DIY Wood Signs Mod Podge Transfer

  • Transfer text onto painted wood with Mod Podge and inkjet (basic) printer.
    I find this works great for me, but some people may find it little tricky, I love to experiment and try new things, I hope this works as well for you as it does for me.

    Thank you. I watched another woman do this with a laser jet, but she didn’t think it would work for an inkjet printer, so I am so happy you showed how to do it with an ink jet printer.

    Thank you for this video. I see so many signs done with a Cricut machine & quite frankly did not want to put the money into buying that machine. This is a great alternative & so much more affordable.

    I think I made a boo-boo on my project. I used the mod podge on my wood surface. I FORGOT to put some on my paper! I just placed my paper directly on top of the mod podge on my wood surface! Ugh! Will it still transfer to the wood even though I forgot to put some on the paper itself? Ugh! I wasnt thinking and got distracted!

      Yes it really should if you smoothed it out super well so every bit of paper has modpodge on it, good luck, let me know how it goes ❤️

    I was wondering how do you actually make the Designs/Texts, what program do you use for it if I may ask?

      Hi, I use photoshop as that’s just what I use for everything, but you could use anything like word, cut them out and then piece them together on the wood, hope that helps

      Search for: Flip text for a mirror image in Word.
      It's available if you use a text box then Right click > format shape> 3d rotation> type 180 in the X axis box>click OK.

    Great tutorial, I tried this but my print came off with the paper....do you know what would have caused this?

      Thanks. Ah 🤔 did you leave it to dry over night? Or you could have been rubbing too hard or over wetting the paper. Sorry it didn’t work this time, maybe it would another time, I love the technique and find with patience it works well ❤️

    Would a glossy type of paper transfer to the wood?

      i find it pretty hard to print on something so thin, even though taped on another sheet

    Do you recommend lighter colored wood for these projects? I have a darker wood...so if I painted it white would the black text still show even though the wood is darker?

      On plain wood then yes it works better on light wood, but sure give it a white coat and I think it’ll be great 😊

      @@RedRockingBird turned out fine for my first time! I watched so many videos about how to do this and one of them suggested using a soft toothbrush to remove the wet paper. It is easier than using fingers but even the soft bristles removed some of the ink. I will be making another one tonight, using my fingers. Thank you for following up! It means a lot.

    Hi, I would love to do one of these. I tried on my printer and the ink started smearing right away. What kind of ink do you have in your printer. Also, where do you find your program to print in reverse? Thank you so much!

      Mine is an inkjet , make sure the brush is not wet with water and your surface is dry. Edit flip horizontal, I use photoshop, all are different sorry. Maybe try the trace and paint method: czcams.com/video/b6WlGfVokUI/video.html

      I spray many of my projects with aerosol hair spray before I start brushing over it.

      You flip them horizontal, many aps will let you do this, I use photoshop: edit, transform, flip horizontal.

      You can create your own sayings in Word - just put the text into a text box and then right click on the text box, go into Format Shape and go down to 3-D Rotation and change the X Rotation to 180 - it flips the text.

      Thank you. Cannon inkjet. Any app that you can design on and then flip in reverse, there are many apps out there for free, I use photoshop though

    Thank you for sharing that. It was beautifully done! I have what may sound like a goofy question (I’m brand new to this.) Is it possible to reverse the colors somehow? I’d like my finished sign to be a distressed looking teal with white lettering, but I can’t figure out how to make that work with this process. What would you suggest?

    This only works with a laser printer, y'all! Make sure your copy guy prints your letters on a laser printer! Otherwise all your ink will blur and turn our bad !

    Can you use the 2/3rd pva 1 third water mix for this.? Mod podge so expensive. I'm loving your tuturiols. Started air dry clay today. Going to need bit practice 😂

      Hi, you can try it with PVA, although i haven't, but i'd use it neat not diluted, but why don't you try it on a scrap piece of wood, there are so many PVA's that some might work and some might not. I got my last Mod podge on offer in hobby craft. Glad you're trying the clay too, thanks for watching.
