Just so you know, it's not lightning that you hear it's the thunder that roars through the clouds after the lightning strikes. Thunder is the result of super heated air expanding into the cooler air around it.
I always thought it was the after effect of that expansion, i.e. cold air rushing back to fill the vacuum caused by the expansion. Thanks for putting me right.
As the heated air expands after lightning in the form of thunder, the pressure drops, the air cools and it contracts quickly, The result is the loud booming burst of noise sent in every direction.
I have an intense fear of thunder....yeah, I know, totally irrational. I love these videos because I'm trying to cure myself by cranking the sound and doing other things....this one was awesome! Thanks for posting!
I have the same fear. Ive been terrified since i was a child. It makes no sense but these vids help alot. I also have storm audio that i leave playing while i sleep. So glad someone else has the same phobia. Best of luck to u :)
I have no fear of thunder. But I do have a nervousness of having several thousand amps of electricity shoved through my body. So yeah, I am very respectful of thunderstorms.
I used to be the same way. I grew up in California, and for us, thunder and lightning were rare events. Once I got married, we moved to Virginia, and I got over my fear really quick! Now I enjoy most of the things I used to be afraid. of. Still afraid of heights, though! I'll never get over that one.
I love chasing storms for lightning photography, and what he is experiencing is a lightening barrage ahead of a severe storm! He hints at going out in the rain but he’s smart enough he has no death wish and I most certainly won’t leave my vehicle with all the “positive CG” striking nearby! At one point lightening strikes and within 2-300th of a sec you hear the thunder and it actually makes the lights in his home turn on!!!! Usually it’s the other way around!!! Great video dude!!!! Wish I was there with my camera set all set up!!!!!
This video was a lot of fun to watch...how excited you got with all the close hits! Did you used to live in the Pacific Northwest or Alaska before? I've been around lightning my whole life. Lived in the southeast for 5 years, then in central Indiana for 16 years, and now in Tampa Bay for 11 years. I still get just as excited as you with each storm we get. I'm in Safety Harbor on the western shore of Tampa Bay, near Clearwater. We're right in the heart of Tampa Bay and this storm is a regular thing here during the summers. Your video is 4 years old, so you definitely know by now! The storms here are breathtaking. I'll NEVER ever leave. It's unfortunate that at the end of September, the storms shut off like a light switch and nothing happens for 8 months until June rolls back around. But I savor every evening in the summer. I have a bunch of storm videos too, haha.
Beautiful storm!!! Love those bolts. There's no such thing as sheet lightning, the bolts were behind you and you were just seeing the illumination from them. Each of those pops were definitely bolts hitting the ground rather close to you, just most likely on the other side of your house. Great storm! ❤
loved watching this storm!!! Also nice how all the big strikes have been replaced so they are easier to find on the time bar. also, random question - has anyone ever commented that you have the same eyes as brie larson?
Wow, that's super awesome! Talk about an adrenaline rush :D Gotta love thunderstorms. Too bad these are rare here in the Bay Area in California. Superb lightning/thunderstorm video!
Last night I almost fell out of my bed in shock, there was an absolutely huge thunderstorm (I swear it was exactly like a hurricane) and in the middle of the night the scariest lighting strike hit with the loudest thunder I have ever heard. When he said “that was the loudest lighting I ever heard” all I could say is “the one I heard was about 10x louder” it woke up everyone in my house and my dog kept barking in fear, in the morning I woke up and so many trees fell down :< and the weather forecast is still saying that it wasn’t a hurricane
I experienced a thunderstorm like this a couple summers ago in southeastern Massachusetts. We aren't known to have severe thunderstorms, but that particular day in July was very hot, humid and unstable and produced a massive storm much like this one.
Top stuff lol Could have watched this for a few hours. Did you end up moving to the new place with the high lightning activity ? I assume this was recorded during summer ? :) By the way your BBQ got a wash i see :)
Just experienced having a storm like that over my home. I was in total awe and recorded some of it to send to my kids in Texas. The sound of the thunder recorded is nothing close to how it sounds overhead. A few so loud and unexpected they made me jump/scream in fright and go back inside. Just for a minute though and then I was drawn back out to my porch to watch and listen to more.
I just moved to Palm Bay Fl 2yrs ago from the Oregon coast and my favorite thing about Florida is the Thunderstorms and the lightning in the clouds but I do miss home on the Oregon coast. But the weather in Fl is quite entertaining. Great video :)
