Don't worry about video length. Bell hopper goes for 6-8 hours at a time lol. That was one of the best explanations I've heard yet from anyone about transfers and porting. Note if you could just reach us how to crunch numbers on then to get the degrees needed for it to run with all the beans that would be awesome.
I have all that in a Playlist!
This is some damn useful information! I came here looking for my bicycle engine but holy shit those saw cylinders are bigger than my bicycle engine cylinders! Those saws must be Monsters!!
Harv I love the way your mind works!! Don’t worry about video length, we will watch your videos no matter how long or short they are!!
Thank you soo much for sharing Harv love your vids. After being injured at work (arborist getting too old) found your channel and did my first proper port job on my 365special. Recently picked up a scored white top 61. And a 272 pot Had no clue what to do with closed port almost keen to rip into it after this but I think I'll wait till you get into yours.
Awesome video, I really appreciate sharing your knowledge. This makes me want to do this for a living. Porting my rd350 now. I’m doing a mild port and polish so I can save the life of the rings.
The key to the primary angle on the exhaust side like our man here was saying….. IT’S ALL ABOUT CYLINDER FILL!!! that’s why I also use a flow bench/smoke
You are a great critical thinker! You have to be able to see it in your mind like it’s a cad or blueprint.
You are a great mind!
I live in SW Virginia right on there line with Kingsport TN. I’m the only person for 200 miles with a snowmobile. Grabbed it to swap the engine into a Shifter Kart!
The bikes have range like a mothuh! Also the power valve is huge for hp!
I’m so good at pinching pennies that I can squeeze a tear from Lincoln’s eye. Now I want to learn how to do that to a 2 cycle. Keep these great videos coming!
Best part of my day, watching the Ironhorse. Thanks harv!
an important thing in tuning two strokes as well as four stroke that lot of people do wrong is knife edging transfers and other parts of the engine.
air dont want to flow round sharp bends and sharp edges, look at an airplane wing it dont got the sharp edge twards the incoming air.
This is the best thing about videoing yourself, it's a year later. I'm back to watch it again for the 10th time. You thought Tinman quite well I'd say it's pretty apparent he took alot of goodies from you. And I'm gonna tell ya what. Between the 2 of you It won't be long and I'll be able to build a tinhorse saw. Or would it be an ironman saw . Im probably exaggerating a lot, but seriously you have thought me a lot. Thank you
That's not doing horrible things Harvey, you can do some crazy things with those ;). I raced a 600 in ice ovals and did some very naughty things to those engines. Should have seen the naughty things I did to a yamaha 292gp cylinder to get it to fit a kawasaki 292 crankcase lol it was a nasty engine ;). Love ya Ironhorse👍
Incredible video Harvey, please keep them coming. I’ve been watching your videos for about four or five months now and can’t wait for the next one to come out. You make it a lot clearer to understand how this stuff works. Thank you.
I use to use full synthetic Klotz KL300 but the smell just got to me. I use VP full synthetic oil now. $8 at TSC. It is JASO FD rated. I also recommend any full synthetic for a Dirt Bike at 50:1. Stay away from most TCW rated oils for boat motors, they have more detergents and are meant for lower RPM engines to keep them clean. Polaris had lots of problems years ago with trying to use one oil for everything. I also add 1oz of Motorkote to my gallon of 2 cycle mix. I have never had a engine failure.
I'm from Montana. I've been running sleds for 37 years and I've had some wild ones. 2 cylinders will run 10k. I've had a couple 3 cylinders running 195-200+hp (760-809cc) that'll turn 9200. That's my experience. And the 3 cylinders are the king
Sir I'm going to make a gift out of a laser pointer flashlight combination just for you I think it'll come in real handy as long as you're not trying to unscrew it. First time on your channel love your show and your information is spot on in my opinion. Coming from Darby Montana
IRONHORSE, THIS VIDEO WAS PURE GOLD FOR ME!!!
IRONHORSE UNVERSITY, HIGH EFFICIENCY TWO STROKE ENGINE AIR FLOW CONCEPTS!!!

Idk man, too much compression will eventually hold back rpms. Moderate comp and loose squish has been a reliable setup for many, many dirt bikes. Also, just saw a set of crankcases with long trenches leading to the bearing oil holes. Next time I put a rod kit in my 500, I think I’ll add some trenches/catch basins leading to the oil holes.
