German is my mother tongue and I also know Rammstein very well. I was confused when you started talking about a child. There is no child in this song. But then I noticed the problem. "Gebranntes Kind" is literally translated as "burned child", but it has a different meaning.
The term "gebranntes Kind" comes from the phrase "Das gebrannte Kind scheut das Feuer," which means "The burned child avoid the fire." It means learning from a (bad) experience and not repeating this mistake. It is actually the child who has burnt his fingers on a hotplate. Even if the child became old and wise, the memory of this experience remains and the "burned child" will be careful with hotplates. The burned child is someone who has made a bad experience. Maybe he knows that there is no purification in fire, but just pain.

I heard somewhere that this song is about masturbation or just about sex. To be exact - is about orgasm. The lyrics fits to it, by the way. E.g.

This is why I love their lyrics. I think they use the diffrent associations of fire as a theme. The first could be more of an icarus theme, beeing condemned for doing something stupid. the second one could be the fire of desire. In addition to that they go from getadelt (condemned) to geadelt (ennobled). Thirdly they could have something that is maddening, like a burnt out soul/mind, going than to a burned child, which like you said, means more someone who learned from a bad experience.
But now it gets interesting. They sing "Dein Glück
Ist nicht mein Glück ist mein Unglück" which translates to "your luck is not my luck, it is my bad luck/misfortune.
Rammstein said in their interviews on their dvds that most of their songs are love themed songs.
So the first one could be the pain of being with someone who you should not be with.
The second one could be the pain after a relationship has endet or a dramatic relationship.
The third could mean the maddening aspects of beeing in love or loving someone who doesn't love you back.
The last one could be someone who made bad experiences, like a toxic relationship or an abuseive one.

A tidbit of German idioms:
*"Gebranntes Kind"* (burnt child) is part of a German proverb: *"Gebranntes Kind scheut das Feuer". lit. "A burnt child avoids fire"* . It's an idiomatic expression for someone who has had bad experiences and then tends to take precautions in order to aviod similar situations. It is of course taken from the common learning experience of a child touching something burning hot (most commonly a stove plate). So the lyrics in the song are not necessarily about literal children, though they could be.

@@FzNd In Norwegian, "brent barn skyr ilden" which is an almost direct translation of the german version. I usually end up saying "brent barn lukter ille" though, which means burned child smells bad . :P

You have to watch the official video of this one to understand the hype around it, it was used in the first XXX movie (Vin Diesel) and the pyro masks are what is most memorable about that video, and why the fans get so worked up over it. It is the proverbial fire dance of the Rammstein concert. Everyone lets loose for such a short song. SO GOOD! Feuer Frei (pr. Foyer Fry) is the German military's equivalent of the American's "Open Fire". Before the XXX movie used it there was a short-lived euro-only music video for this song that was reminiscent of the events during Pink Floyd's song "In The Flesh" or "Run Like Hell" from The Wall movie. With people just running loose killing and beating each other in a very nazi-esque military-style, before it was removed from airwaves, and never aired in the states. AFAIK

I've loved rock music all my life but I never really got into heavy metal until I heard Rammstein. Love the language (it really suits metal music) and love the band.

Rammstein is very limited in their ability to move around the stage. There are fire guns everywhere, and explosives. That’s why they mostly stay in place. Something you need to realize about Rammstein is that they tend to use a lot of idioms, fairy tales, modern news, and legends in their lyrics. The fact that it is also in German, there are a lot of idiomatic terms. Perhaps when doing reactions to music with a foreign language as its lyrics, a little bit of research beforehand would go a very, very long way.
You can feel the heat instantly from the stands 1/4 way around the arena too (top row) speaking from experience.. trans Siberian orchestra, and same area, half way down the area for slipknot

It's actually a military command, and means: start shooting, but is also used in daily usage, if somebody demands you to start with something.

Yeah! Like I wrote in my own comment ""Ramm" is pronounced like "done" and with rolling 'R', not like "raaaam" (/"darn")! And "Feuer Frei" is pronounced "f-oy-er fry" with rolling "R":s back in the throat.

I have taken german language classes in my highschool yesrs (my brother too) and know german well. And the band even pronounce it this way in their self titled song, "Rammstein"!
@@DaP84 Sorry, I'm Dutch. I don't do bad Americanized pronunciations of foreign languages. It's a mandatory subject in high school, so I've had it for years. I also live about 30 minutes from the German border and we encounter them here quite often when they come shopping in Enschede, the largest city in the eastern Netherlands. My local dialect even sounds very similar to German, and is in part mutually intelligible. So yes, I do know what I'm talking about. The "a" vowel in Rammstein is more like "mark", "bath" or "father", only shorter. "Done" doesn't even come close to sounding like it.

Spite my YT name being Japanese, my family is actually German and let me tell you how many times I learned this lesson.
So far I’ve been burned from a pot of boiling hot water, spilled it on myself. I’ve been burned from a hot clothing iron, was told it was hot and grabbed it anyway. Even been burned by a sparkler. Yeah, someone intentionally burned me with a sparkler when I was a kid. Maybe this last one doesn’t count but needless to say, lesson learned.

The band decided to leave the pyrotechnics to certified professionals after an accident during a concert in 96 were part of the set that caught fire fell on it's side resulting in few minor injuries. Since Till Lindemann, the lead singer handles most of pyrotechnics out of all the band members he is also a certified pyrotechnician.

I don't think Rammstein translates in english very well but musically they are a powerhouse. If you could imagine what a German metal band would be and sound like,it's Rammstein 😆 Donukinder is one you need to give a listen. Rosenrot would be a good one as well,I'm guessing it has something to do with religion due to the content of the music video.

I would like a lot to see you reacting to Angra - The Shadow Hunter.
Angra is one of the most important bands in the Power metal boom in the 90´s along with Nightwish, Rhapsody, Blind guardian, iced earth, gamma ray. On the other hand, along with Sepultura, they are the main metal bands from Latin America. For these reason it would be awesome to see a reaction from Angra because they are not just another meta band, in some way they represent another culture, another way to see and to live life, and of course another way to make music.
