I think he meant as a representative of the community. I love mango though I think the Leffen part was more accurate and relevant.
Although that doesn't make the root of Salem's argument wrong. Salem wants people to stop the melee gatekeeping and for the torchbearers to be out there be good ambassadors for the game. Say what you want about Salem but he wasn't wrong about the vocal element of the Melee scene being hella toxic and giving the Smash community a bad name. FGC has long thought of the Smash community as a joke. Some people are tired of that.

Dear Leffen: the main strategy in "Battleship" is to first eliminate intersections via a divide-and-conquer search: Given map size S, start at position {X: S/2, Y: S/2}, which divides the map up into roughly 4 sectors, the next 4 turns take the middle of those sectors, creating 16 sectors of size S/4 by S/4. Repeat this process until you are certain you have hit each ship once. Then determine their orientation and, in order of largest to smallest, eliminate them. If you don't wait and try to eliminate a ship as soon as you find it, you'll end up having to guess where all the 1x1 spots are afterwards. But when you go for all the 1x1's first they have a chance of landing on non-1x1's, and each time they do it puts you a move ahead of an opponent who is just guessing until they hit a ship, and then trying to finish off said ship. You can still lose using this strategy if you get an unlucky layout, but it will increase your odds of winning.