Marcus, love the video. What a monster storm. Im up in Northern Michigan and we've had similar storms up here. 2 in the last 2 years. Both hit about the 2nd week in july each year.. I'll never forget. Almost exactly like what you just recorded. The 1st of the two hit us 2 years ago..just as noisy. The second last summer ...lot's of lightening....actually freaky blue lightening to be exact. Thank you for posting...I bet ya Storm chasers would get a kick out of your video.Crazy stuff
Nice video! I know what that's like man.. where I live the loudest lightning strikes you heard are normal for us. We're on a mountain top and when it storms we take cover. lol. Great job Marcus.. "Holy Shit"!! haha
Woww amazing footage! I would be running like hell to get inside! I can't believe you said you would be moving to Tampa of all places! I live in Tampa and sure there may be more lightning but the storms are wimpy and pass through in Like 5 minutes! I'm jealous of that crazy storm! Lol so cool
If the thunder is really loud and quickly follows the lightning, it's close. You can easily find out how close the storm is by counting from after you see the flash until you see the thunder. 5 seconds = 1 mile away. If you're counting and you don't hear the thunder, chances are the thunder is too far away to be heard.
spring is upon us in the midwest of the US. I'll have my SD card and camera ready for the storms that come through here. I love to get them on video too. I'm crazy
Pretty amazing lighting and thunder over there. Netherlands does not have like those. But still sometimes we get big ons now and then. I love it that marcus sometimes just films the nature. A little break from the games is good too.
what your hearing is thunder from CG lighting (cloud ground), if its that close from the lightning strike to the thunder its CLOSE!. Looks like there is a lot of CG lightning in this video. Awesome storm!!
3:10 If lightning and thunder is almost simultaneously happening, It's less than 100 yards away!, It's definitely on top of you if it happens more than once
I really enjoyed your video with how casual you are. Just a note, you hear thunder, not lightning. Yes, it looks like sheet lighting and the ones that produce the really loud thunder are closer to you and are likely positive bolts that are a lot hotter so produce louder, more slamming thunder.
A storm we had a couple weeks ago in SC was like that one. I bet you're enjoying the storms in Tampa now. Lol. That lake you talked about should help fuel storms. I didn't think Lake Greenwood was big enough to influence storm formation, but that storm we had proved otherwise. You could see storm after storm forming right over the water on radar. Unfortunately I couldn't stand outside like you did here. Apparently I put out a strong opposite charge, meaning lightning seems to be attracted to me. Been damn near struck numerous times.....close enough to feel the heat.
3:11 In a night with 30 C (86 F) room temperature in summer 2013 I had the big window of my bedroom wide open (A/C is not really a thing here in Germany). I saw weak weather lightning, but heard no thunder. According to the radar the thunderstorm was at least 30 km (19 mi) away and according to the forecast the thunderstorm should not come closer. I went to sleep and a few minutes later, without any warning, a lightning bolt like this one struck the antennas of the town hall tower right across the street. I fell out of bed and banged my head on the bed table and almost sh*t my pants 🤣 I flinched as well now and immediately had to remember 😂 Unfortunately, we rarely have strong thunderstorms here, I love it so much!
Down here in Alberta Canada we normally get these kinds of thunderstorms after a really hot day. Maybe not this bad, but close. We've had trees blown down by the wind several times.
Kinda off topic but does anyone else get the thunder that is really low frequency and just kinda rumbles everything and everything in your house shakes?
I love love love this video I've looked at lots of lighting and thuder storms but this is my favorite .I thing its a combination of the storm and you expressions .I live in ft laud fl and love our storms
😀😀3:30, I was just thinking that people may not understand yours or others responses but when you're in it, it's in the air, you can feel the atmosphere is, electric! When I visited the Black Forrest in Germany my first night not long after arriving there was an almighty storm and it felt so, so much closer than I'm used to. With one enormous crack my right arm flew out in this weird spasm, I had zero control over it! So back home I googled whether the Black Forrest emerged either from a volcano or as high as the land was it had been hit by a meteorite because when you're there it feels like you're in a bowl,..it was very beautiful and I'd recommend if you've the chance to and visit plus I love pine tree's, apparently they're Canadian pine tree's, we had a couple of pine tree's around our land in the country in the UK, as the guy who built the house originated from Toronto....
i thought sheet lightning is just the name of lightning without a bolt and that its just some lights that light up the clouds, in belgium we call that 'Weerlicht'. I didnt know that i was wrong.. or is it true?

