🇵🇹 - A freguesia da Ribeira Brava alberga um dos templos rurais mais antigos da Diocese do Funchal - e um dos mais visitados na Madeira.
Falamos da Igreja de São Bento, monumento religioso classificado como Imóvel de Interesse Público que deve mesmo conhecer aquando da sua passagem pela costa oeste da ilha.
Este templo foi edificado no século XVI, tendo origem numa pequena capela do século XV. Até aos dias de hoje, sofreu, evidentemente, múltiplas modificações.
Atualmente, é ainda possível identificar neste edifício diversas características manuelinas, maneiristas e barrocas.
Situado na Rua dos Camachos, a Igreja de São Bento alberga um acervo rico de pintura, escultura, ourivesaria e talha dourada dos séculos XVI e XVII. Trata-se de um dos conjuntos patrimoniais mais importantes da região, sendo que o seu tesouro foi mesmo exposto no Museu Real de Belas-Artes de Bruxelas.
No interior da Igreja de São Bento, destacam-se os lustres e a coleção de peças em prata dos séculos XVI e XVII.
Além disso, importa salientar a imagem de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, datada de 1520, e nos painéis com motivos bíblicos, ambos de produção flamenga.
A capela-mor é, por sua vez, dominada por um retábulo oitocentista de talha dourada e policromada.

This temple was built in the 16th century, having its origins in a small chapel from the 15th century. To this day, it has obviously undergone multiple modifications.
Currently, it is still possible to identify several Manueline, Mannerist and Baroque features in this building.
Located on Rua dos Camachos, the Church of São Bento houses a rich collection of paintings, sculptures, goldsmithing and gilded carvings from the 16th and 17th centuries.
It is one of the most important heritage sites in the region, and its treasure was even exhibited at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels.
Inside the Church of São Bento, the chandeliers and the collection of silver pieces from the 16th and 17th centuries stand out.
Furthermore, it is important to highlight the image of Our Lady of the Rosary, dated 1520, and the panels with biblical motifs, both of Flemish production.
The main chapel is, in turn, dominated by a 19th century altarpiece made of gilded and polychrome carvings.