XLT motor! 8000 rpm stocker. Could run up to 9500-10500 with a set of pipes ( decker, slp, aaen ) and your porting. 12,500 and your probably cooking the bearings, and the rings might not hold up without the 4 line mikuni oil pump from the later model. Bought some parts to put one of these together, just haven't had the time or money.
www.wheatfarm.com/snowmobile/ used to have some good info on these motors if you can find it
And thank you for doing what your doing showing us guys how to do things the right way. I've been waiting to see someone do this. can't wait to see it done and spanking everybody on the lake ; )
@jczaher Thanks for giving our Brother Harvry the goods! Have you subscribed, kind sir? It's so simple to do, when you think about it, eh?
That's right Uncle Harv. That RM-370 will out corner any big bore bike. The RM series all handled good. So you can ride longer with out getting wore out. Be careful when dirt bike season opens and roost on them young punks!
You wouldn’t believe the shocked look on their faces when I take my helmet off! The call my fast old dude!
Bless your for all your kindness and sharing your wisdom with us!!!
Great to see the excitement you have for this next project! Great video!
I just recently subscribed to your Chanel. I like watching yours and buckins videos. I stumbled upon your Chanel when I was looking at porting videos and you’ve explained it way better than the other videos I’ve seen.
Great vid ironhorse your knowledge from experience is Awesome love your vids
That 600 motor is going to be crazy when you finish it Harvey!! WOW!!
Longer videos are the 💣 💥 Harvey. If your up to makin them, I'm up for watchin👍
you prolly dont care but does anybody know of a way to log back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb lost my login password. I love any tips you can give me.
@Jadiel Ethan instablaster =)
@Jaxxon Leighton thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Jaxxon Leighton It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my account :D
@Jadiel Ethan glad I could help =)
Used the water technique and it’s awesome!!! Thanks much....man!!!! This is a great freakin video!!!!
Been digging through your videos. I have never done port work. Our port guy left the shop so im learning. Wish id have paid more attention but nobody has ever explained how to decide what kinda port timing you want. Do you have a video showing how to find target port timing? I seen alot about how to change it which i grasp that concept but not how to map out a target port timing.
I hope your shop is not only thriving, but also always in a position to take on more work.
I knkw it's been a coue years since you commented here, but so much the better, really, because, at days end, people generally do give a hoot how our friends, includimg the one's we've never met before, are doing. So, how are things? Have you started working on a "Junk Saw Pile" to hone some porting skills of your own?
If you already have just about ANY rotary tool and a few deceent burrs, all you need to add to that is a degree wheel, some JB Weld (warning: The "fast set" is NOT what you want for this type of work), and a willingness to only work on this aspect of "mechanicing" when your head is clear, and your not feeling rushed in ANY way.
There are often WAY more people in the community pulling for us than we even know. Think about THAT!
I had a buddie we call him the snow king because he had 6 snow machines. He had a Yamaha 540 and you could not full trotale for 3 sec without pulling the front ski's off the ground it was fast and fun!
I'm new to this porting and saw building and am sure this is a stupid question for most on here, but here goes. On a husky 266, 365 and 372 all xp; what would the average blow down and intake be for a good working saw, that will last a few years. By the way great videos, thanks for all the info.
Great video great info love all the content keep up the good work love the channel.
Hangin out at the bench with ol' Harv sure ain't the hard part of my day! Shoots just as straight as a laser-beam, and is so much fun, too! Have you encouraged your people to check him out, and subscribe? You know every decent channel STILL needs that type of support, right?
Long Live @The Ironhorse!
Thanks for another great video Mr Harvey : ) God bless and have a great night!
I hear ya on the plowing we worked Saturday 12a to 12p and then back Sunday for some clean up and salt on the re freeze they don't like us working over 12 because it puts us on the big clock (double time) i plow for a city in a 6 wheeler with a medium duty wing. Thanks for your videos 👍
Always good to learn something new keep up the good work there
So from what I gather on a snowmobile you don't want your squish any tighter than 60 thou. Ha an xlt, not a super heavily built motor, but I am excited to see this engine build. One thing about xlt's is there are alot of them around and there cheap. Stock they will run probably around 8000 rpm. They will rev more but you want to set your clutches up so you are running around 8000 or a little better. hah 1200 rpms!! Man I want to see this thing RIP!! Hah yes I ive spent alot of time and effort rebuilding snowmobile engines in my days, You are right they are made of glass. I am working on a long track 680 ultra now with triple psi pipes it is going to be sweet!
