Pete is so articulate, love his take on things and his straightforward attitude. It doesn't seem like he is trying to spin things for some career agenda, as so many do who worry about their albums going 20x platinum (granted, Pete doesn't have an album to worry about!). It just struck me that in those days, theaters were being equipped with quad sound just for Tommy (theaters did get special equipment sometimes for films, not just Tommy). That would only happen for Marvel superhero movies now, if ever. But we are at the bottom of the funnel in music and musical arts, now, so none of this will happen again in the near future (for the last 40 yrs, I've been waiting for the successor to the 60's, in music, except that it would naturally be evolved from that, of course (the Next Big Thing), and as original as the 60s were (although they had similarities to the 20s, and other periods like them, the music was very new). We desperately need people like Pete at the forefront of a new direction for music, and media arts in general. His brilliance was working within the popular music framework, but pushing the walls out a bit (Tommy, Lifehouse, Quadrophenia), yet he avoided the often boring indulgences of prog rock (love it as I do) and kept to concise songs which, taken on their own, could be any radio hit anywhere. The Who were quite a balancing act, yet he kept them en pointe and they became much more than yet another Fab 4 pop band.

I like Pete's comments about Ken Russell's Tommy film. Seems to me that Pete learnt something from Ken's adaptation of Tommy. I love Ken Russell's Tommy film, it makes simplicity from a complex story. After all, Pete & Ken are both geniuses. Interesting to hear Pete's view.

6:35 I totally relate to that. It happened to me when I watched Quad. and I watched it few times in a row. I put myself in the story, I made MY SENSE of the movie.

Ken Russell is an acquired taste visual metaphor etc. To acquire the taste you only need to see The Devils and then you will be ready for Tommy. If I could change anything about history I would have Bunuelle in to direct it though.

Pete's gone the full 180! Now it's interviews and no new music! Sadly as it turns out, a much better use of his time! Sells way more concert tickets!
