The Design & STL files are FINALLY Available for FREE Download here: social.thangs.com/m/621414
Just pulled apart an old replicator clone wondering what to do with it…. Well I think the project gods have answered my prayers
I'd love to see you do it. I FINALLY got the design files and some super basic instructions up and available for free download: social.thangs.com/m/621414
Video production is next level!
Thank you very much. I try… hard. 😅😅
Dude that’s such a cool idea to keep the old hardware out of the landfill.
Absolutely. Rather it go to some functional use. And even after I replace the motors, I'll save the old ones for something less intensive in the future.
@mandicreally candy claw machine!
I saw this at ERRF and it was really one of the highlights. The TV screen pi case is so fun with the wooden printer.
Thank you so much. I’m glad the whole thing came together and folks dig it. 👌🏻👌🏻
oh man, those printers were so loud. the wood body just turned it into a giant molten plastic spewing guitar. haha. I had the replicator 2, and while it was closed source and looked a hair more commercial, it was equally crappy. I did keep that printer though, so I was considering doing something like this in the future. cool project, bravo sir!
Excited to carry out this project for the two unused Replicator 2X we have in the lab, need to check it would work first! Thanks for doing all the work on it!
Wow! most under rated channel! Great content, well delivered and cinematography to the top! Keep it up man! this channel will explode! 😃
Very much appreciated coming from you. Thank you 🙏🏻
Love the project and re-use of old parts. Would love to see what you would do with something like the anet a6, what would be needed to make it a half-decent modern printer
Nice restomod! The TV screen was a great project in itself!
And the getting to ERRF was highly relatable, I was up til early before SMRRF to get the vase from my giant printer. I'm modernising my Replicator 2's and you've inspired me to do a few things - remodel the Y carriage parts, and fix a similar fitment issue I had on the e3D hot end X carriage - same rocking back and forth.
For the motors... The original Makerbot firmware and slicer does a lot more than most slicers to retune the motor power on the fly - the original boards had controllable current and it's constantly tweaking to supply more or less power to the motors - as they use more or less depending on how fast they're moving/holding.
Was neat seeing this. I had wanted to klipperize an Ultimaker Original and take it to ERRF but when that fell through I just came to see what everyone had. Honestly until I saw Joel doing his 60 second interview I didn't notice what was up.
Amazing work on this! I am doing a restomod of my old SeeMeCNC Eris delta printer using modern voron parts and it's amazing how well the new electronics and software help print quality and speed. Hotend and extruder design has exceed so much in the last couple years it's incredible to see the hotend competion "heat up", so to speak.
Loving the ReAnimator reference! A cult classic!!!
No way, I just realized that you just posted this 3 weeks ago. Funny because I have a dual extruder model that's been gathering dust. I was just going online to check out what other people have been doing with them 😆 🤣. So it's funny you busted yours out too.
I happen to have an extra Ender bed heater sitting here. I think I might have swap that out and also change the build plate.
Let the Frankenbuild games begin!
It was meant to be. I’ll be releasing the design files for my build very soon. Just need to final test some new revision parts. So maybe you can use some or all of them for your build.
This is a GREAT project, i still have a few old wooden printers floating around for show pieces that I take to fairs and events.
What an amazing intro!! This kind of content shouldn’t be free! Thank you for this Halloween special’
👻 🎃 👻 I always intended the intro to be like that but so close to Halloween I had to lean in harder. 😅🎃
super dope use of an old makerbot printer
Ha! Amazing, I have a Replicator 2x and I've rebuilt it in 2020 with an SKR 1.4, TMC2209's and a self designed new hotend carriage. This year I decided it was time to upgrade once again because the original Makerbot gantry really isn't that good so I started turning it into a CoreXY design, but I didn't make it yes because I'm still waiting for the linear rails and this is my only functional printer, so I have to print the upgrade with this machine. It has an inductive sensor for the bed leveling which works really well with the wonky bed. Ps it's not Fystec, but Fysetc.
I had one of these. Early Adopter! Very cool for the time.
I think staining the wood body might be a nice project. Maybe use that dark stain you used on your butcher block top desk!
Looking forward to the design files for this project. I was thinking of doing the same project as you but was dreading the designing work involved for all the axis and belt system. Great work bud
It took me way too long but the files are FINALLY available: social.thangs.com/m/621414
I took me 4 years of experience with CAD and my printers to get to a point where I can make a functional model without going through a trial and error process.
Great build, I like the look of the old Replicators. I converted a Replicator 2 to Klipper and it was fun.
Very cool project! Been thinking about resto-modding my SeeMeCNC Rostock Max V1 from back in the day. It is 10 years old now as well. I spent 5 years upgrading the control board etc, but never the power supply (big mistake). With a 24v power supply and some added part cooling, inductive sensor, more adaptable mainboard, etc, that thing would absolutely kick butt.
Great film. Super dope project. Mahalo for sharing! 🙂🙏
Thank you very much for watching and the kind words
Wow ! What a coindence somebody gave me an old Makerbot replicator2 black color..looks cool but it’s old. Thanks for doing this bro..appreciate it.
I sure gonna do something on it too..👍
This is really awesome! I'd love to get some old printers and convert them to current technology and see what their max potential is.
This video deserves way more views. Good work!
Really fun project and harkens back to the original ideas around at home 3d printing.
Sweet job! I have a bibo that I'm toying with doing this to after I finish the ratrig.
Subbed :)
Love this project, saddens me that this video didn't perform that well. 😢 My Solidoodle 3 will be slightly more compact, but the full steel frame will provide good rigidity in order to push accelerations. Going to use a Voron Legacy X-carriage and the plan is to use the XoL toolhead with CNC Sherpa Mini. Haven't found many toolheads that won't need modifications or remixes in order to fit the Sherpa Micro.
