  • How to build a Trellis Fence out of Reclaimed Wood and Wire Mesh! Ahhh Spring…who doesn’t love it! It’s the season of new growth and a great time to get out into the garden and tackle some of those jobs that you’ve been putting off over the winter and with that in mind, it was time to get my hands dirty and build that Trellis Fence that has been begging to be built. You’ve heard of the Great Wall of China??...well this is going to be the Great Trellis Fence of Australia!! 🇦🇺🇦🇺
The great thing about a Trellis or Lattice Fence is that they add another interesting visual concept to your garden at the same time offering you a level of privacy from your prying neighbours….let’s face it, who doesn’t love a spot of nude gardening from time to time 😁
Unlike a lot of other Trellis fences that are simply screwed or nailed to an existing fence, l’ve decided to go for a freestanding version made from reclaimed hardwood ceiling joists and wire mesh supported by High Wind Post Brackets.
Hope you can check it out and l’d love to hear your feedback! Cheers.:-)

G'day Stacey...glad you like the trellis. We planted Star Jasmine and a couple of Mandevilleas. All going well except for one disaster!! The Mandevillea took off like a rocket and was looking fantastic. Grew to top of the trellis and beyond and then for some reason....one of them died!! Can't work out why, however l have a suspicion that the ground was too wet which the Mandevillea doesn't like. Oh well, hopefully the others dont succumb the same fate 🤞🤞

The australian Harrison Ford,,,,,good videos! I just built a trellis, I used a 6 foot chain link fence which I believe is galvinized steel, do you think it is safe for garden use and will not leech anything bad into the soil? Thanks again!!!

Thanks mate 👍On the other side of that fence is a laneway so the neighbours complaining wasn't an issue. If you're interested in how it looks now once it has been planted out, check out the following link. If you scroll right down to the end you can see the planting. You'll also notice in the Before and After photos that l added planter boxes between the posts. 👍😁 www.workshop.bunnings.com.au/t5/Featured-Projects/Hardwood-and-mesh-trellis-with-planter-boxes/tac-p/185673#M2851

Can you provide a material list and cut sizes? I don't have all of the equipment to saw the pieces. I can find a lumber yard to cut the wood and then I can screw, staple and assemble it. My trellis would be 8 feet high by 16 feet wide.

G'day. You could hire a laser level which would do the job very easily or you could use a water level. Do a quick search on CZcams to find out how to use a water level. Good luck 👍👍

About bloody time too! Where have you been? Just kidding, cheers for the timely video, I was thinking about building this very thing for privacy/noise reduction from neighbours.& you've given me some ideas to get started. Reinforcement mesh & hardwood is a better look than those horrible prefab things & stands up much better to our climate. I might even get it up & have some Nelly Kelly passion fruit vines growing before the summer party season starts :) BTW, Emperor Qin's name is pronounced "chin", he's the guy that China was named after.
