- After agreement from the rest of my family I'm uploading this personal family memorial to my Grandfather.
The song is by The Fureys (Finbar included) and is from the their Essential's album.

My father loved this song. He passed away 11/28/20. He battled 22 months of pancreatic cancer. He wasn’t ready to die but his body couldn’t take anymore. I flew home thanksgiving up to Boston and I spent the day with him. He knew he was going to pass he cried amd I never seen him cry. I can still feel his lips and the tears from his eyes when I said my goodbye. He passed Two days later. I am absolutely devastated and never felt this much pain. A piece of me died with him. We will spread his ashes in Ireland. I love you dad I miss you so much.
Ive not seen my dad for 5 months, after this I have vowed to see him every week, thank you so much. My heart goes out to you and your family xx

Word for word this song tell the story of my dad, He taught me everything I know and will be forever in his dept. The 1 regret I have is I never stayed with him the day he died as my mam asked me to give him a rest in the hospice the day i took him in and he died later that evening .this haunts me 12 years later as i know he died on his own with no family near . Miss you so much Dad.xxxx
My old man died last Jan right beside me, sudden just as he wanted. the things he said ill never forget, he usually talked but for some reason i remember every word that night - im in bits! I miss him my auld man
Played this at my grandfathers funeral when i was 10 years old. My respect goes to you grandfather.

My dad died late 2005. I put 2 songs onto a cd to play at his funeral mass. This song and a recording of my dad singing at my wedding. At the mass we played the cd. My dads voice singing blasted all over the chapel, but the Fureys song wouldn't play, no matter how many times we tried. He obviously wanted to bring down the curtain on his life. And yes, the Fureys song played perfectly after the mass was over.
It's been this day, 5 years back that I lost my Father. It still feels like yesterday. Wish He was around to see all what's changed. There was, is and will never be another one like Him. I hope He forgives me for all the arguments and misunderstandings we had. Miss His towering presence and pray that He continues guiding me throughout my life. Miss you Dad forever from your grieving son.

i lost my own father on this day 10 years ago, he died on his birthday at the age of 73, i still miss him to this day but as your song puts so beautifully i thank him for all that he thought me and i hope i can teach my own kids the real things that are important in life, like taken a walk at sun rise with someone you love or going to the river to fish these are the real things that matter the memories that last a life time, RIP DAD and thank you, my love always Dave...x
lovely thought GC to dedicate this wonderful song of PC's to your Grandfather (RIP). I listen to The Fureys The Old Man often having lost my own father in the summer of 1983, just one week after my 11th birthday. My brothers also love this song. Keep making those videos!! thanks :)

Fab song miss him every day
oh man. My father is dying of cancer as i type. Jesus the words of this song are so true to my old man it's unreal apart from the words unsaid.... Ive said everything I needed to say and him to me at least I have that....im actually crying like a baby now.....im not ready for whats coming.

Thank you for the comment. He is sorely missed everyday, but especially around my birthday (which is a week after he passed over).
Please accept my best wishes to you and your family over the loss of your grandfathers.
Losing a grandparent is never easy... But to have this played at a funeral makes the passing just that much more bearable, in my mind.

@reilly1926 ..its very common for a husband and wife to die within quick succession. My Mum and Dad died within 8 weeks of each other in 2004. There are Groups set up on the Internet for Family in circumstances such as these. A great wee Song, I have heard, so many Times in irish Pubs....
My dad died in 2003.RIP.
Lovely old song, lost my da 1991 still think about the old times, used to love going to my old house, I'd go back to visit da twice a week, he was supposed to cut the grass, we were poor, so it wasn't a lawn, it was cut the grass twice a week but I used to do it for my da, it didn't matter how often we done it, because as said before it wasn't a fuckin lawn, it was cut the grass.

Approaching the 8th anniversary I feel a tremendous amount of sadness and loss and there will be times over the coming days when all I will do is just sit in a chair and cry.
I still find it difficult to listen to this song (or even think about it) without either welling up at the thoughts of the funeral, or the memories I have of him.
