🇵🇹 - Reza a História que a primeira povoação da cidade do Funchal nasceu na área que é, atualmente, denominada “Zona Velha”.
O elevado valor patrimonial e arquitetónico desta parte da cidade, transformam-na num ponto de visita obrigatório que merece ser vivido durante o dia e durante a noite.
A Zona Velha do Funchal é conhecida pelas ruas estreitas, em calçada, embelezadas pelas típicas fachadas das casas antigas.
Com o projeto “Portas Pintadas”, este cenário urbano tornou-se ainda mais atrativo.
A comunidade artística foi convidada a fazer intervenções nas portas e fachadas dos edifícios, tornando este espaço numa galeria de arte ao ar livre.
No coração desta área histórica, situa-se a Capela do Corpo Santo, uma das poucas construções quatrocentistas que resiste até hoje.
Por sua vez, numa das ruas mais antigas do Funchal, a Rua de Santa Maria, podem ser encontrados diversos negócios locais tradicionais, como são exemplos a Fábrica de Chapéus e a Fábrica de Botas de Vilão.
Continuando pelo caminho empedrado desta rua, chega-se à Igreja do Socorro, de estilo barroco, e a um pequeno miradouro.
Porém, além de uma atenta visita diurna, a Zona Velha deve ser vivida também à noite: a sua conhecida animação noturna é uma atração incontornável na ilha.

Funchal Downtown is known for its narrow cobbled streets, embellished by the typical façades of old houses.
With the 'Portas Pintadas' (Painted Doors) project, this urban scenario has become even more attractive.
The artistic community was invited to make interventions on buildings' doors and façades, turning this area into an alfresco art gallery.
At the heart of this historic area we find the Corpo Santo Chapel, one of the few 15th-century buildings that survives to this day.
In turn, on one of the oldest streets in Funchal, Santa Maria Street, we can find several traditional local businesses, such as the 'Fábrica de Chapéus' and the 'Fábrica de Botas de Vilão'.
If you continue walking along this cobbled street, you will find the Baroque-style Socorro Church and a small viewpoint.
However, in addition to a detailed daytime visit, Funchal Downtown should also be experienced by night: its well-known nightlife is one of the island's major attractions.
