  • MG ZS EV review - In this in-depth review I take a look at what could possibly be the best value EV on the market. It was the first time I had spent any time with an electric car and it's safe to say I was a big fan! Check out my review of the petrol car here - • MG ZS Review - The Bes...

      Can't you just plug it in with a 3-pin UK 240 volt 13 amp plug? We have an EV and a portable higher amp charger but since our daily mileage is so low and the car is always home, we just charge on 110 volts US using the supplied "trickle charger" / "granny cable". Many people say you must get a charger but it really all depends on your needs.

    There is a new software up date for the MG (no3) called the 'comfort update' it changes the 'bongs' to a single quiet 'blunk' noise, puts temp gauge in the info screen plus a constant how many miles remaining, no triple horn blast when you have left your keys in the car and some other bits and pieces. Tesla Bjorn has just done a test with it applied. I have mine booked in for the 30th June. I have had the MG since late Nov last year (3800mls) and I still very happy with it, I have had no problems.

    ZS V boot is actually 470ltr. So bigger than the ZS Petrol, and waaaay bigger than the EV Competition.
    Best kept secrets are it accelerates a bit quicker than its book 0-60 and its top speed is a good bit higher than its advertised limited speed. ;)
    Sport mode is wheel spin monster.
    The creak is the bottom of windscreen on outside, if its creaking then it can be lubricated or removed and refitted. Not all cars do it.
    The triple beep is because you've left the key in the car.
    Glad you agree as cheapie EVs go the ZS is a good one. I personally have switched up from a cheap Zoe which I liked and enjoyed but I needed more space and range so the MG meets my needs well.

    • @BleeCarswell
      @BleeCarswell  Před 4 lety

      I have to admit that I didn't push to see the true top speed haha. I take it you're enjoying the ZS then! Other than space how does it compare to the Zoe?

    • @sandyritchie287
      @sandyritchie287 Před 4 lety +2

      @@BleeCarswell hardly used it as to be expected in lockdown.
      Obviously it's a much bigger car and my Zoe was the older 22kWh model. Hard not to compare though as its my last car compared to my new car.
      While the new Zoe will go further it still technically doesn't have roof load (although you can fit bars at your own risk) MG takes 75kg so great for family with bikes. Boot is massive compared to Zoe, and to be fair Zoe had a good sized boot.
      Drives well too, not as quick to turn in as Zoe on backroads, but better on dual carriageway and motorway.
      As a family sized car to replace my commuter car I'm happy with it. I had a lot of good long trips in Zoe I don't doubt the MG will be the same.
      Biggest win is no longer having to deal with RCI. Who even after trading car in they are still chasing me for battery hire because the dealer forgot to sign their copy of battery lease agreement. RCI has tainted my wish to own a Renault again. 🤷‍♂️

    Good review. I bought an MG ZS EV in July 2020 on the strength of this review amongst others. I had a minor accident in September 2020. It is now February 2021 and my car will not be repaired for another 2 months. DO NOT TOUCH MG WITH A BARGE POLE.

    Newbie question: is it good to have a charging port in the front grille like that? Can a parking lot shunt to the front damage and disable it easily? I know others have it like that eg. Nissan Leaf...

    Prices start at , yes add metallic paint , better interior and tech etc if the battery was bigger would be a game changer . Etiquette you should not be leaving your car at a fast charger for any significant length of time

    My ZS EV only bongs twice when I start the car and that's it.......I can only assume you had an early press car and they have done something to change it since. Mine's a 2020 model and I don't seem to have a problem.

      @@BleeCarswell You can turn nearly all the bongs off in the menu system leaving just 2 on start up and 2 to tell you you have turned off the lane keep assist. If you don't close the boot properly it will also beep the horn when you lock the car. there is an up date to come but recent events may have held this up. Thanks for a good review.

    Bongs all gone with Comfort 2 Software upgrade. Unfortunately MG UK have decreed that this is NOT a safety re-call and dealers charge anything from £90.00 to £300.00.

    Everything is good except the stupid charging port placement. It's far too low! Older people in particular will not want to have to bend down just to plug it in. Why didn't they make the cover drop down instead of up -- then it would be easier to see. What were they thinking?

    the charge door is very noisy when you were closing it
    it is not very well designed that you have to crouch down to see the ports them self.
    in cruise control it uses brakes not regen .
    and i have not seen anything about possible rust a item which has a poll on a mg owners site has listed
    the range / efficiency is quiet low vs other ev's and can be beaten by a electric van

    • @BleeCarswell
      @BleeCarswell  Před 3 lety

      The ports could be better placed but it didn't seem like to much of an issue to be honest. The range is an interesting one but for most around town/commute journeys it should be fine. It goes without saying that if you do longer trips then this probs aint the car for you! Thanks for watching!
