There have been many, many movies made about vacations, but this is the best one and it's a classic.
I like how they managed to sneak the crushed car back into the lot without Clark or Rusty seeing it, all within a few minutes.
During the closing for my last car, I thought theys were trying to rip me off. So I said I would just keep my car. The sales guy said, "but we have already moved your plates and property to your new car, and your old car is already out in the back lot..." And they had...
So I took the Pea Green Sports Wagon home.

Wow i’ve watched this plenty of times and never knew Levy was in this. Such an awesome actor.
Levy was in most things having to do with most "2nd City TV" cast members.
@@alwaysopen7970 Which in this case was due to Harold Ramis being the director. They also put him in Ghostbusters 2 as a relative of Louis Tully, but his scenes were cut, and only finally released as deleted scenes this year.
One of the better scenes in the movie is when Clark takes a wrong turn in East St. Louis. Ends up in a ghetto neighborhood. And Clark says "Um, excuse me, we're not from around here." And the black dude says "No s**t." And while the guy is giving him confusing instructions on how to get back on the Interstate, the cohorts are removing the hubcaps.
As for the original clip, where car salesman Ed tells Clark "I know what happened...it didn't come in" reminds me of the other day when I drove 30 miles to Kaiser to pick up a hearing aid. And it wasn't there. And the clerk said exactly the same thing: "It didn't come in." OK. Fine. At least they didn't crush my other hearing aid into a pile of squat.
I noticed the service at Kaiser in Panorama City got worse. what did u do?

This is my all time favorite comedy!
In the 90's, when I sold cars, we had our very own car crusher. His name was Don and he drank every day after work and crushed a lot of the dealership's demos.
At time of viewing, 31 people ordered the Antarctic Blue Sports Wagon.
Seeing that Vista Cruiser getting crushed....

The AMC Eagle, likely what the Antarctic Blue Super Sportswagon was to be, had a "Sport package" option that included a center console with clock, tachometer, oil pressure gauge and ammeter.

I've been scratching my head like this for years
Through the movie the car get's damaged more and more. The license plate gets pulled off, the hubcaps get stolen, graffiti gets spray painted on it, the driver's window gets shattered, the front gets damaged, some of the lights are lost or broken, the tires get blown out. In the original ending, more damage was done to the car, too. Clark frustrated shoots the dashboard with the BB gun causing sparks to shoot out. When they arrive at Roy Walley's house, the guard won't them in, so Clark drives right through the closed gate shattering the windshield. Roy's driveway is lined with a brick wall and Clark drives along side it, scratching the side and causing sparks to shoot out from the side. Clark stops the car on Roy's back patio and the car is pretty much totaled. It's like in the movie, Ed tells Clark it's a damn fine automobile and you may think you hate it but wait till you drive it. It's like through the movie that there's a climax building up where the car is going to eventually die on it's first road trip. Kind of like the Titanic, being told it's a damn fine ship, sinking on it's first voyage. But with the second ending, you kind of lose some of that. Also with the original ending it makes more sense that they're flying home because the car was wrecked so they can't drive home.
0:02 Since 1983 when I saw this in the theater, I still haven't figured out where in Chicago those giant palm trees in the distance are (above AMH's head, top of frame), lol.
In Christmas Vacation there is huge mountains in the background of the car scene. Totally inaccurate.