Sonic boom
Thunder is the explosive expansion of the air around the strike being heated to temps around 30,000°C in an instant
I have an intense fear of thunder....yeah, I know, totally irrational. I love these videos because I'm trying to cure myself by cranking the sound and doing other things....this one was awesome! Thanks for posting!

I have no fear of thunder. But I do have a nervousness of having several thousand amps of electricity shoved through my body. So yeah, I am very respectful of thunderstorms.
Im feel exactly that you feel.
Same! absolutely terrified of it! every time I hear the word "thunder" or "storm", I freak out!
I used to be the same way. I grew up in California, and for us, thunder and lightning were rare events. Once I got married, we moved to Virginia, and I got over my fear really quick! Now I enjoy most of the things I used to be afraid. of. Still afraid of heights, though! I'll never get over that one.
I was outside in a forest during a storm like that for about an hour. Most terrifying experience of my life.
I bet
I love thunderstorms like this. They may be unsafe but still enjoyable to watch and listen to.
The thunder sounded like a huge thin metal crashing on the ground
I love thunderstorms
Omg at 3:11 I would have screamed and peed myself. And dude all you did was freeze and be like "hooooooly shit" LMAO awesome xD
Im 10 and that happened to me and all i did was cover my ears XD
Best storm I've ever seen! Scary, but fantastic at the same time. Loved the ongoing talking - funny and entertaining 👍

I think it was mostly a mixture of nerves and excitement that made him ramble on like that lol!
These kinds of storms are the best. 😍 We get ones like that here in the Midwest occasionally in spring and summer.
I've got to admit, this was a really good video. Glad you posted it. Thanks!
He Looks Like A Healthy Steve Jobs C:
lightning,,,the only thing that scares me and fascinates me at the same time,,,great video :D
One of Gods greatest creations love thunderstorms.
When I was at the beach. When the storm hit it shook the whole house knocked out power, and picked up the trash can moved it across the street
God is fake no offence
Lightning is created by climatic conditions, not a supposed god
okay thanks for letting me know
+griffon Rider oh dear... hilarious!!! 😂

3:11 : sounded like a shotgun, realy awesome storm. i wish we had that kind of intensity in Bruges. great video and also nice commentary.
loved watching this storm!!!
If you weren’t awake you’re definitely awake after that first crack of Thunder
Nice video! I loved your reaction to the very close lightning strike at 5:57! :D
Last night I almost fell out of my bed in shock, there was an absolutely huge thunderstorm (I swear it was exactly like a hurricane) and in the middle of the night the scariest lighting strike hit with the loudest thunder I have ever heard. Love videos like this!! We hardly ever get storms in Vegas and when we do it's nothing like this! Awesome video!!

Awesome video! And those rumbling sounds you hear are thunder but I did in fact hear lightning strike something at 3:10 or 3:11 LOL! 😳😳😳
Anyone say me the app that sir uses for weather update.. plz
Man....Very good stuff. I enjoyed this. I laughed al the way through. You would be a cool weatherman!
This is one of the best lightning videos I 've ever seen. The others where videos with positive CG's.⚡️⚡️⚡️👍

The big flashes and sounds are so Lound and cool, I somtimes get not Lound Thunder but maybe every 1 - 2 hrs I might get.
i love how your remarks escalated from "holy cow" to "holy shit" by 3.11!
Fantastic video! The south-eastern US is known for its thunderstorms....
Marcus` best video.
Great video and some intense lightning. Where is it filmed?
Did you end up moving to Tampa? If so, how are you enjoying "real" lightning?
Nice video! I know what that's like man.. where I live the loudest lightning strikes you heard are normal for us. We're on a mountain top and when it storms we take cover. lol. Great job Marcus.. "Holy Shit"!! haha

