Actually I m working in crude oil gc. People just think oil means petrol or diesel but that crude oil produce more then 30 products include petro chamical produces also indirect more then 1000 products. Crude oil not means only petrol or diesel

Hydrogen fuel vehicles are costly for now, hope they will completely replace EV and fossil fuel vehicles in future.

Good to see the result of Green Hydrogen Project. In Assam, India Green Hydrogen powered buses started their trial drive.
Forget about Green Hydrogen, Any kind of Hydrogen is not cost-effective any time soon (at least for the next 30 years). But "Grey/Blue/Green Hydrogen" is a great strategy to keep burning fossil fuels and collect Taxes, just like they did with 'Recyclable Plastic'
The biggest impediment in implementing Hydrogen is cost economy, in order to produce cheap green hydrogen we need to harness more renewable energy on better efficient way, current solar panels are on an average producing 20 percent efficiency only, we need to achieve atleast 50 percent efficiency for making in as a viable option, otherwise price parity can't be achieved and transition can't be possible to grassroot levels

In current situation it is though to use green H2, but if there are proper safety measures are put in place and the mobility means uses in vehicle needs to be subsidies so that in initial cases the car or commercial vehicle manufacturers can bring there costs to make vehicle at an affordable price. There are lots of scientists would be working on H2 so that it can minimize the risk .

I strongly believe that alternative fuel that can replace petrol is green hydrogen. But still, a lot of R&D needs to be done to make it accessible to the masses.

Green hydrogen is a smoke screen created by fossil fuel industry to prolong their survival. Green hydrogen can never is produced cheaper than from fossil fuel like natural gas, known as grey hydrogen. They provide huge number of applications for hydrogen, which are theoretically possible, but can never happen due to high cost, safety issues and logistics.
If hydrogen can used a fuel for passenger cars and light vehicles, it would have already happened. Hydrogen fuel cars are expensive, require hydrogen fueling stations ( which are expensive) and numerous safety issues. These cars are twice as expensive as petrol cars and 4-5 times expensive to maintain than EVs. Using electricity from renewable energy to make hydrogen and use that to generate electricity using fuel cells is extremely inefficient. If you supply 10kwh of electricity, you will get only less than 4kwh of electricity from fuel cell. If you store than electricity, you can get 9 to 9.5 kWh for use. What a waste.
Some practical potential feasible applications of hydrogen in fertilizer, to some extent in cement and steel, in aviation once the safety is established.
A hydrogen manufacturing plant in California exploded and people could feel that a mile away. There has been many issues of fueling in hydrogen stations as they lose pressure after two refueling and customers had to wait 15-20 mins before they can start refueling.
Lithium batteries are getting cheaper day by day. Currently the production cost of Lithium Iron batteries are about $80/kwh. They expect that to go to $28 by 2028. When that happens, it will completely shut down hydrogen. Utility level battery storage is happening in a huge scale and close 100 when utility storage will be implemented this year. With VPP, virtual power plants, happening now and with V2G, vehicle to grid, technology coming up, EVs can be used as transportation and energy use. This will enable more adoption of solar and wind for grid energy.
The government is planning to spend 25,000 cr about 30 billion USD for Green hydrogen. If India can get 30Gwh of battery storage, that will be enough to stabilize the Electric grid in India. These utility scale batteries last for 25 years, does load stabilization, frequency control, efficient usage of electricity without wasting, get rid of all voltage stabilizer for all devices.
This 30Gwh batteries will cost about 12 billion USD, but if India builds assembles these batteries and develop their own software, this price will come down may be 40%.

I believe it is a crazy idea for India to pursue hydrogen. From an initial look, many Indians will think that since India does not have enough oil, hydrogen can replace its dependence on foreign oil. But you need to look at it properly. I am an Indian Malaysian Professor in Electrical Engineering. I have studied hydrogen for some time and I believe this is the wrong step. First listen to Elon Musk on this subject. Why? Who has accomplished what he has accomplished? Even the US. Presidents made statements that nobody has done what he has. Of course there are many sites that claim he is bad just as only the fruit laden trees will get thrown with stones. Firstly, the hydrogen tank in a hydrogen fueled car is at 100 atmospheres (atm). We live in 1 atm, if it explodes in a car crash imagine the pressure exiting from it. Then gasses are rated according to their reactivity. Hydrogen is one of the most reactive gasses and placed at a very high pressure. Gasses burn with different colors according to their reactivity with the low reactivity burning with a yellow flame, the higher reactivity burns with a blue flame, even higher reactivity gas burns with a colorless flame, but hydrogen is so reactive that it burns with an ultraviolet flame. Hydrogen is the smallest atom in the universe so it will leak out of most containers more than any other gas. In one setup in my home city, the very expensive container that holds the 700 atm hydrogen has a capacity of 1200kg. 50kg leaks out per day. It takes 1 MW to make 20 kg of hydrogen via electrolysis. The USA average price per unit (1 kWh) of electricity is $0.23, therefore 1MW will cost $230. And this leak which will happen continuously out of the 1200kg will cost $575 per day. The per year cost will be $575 X 365 days/year = $209,875. Then you need tankers that can take 700 atm to hold hydrogen to bring it around the country. Imagine the explosion and loss of life if one of those tankers has an accident? And if a hydrogen fuel station explodes. A hydrogen fuel cell bus exploded in California on July 18 2023. And hydrogen gas leaked at a hydrogen station in Norway on June 11 2019.
The better option is to go for electric cars. I know there are problems with electric cars in India.. Fire issues can be addressed by placing two normally open contactors at the positive and negative side of each battery cell. Some AI can be used to bypass a faulty cell with a third contactor for each battery cell. AI can be used to get as many 10 cells (for example) in series from various battery cells in the battery compartment. Later if hydrogen actually improves, you can just power the electric power station with it. To put a problematic hydrogen in each car today is a very bad idea, just power the power station with hydrogen or whatever power source that comes up in the future. That way if a new power source is discovered, you just need to change the power station and not all cars and all the infrastructure built for the cars.

If you are generating hydrogen using electricity. It will always be costly and less efficient than using that electricity directly in an electric vehicle. Think before you make big claims. Also it’s much less safe being explosive

Hydrogen is too inefficient as a fuel. Ev is the future. First you make Hydrogen, then you pump it in your car. Hydrogen gets converted into electcity and charges the battery. Battery gives power to motor. Very very inefficient process. Efficiency is near to 30% only. While ev efficiency is 80 to 90%. Hydrogen is pure waste of energy.

I think this fascination of the world with "Green" Hydrogen will end up costing us badly.
It appears to be a lose-lose game. You need a lot of expensive energy (electricity & water) to create more expensive energy. Why do it? Who will ultimately pay for this nonsense?
"Grey" Hydrogen is a far better option. Rest of the money should be directed towards building safer storage and transport capabilities.