Head down... keep going Harv!...thanks for video!
u r a dying breed.. don't go changing... I wish I had an uncle like u
HEY IRONHORSE do you have a pioneer P62 OR poulan 455 ported chainsaw that runs good and pulls like a tractor need a big chainsaw for big wood for sale OMG1 18 2022
Hey ironhorse I had a 87 250r honda trx with a 500cr motor . It would just smoke the tires off on the pavement talk about a torque monster
Yea! And the 250r was darned fast! 500? Wow!
Would love to see an ironhorse built trx
I had a suzuki Lt500 Quadzilla it was a TORQUE MONSTER!!!! that quad would outrun a built 250 bike any day
Jon Gantt yeah outrun an LT250 def wouldn’t of touched my 310r I had Honda power in the 80s late 80s was amazing . The Honda’s didn’t need help by way of a power valve like the later LTs needed just to keep up with the trx
Darn it. I really want to believe you ARE a mad scientist.😉
I dont understand the difference between the cylinders with transfer walls and the ones that are open into the bore for their whole length. Ive added jbweld to the exhaust sides of my cylinders' transfers to increase the angle towards the intake side and increase velocity,( it has worked great!) but I'm not sure how to translate that to the new ones I e been getting where the transfers are all open with a divider down the length.
Having open walls probably cheaper to make and probably allow more flow instead of having a wall take up some of the runner volume the Piston acts as the wall so it probably works just as good as standard ones you find in motorcycles that have a completely closed wall. That's just my guess I've only ported a Yamaha 400 once. another thing I just thought of in order to have the same size tunnels with a closed cylinder wall they would have to make the cylinder wider thus the whole package of the saw being wider..the rear wall of the cylinder really takes the thrust load from the Piston so having the side walls open probably does not affect piston as far as rocking and other things obviously
Loving it. Nuff said.
You are getting so much better cutting hair in a mirror. Lol.
Thank you for this video.
Love this video Harv! Awesome info!
Would cutting the 272 skirts similar to the way you cut the 372s be beneficial you think?
Sir i have two stroke cylinder i want to increase its rpm power please help me how i can increase the speed from its ports. Please help me tell me sir
Harvey its life. We understand
Were you the voice of Yukon Cornelius on the Rudolph cartoon?
Love this man. What did the CR end up being on that dome
watchin the old 500 bikes racing..i always thought they needed some wings for as much as they was in the air.lol
ya know.............i like your sprit thank you
Why does everyone try to keep their videos short? Why they think we come here? For a short video because we gotta mow the lawn or placate the wife? Hell no. We in for the count. Keep on keepin' on. We'll tell you when it's too much.
Another awesome video. What happened to that dolmar with the stihl top end?
How about fully case fed saws like older homelites? Where intake and transfers are one in the same? It’s loudnproudford, finally changed the name since I’ve had this account since my younger days
NickTheForester yes I’m curious. I think my Homelite super ez auto is like that
Ben Timmers did a mild port on my homelite xl700. But still not sure how to properly go about getting numbers on them.
Thanks Boss
I used to drill the Oil holes too cranks were 600$ in that day
I rebuilt a 600 XLT triple. Very fast sled in it's day.
I had a 98xc that would hurt some feelings
With the saw work, I have another idea. Do you got an echo dealer for the 2511 t? Could you port that ? Do you've got a "business" mail or sth??
I have a 2511t here to port! Where are you from udo? Ironhorsechainsaw@gmail.com
Can't wait
I'm so confused because of porting I've done a lot but I lost a lot help me please tell me
Always keep smiling! :) Life is hard, but nice
Do you need to re-jet the carb or just rich it up.
Do you ever compensate for rod and bearing stretch when you port match?
No! Only on the squish band is it important!
Very good my friend. Thank you. Real soon I will have video on building a 394xp. And then a 372xp. Plus other stuff.
Love it!
@Skinny Pedal Down Great name, too! LOVE IT!
Those Polaris triple really old school. Take apart a Japanese triple they come ready to race.own artic cat triple. 118 hp 600cc.stock.you can make that one run.stock 9500rpm on polaris.
Thanks Tim!

This is GOLD!!!
Why did Husqvarna change the transfers on the 272 & 372
Cool 😊😊😊😊😊😊🤔👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
All good wish i was plowing right now but firewood is keeping family feed for now
Been cutting all day legs are sore just had a shower now it’s time to get some info out of the old timers
Does 9200 rpm sound right stock?
I ment port map. How many degrees does .010" affect?
In a 372 12 thou is one degree!
Thank you harvey. Great stuff man. So my questions where negligible. Don't even worry about it. Skinny pedal down....when I pull the trigger it better go!
How do I get in contact with Harvey