This is a really cool Project 👌🏽👍🏼
Makes me wanna finally fix my first machine
Awsome project and video! Keep it up 💪🏻
I need to get some of those MOFSETs for my printer aswell.
Love the intro
Thanks to your inspiration, I shoved a Voron legacy inside a Makerbot clone.
Picked up a clone of this for free about a month ago. Thought about just tearing it down for spare parts. Now im thinking this would be a good project for it.
Ahhhh, the Metal Oxide Femiconductor Sield Effect Transistor
Getting anxious waiting for files now.
I've got a day on the schedule this week as a "workshop day" where I'll be updating this project and should FINALLY be able to update the files and release them. So this time next week they should be available. Not enough hours in the day sadly.
Sorry it took me so long, files are NOW AVAILABLE: social.thangs.com/m/621414
I'd like to see this have the dual material option like it originally did.
Big fan
Much appreciated!
Great Vid! Do the Makerbot cupcake next!
Not to downplay the legitimacy of your hard work and talent by comparing you to someone else, but you’re like the Josh Yeo of the 3D printing community.
I mean I’ll consider it a compliment. Wish I had the time to polish my content that much. Or the space to hang an Orbit 😂
Haha...I was one of the first people to meet you at ERRF and ask about this machine when you were setting up the table. Really brilliant mod. Are you releasing the designs ?
I will be but I need to do a final revision of them before I do. I’ll post a comment update when I get the files released.
@@MandicReally thank you...I have an experimental printer from many years ago that is basically a replicator built with aluminum extrusions. It's disassembled and sitting in a box. Your conversion has motivated me to see if I can convert it to corexy as well. Hope to use some of your parts.
@@whatisyouremailid I'm gonna do the same
please do fusion tutorials, especially how you created that drill jig
I'm looking to get back to doing tutorial stuff like that very soon, watch out for more! You can also now download the files for this project to see them in Fusion for yourself: t.co/fpfPaSrTaJ
Would love to see some tutorials might be able use some of your techniques for myself
i know this video is 2 years old but i was wondering if you could share where i could get the firmware to add klipper to one of these machines please
hmm... I wish I could make one like that one either in wood or plastic. Oh. I just remember there are lot of clones even old ultimaker. Now where do I find the old box? Ebay.
By MOFSET do you mean MOSFET? LOL
Yep, one of those mispronounciations I can’t seem to break. Same as I say in this video “FysTEC” when the companies name is “FysETC”. 🤷🏻
I’m currently designing a corexy mod for a 2012 printer. What issues are you having?
Dragging out my creator pro now....klipper here it comes ..
I had changed the board on my FFCP 2012 version. I would say its quite worth the change. but I had to re crimp all the wires and play around to get the Heated bed to work. you would need to change out the hotend thermistors too as the OG ones wont be recognized by klipper. Currently im slowly slugging through on the Core XY mod.
Hey bud when will you be releasing the files for this bulld?
Later this week when I finally get a moment to breath. I wanted to rebuild the machine with the updated parts before I released them but there is simply no time for that. The parts are fully functional, I just haven't confirmed the fixes for some of the issues I mentioned yet. I'll update the description and pin a comment when they go up. And they will be posted here: thangs.com/mandicreally
@@MandicReally thanks bud. Can't wait
FINALLY Got the files released: social.thangs.com/m/621414
after using the dropeffect xg hotend do you recommend it, btw really cool project
Sorry I never got around to answering this. I like the XG. It is easy to mount, easy to service, and compact. That said, I'm not sure the flowrate is as high as I'd like. It is smaller and ligther than a Dragon High Flow hotend and I think it flows similarly to that, but maybe slightly lower. I have to test it further to find out for sure. So, if you need small and lightweight, it is great. If you want the highest flow you can get? I'm not sure it is the right call.
@@MandicReally ok thx for answering me, I already got a triangle lab tr tchc hotend it has a ceramic heater core 50w it’s uses v6 nozzle same height as stock Ender hotend 3 and 5. I bought this one for around 30 dollars also heats up in less than a minute to 240°c. It’s great you really should look into theire chc hotend line really good and affordable
Where did you find the MakerBot Replicator step files?
Great channel btw. 👍
It was a semi-broken Solidworks assembly that I couldn’t locate again when I went to fill out the description of this video. I’ll see if I can locate it or maybe release the repaired STEP file. The original assembly was missing some components and I had to trick it into working.
@@MandicReally Ok I´ll wait patiently for the F360 files to be released. 🤩
FINALLY Got the design files for my release of ReAniMaker available: social.thangs.com/m/621414
And I relocated where the SolidWorks files for the MakerBot were: www.thingiverse.com/thing:18813
@@MandicReally New project time! 👏🏼 Thank you for your time and effort in this project.
@@crazytrutas I just decided to release the original MakerBot Replicator files as well. So if you still want those you can find them here: social.thangs.com/m/621863
How much did it cost to do this?
Time was the greatest investment. As for filament, I had to print many prototypes so I can’t say how much of that would be required either. Most of the parts were provided by brands, so I don’t really have a total unfortunately. Realistically it could be built in a number of different ways with differing values. A cheaper board, power supply, and hotend could be used.
@@MandicReally Do you think the frame does a good job?
@@Brocknoviatch the frame does a surprisingly good job. It resonates a lot so it is noisier than other machines, but it stays pretty rigid. I just posted a video today where I printed a 16:33 Benchy on it and it turned out surprisingly well.
🔝🔝
iv got all parts to one of them i ripped to bits
