Shulk Mains Rise Up! That last game last stock couldn't of had ended in a more Shulk manner. Switch into 2 arts offstage, from defense to offense, to get the kill. Amazing.
This was the best moment of the night. Uncivil, Tremendo, Derek, Jared, Selah and I were screaming our heads off and seeing Kome get such a huge win like this felt unreal. Shulk broke

I mean, they were still correct to place him so highly based on potential. Marss literally had to play unlike he does against any other character to take a single game, and this is probably some of his most defensive play ever too. Shield art is busted af, you literally can't combo this character. Maybe you could learn matchup specific combos that work when he's in shield art, but then he could just switch OUT of shield art and get out of range. It doesn't take results to see that Shulk is suuuuuuuuuuper busted. Hopefully, results coming in will show people that he's not just top 15 but honestly probably top 5, maybe even better.

@@jijmotorp3079 I agree, other than Joker top 3 (he's more like top 5/10, he is just favoured by some great players) and Ganon (his recovery and frame data just can't cut him into top tier, probably not high tier either).

Ganon, as buffed as he got from 4 to ult, is still nowhere near high tier. He's a very good mid tier. His overall mobility, frame data and recovery holds him back. I like to call Ganon a "gatekeeper" character because he's a scrub stomper. Most high level players know how to play around Ganon's cheese while less experienced players get read like a book.

nice stuff to kome but i really want to break down just how good shield art is in the mu.
shulk can shield art during zss f smash, up smash, downsmash (to prevent followups after the stun), down b bury, side b, up b, neutral b, nair > down b kick, jab, fair, situationally dair, jab, and up air chains. all of zss kill options are either multihit or setups, meaning shulk can shield art everything. marss can only kill kome when shield art is regening!
Colonel Chester just FYI, shulk can only charge arts during hitstun. So during the stun from paralyzer and burys from flip kick he can’t immediately shield art.

He switched to shield so fast at times when buster or smash was active to stop the buff the other player had over him. That's part of Shulk that needs mastering to use him properly

I feel like a good Shulk is a good Joker counter. You can play so patiently and defensively which is how you wanna play Joker when he's in Arsene.
Man a good Shulk looks frustrating to fight against. His aerials are so big dude! How do you get in on that!?
You don't really. A lot of them as safe when space properly and even if you do get in he may just cheese any follow ups with shield and immediately reverse the situation.
He is slow on startup and on landing lag, just bait and punish and keep the pressure. Not as easy, but neither as hard as it seems.

I don’t really see the point at using Buster at 0-30%. I’ve just started the video and maybe the Shulk main doesn’t do this all the time, but can I have an explanation why Kome did this?
With buster you gain access to true combos like nair-ftilt or dthrow-ftilt
Buster art (purple) does more damage and less knock back 0%- 30% would be some of the best times to use it. Smash art (red) does more knock back and is best at higher %'s. If a shulk player turns on smash at a low % they may be trying to edgeguard better.
Buster will deal more damage with less knockback. So typically it IS used at lower percents since you arent going to typically get a KO yet anyways. I think you may be mixing up BUSTER and SMASH manado.
He did it because he's doing two things:
1) Maintaining advantage - Buster Art is extremely oppressive when you win neutral cuz the damage boost gives you higher shield damage and better hitstun when shielded, making Shulk's moves safer. When an opponent is at a disadvantage, they usually become more defensive and shielding is one of your defensive options (obv) but when Shulk is in Buster, shielding can become a losing bet for you when fighting against him.
2) Comboability - As mentioned by the others, the lesser knockback is a desirable trait for extending combos. Heck, one of Shulk's reliable kill confirm combo is done while in Buster Art. Look for Butterfly Step. That thing takes stocks even from heavyweights...
I forgot to mention another thing... Kome's playstyle with Shulk revolves around being in a Monado Art 90% of the time, as opposed to Nicko who does more work as vanilla Shulk.
Kome is usually in Speed, Buster, or Jump when dealing with neutral or at an advantage. Since Marss rarely took to the air during this set, Kome opted to cycle between Speed and Buster during neutral and advantage while going Shield when necessary, rarely ever using Jump unless Marss is high up after being combo'd, off the platform during an edgeguard situation, or Kome himself is recovering after being off the platform himself.

Commentary was alright but it was really lacking in hype. i mean, things were happening on screen that had no reaction from the commentators, when those are some of the most entertaining moments of commentary.

@@mr.sandman1177 The knockback and damage are nuts, but with how slow it is compared to other counters even with the slow down area, it's not very consistent. Also in Ultimate, it lost it's ability to ignore shields making it worse against projectiles.
Some might say he plays so passive its boring to watch. I think he is playing him just right and that is why he is performing so well. I still find it fun but can understand if some think its boring

Come on, the commentators have been a little too much patriotic now, when Marss did a not that much surprising kick flip kill on last match they were screaming and all, when Kome on last match and last stock switched between 3 arts to avoid the kick flip and killed Marss using a b reversed jump mode up b they were only like:”Yeah good kill” 🤦♂️

Bruuhh these commentators are soooo biased for marss, they pop off when he hits a single flipkick but Kome hits a crazy mixup, or almost that nair to dair and they just go "yea ok"

Linh Tang I feel like they didn’t react to it because it was so fast and so good that it’s hard to even recognize. Fair enough though, commentators at big tournaments should be held to high standards.

@@rospoho dial Storage is a technique that lets Shulk save some Dial's Frames canceling it, making faster his Monado's Dial, letting him to choose Monado's faster, making that he cans combo between MAs, cancel lag of aerials and air dodge, etc.
BSD has a vid explaining it so well, its a hard tech but its worth
rushdown/holding forward doesn't work against shulk...you have to be surgical with your play as ZSS. aim to keep him in disadvantage when he's in shield art, don't let him nair his way out. juggling him is good. and if he uses shield art offstage he's usually not in that great of a position. he was weak start up frames... we can call out where he's supposed to be jumping and win air to air a lot of the time, he can't really play a reactive game. buster mode should always be a liability for shulk in this mu, it makes our grabs on him super effective. trading stocks with stock leads against shulk is optimal
it's a hard mu for zss but marss struggled from a bit of matchup inexperience here. speed, jump and smash art all get camped out, no questions asked.
Marss did good, this matchup is hard for ZSS but once he figures it out hes gonna slay
You'll still be forced to play Shulk's game at times with his range, being able to shield art out of pretty much all of ZSS's set ups and Smash attacks, etc. Monado is extremely difficult to camp out since it lasts a very long time and messing up/them getting a read once is no bueno. Smart art is extremely strong and up B oos can KO at like 80 mid stage.
His ledge trap and edge guard game are also amazing which is one of the last places you'll want to be vs him.
He's one of the most oppressive characters if you've watched Nicko, Uncivil, etc play him and have played vs him imo

The problem is that Shulk requires crazy optimization and dedication to be top tier. Why would someone with the time and talent not just choose Joker and cheese out the win? Is he potentially the best in the game? For sure. However, unless he counters MKLeo's Joker, other top players won't invest the time, and anyone below top level play won't be able to utilize him to his 'potential'.
