    Hi Martin,
    This is awesome such a great job. Have you got any measurements so I can do this myself? I have a Yeti 1.2 SEL Outdoor DSG and need that extra space.

    I'am interested how you use your converted car during the trip in real time; how it works when you find place to park a car, cooking a meal, then cleaning dishes; maybe then you go hiking, reorganize equipment, changing clothes, use light when the sun goes down etc. Then we can understand more about space in that kind usage of car, about spend of water etc. There is big amount content like you showed, but much more interesting is usage converted car in real trip. I hope you will show something like that :) peace

      Have absolutely gathered enough experience to tell you about that! I will see if I can come to with some ideas for that. I actually just redid some of the camper so I'm going to cover that first, but how I'm using it is definitely something interesting!

    Here are the measurements of the platform!

    The structure underneath is pretty easy, so no measurements for that, only the top plywood.
    Feel free to ask any questions :)

      @@LucaMaccagni Haha yes I missed that part, the total length is 185cm so from that you should be able to calculate it :)

    You are very luck to have a low floor model - I have a spare wheel and this raises the original boot floor to roughly where yours is now - so I wouldn’t have any storage underneath. I want to spend maybe 5 or 6 days sleeping in mine next year when I do a quick tour of the UK mainland so I could get away with less storage. With a full sunroof yours is probably a L&K model.

    • @MartinKaller
      @MartinKaller  Před 3 lety +1

      I think you're are able to remove the low floor and spare if you want more space. I just spent 8 days in mine on a trip in northern Sweden :)

    • @tashunka8123
      @tashunka8123 Před 2 lety

      Where there is a will, there is way :).
      I don't have a spare wheel in my "Yotel" but wanted to take one along ... if you slit a tyre or damage a rim, the shaving foam that replaces the spare wheel won't be much good. The spare wheel more or less raises the height of the boot floor to that of the folded down rear seats. The passenger front seat is as far up and forward as it will go. Behind passenger front seat = in front of folded rear seats is a plastering bucket 🪣 , bought because it has the right hight. On top of that bucket is a £3 Plastic toilet seat. No guesses here what this is but that particular assembly also serves to bridge the space between passenger front seat and folded rear seats. On top of it all is big old fashioned single airbed/airmatress and it works just fine. Total cost of conversion: £40 :):):)

      @rowan7658 Před 2 lety

      @@tashunka8123 I have the same model and I have just used storage boxes to fill the voids to the correct height to get the floor level. No wooden floor needed and no carpentry whatsoever. I have used thick yoga mats cut to fit and then put a sleeping mat on top. I use another box with a cutting board fitted on to the top as my “kitchen” .Less is more as far as I am concerned. Your bucket idea is great so I may give that a go.

    Den blir inte för kort? Jag är typ 1.77. Funderar på en Skoda octavia, yeti eller Caddy life :)

    • @MartinKaller
      @MartinKaller  Před 3 lety

      Jag är 1.85 och längden har inte varit något problem, fungerat ganska bra.
      Fördelen med yetin är att du enkelt kan få båda bil och camper, tittade med på Caddy men kände att jag ändå att jag behövde en "vanlig bil", hade gärna satsat på en sådan längre fram!
      Bränsleförbrukning på octavian är ju trevlig, men om man ska bo i den så skulle jag rekomendera lite mer höjd inuti, Yetins höjd är precis så jag kan sitta upp bekvämt i sängen jag byggt.
      Största problemet jag haft med Yetin är hur man måste vara ute för allting, matlagning, komma åt packning. Om man tar in på en camping, eller hittar en fin gräsplätt är det ingen fara, men när man står på en grus parkering vid ett naturreservat med camping förbjuden är det lite träligt, vilket är majoriteten av dom ställerna jag stannar på. Där hade ju en caddy suttit riktigt fint att kunna göra lite mer i bilen.

    Hi Martin. Great stuff thanks. I wanted to ask if with me being 5'9' (183cm)' tall, would the car be long enough for sleeping in next to my shorter partner?
    Also, I'm undecided between the 1.2petrol or 2.0TDI. which one would you recommend? Thanks

    • @MartinKaller
      @MartinKaller  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes that would work!
      I have 2.0 TDI and it's been fantastic, I would recommend that if you're looking at higher milage yeti's since they're incredibly durable. Mine is at 180 000 kms. 1.2 is probably way more economical.
      Sadly I pay about 400 euro per year in tax and diesel is now at 2 euro a liter in Sweden, so it's expensive, but again I hope the reliability of the 2.0 TDI will make up for it.
      Also, I think most 1.2 petrols come in 2wd? Where's all 2.0 TDI comes in AWD. The haldex gen 4 really is fantastic, which is fitted to the preface lift Yeti. The newer models have haldex gen 5 which I personally don't think is as good. Gen 5 is electronically controlled while gen 4 is hydrolic, as soon as the pressure starts letting go the rear axel is engaged instantly. Gen 5 has to detect tire grip loss and then engage electric pump, which isn't as fast.
      The pros of gen 5 is that it is way lighter and since it's electronically controlled the car can choose to engage it whenever it wants.

      @@MartinKaller Thanks a lot for your reply, funnily enough car tax in the UK on a Diesel is a lot cheaper than petrol. I read the life expectancy of the 1.2tsi is about 225,000 KM. I guess a diesel can last a lot longer than that.