Wow amazing video and what a scary thunderstorm and that strike at 3:11 is epic and thank you for sharing 👍
My hearts going and I wasnt even there!!🤦♀️
Right? ;)
What's the reason for your move to Tampa?
Is it a better place for business opportunities or some other reason?
That's terrifying!! I was awakened out of my sleep due to lightening like that that sounded like there was an explosion outside!!
Pretty amazing lighting and thunder over there. Netherlands does not have like those. But still sometimes we get big ons now and then.
I love it that marcus sometimes just films the nature. A little break from the games is good too.
The volume and quality of the sound recording issssss brilliant! 👍
wicked. I want an audiotape of a storm like that to fall asleep to
what your hearing is thunder from CG lighting (cloud ground), if its that close from the lightning strike to the thunder its CLOSE!. Looks like there is a lot of CG lightning in this video. Awesome storm!!

I love storms like this gets your pulse going. The lightning is called CG cloud on ground !
Kinda off topic but does anyone else get the thunder that is really low frequency and just kinda rumbles everything and everything in your house shakes?
6:00 That Thunder Was Same Thunder When I Was In Bogor January 2nd
i do the same thing record lightning down here in Lakeland FL. i use my old VHS camcorder and ive got some tapes of some stroms like that one.
Great video, do you work for blizzard entertainment? Would explain how you can afford a nice house by a lake in Florida

Ah good times. I used to live in Tampa and I remember it storming almost every day.

the lightening at 6:05 is what I'm talking about. I woke up crying, and feeling like it was the end of the world!! 😓😓😓
No worries about the cussing. That's what my husband and I sound like during a good storm, lol!
I really enjoyed your video and commentary sub and thumbs up .
Great video. I felt I was there!
We had a storm like that in Sunderland U K in 2012. Scary stuff!
im moving to tampa in a month cant wait
Best storm on youtube of all videos ive seen.
U r wrong mate
3:11 sounds sweet now that what u call Thunder!! I wish I was there :)
The lightning was probably striking RIGHT to the side or behind your house (The huge ones where you couldn't see the bolts)
Lol the 3:11 strike actually turned on the light, you can see it if you look close enough
I almost got struck by lightning so lightning scares me but love the thunder the high winds !
It's Thunderstorming IRL right now...
And my brain is like "Let's watch that one video where the dude almost gets stuck by lightning like 3 times"
Stormycat77 xD.
fab love this scary stuff though we get this in ireland too to an extent at some stage winter or summer!
Here in Southern California we get storms like this every thousand years.
moving to Florida? Storms like that happen almost every few days during the summer. I used to live next to Orlando and it was crazy with storms.
3:11 That One Lightning Strike Was Kind Enough That It Even Turned The Porch Light On For You
So how's Tampa?
i thought sheet lightning is just the name of lightning without a bolt and that its just some lights that light up the clouds, in belgium we call that 'Weerlicht'. I didnt know that i was wrong.. or is it true?
This is a bit late, 6 yrs at least, but that there is positive lightning. Super huge boom thunder. Awesome
That was an incredible thunder and lightning show ❤❤❤❤❤😱😱😱😳 but we have quite a few here in Columbia South Carolina as well
if i were at 3:11 i would have literally crapped my pants
sj69 Same. The bolt must have struck less than a quarter of a mile away. I would have shat my pants so bad they would fly to Mars from the force
Stormycat77 XD
3:11 Nov 10 6:00
I had one strike 80 feet from me
Wow I'm quite surprised I ran across you on this side of CZcams :)
6:00 rip headphone users
3:11
Dalia Arredondo ya but im not dead (did not use headphones)
Dalia Arredondo thanks for the heads up. Then again, that just makes me want to turn up my volume, so idk weather to thank you or hate you.
Dalia Arredondo yea it killed me
Haha. My comment from a year ago😂
Sorry for my bad grammar!!
If I heard that loud thunder in real life, I'd be really scared!
