoring that verstappen went off the final turn too and didn't even have his last time deleted. So it's not that ridiculous that they give Norris the lap back
They added gravel to the outside of that turn, inches from the "track limit" they're having to police? Why even have the track limit there at that point, just let them race.
How is landos lap valid? I thought if you go off on the last corner it also deletes the time of the next lap?

Mclaren didn't ask for the lap to be reinstated. It was the FIA that realised that he had actually gone slower on the 2nd lap and had lost 0.3 seconds from going off in turn 16.
I enjoyed the guest. Also, I wish you guys did a prediction of who the best non-Max would be, whether they win or not, because that's far more interesting than predicting a "winner", which is almost always Max.
They probably dumped leftovers from the tarmac paint in the Gras wich didn't dry and the solvents catched fire 🤔🤔
