  • Spoilers for the 4.2 Archon Quest and the Narzissenkreuz World Quest.
    Rene of the Narzissenkreuz Ordo calculated the World Formula, or the end of the world. It has a lot of similarities with Egeria's Prophecy of Fontaine and Fortuna. Remus, the god-king of Remuria, loved music and grand symphonies. Fate, stars, and destiny intertwine in the Genshin version of the Music of the Spheres (Musica Universalis). Khaenri'ah calculated the world formula first and that's why they were monitoring the stars and looking for the Will of a Descender. Plato is everywhere.
    Edit w/ patch 4.6: This is Musica Mundana, for anyone interested.

    I feel like music connects the world of Teyvat much deeply than people realize. A lot ancient gods/creatures and their stories are intrinsically tied with music. Venti is said to be able to hear and sing any song in the wind; in Liyue Guizhong tried to invent a harmony bell to make music akin to the most beautiful of human's, which led to debates with Ping (who also uses music and it has a strong effect on those who hear); in Inazuma you have the whole quest with Ru and his connection through song to the Thunderbird; the Aranara are entirely about song, you need music to interact with the forest and all sorts of things; in Fontaine you have Remuria with all these music connections but you also have the musical puzzles found throughout the new region; You have Signora's funeral which is accompanied by a Harbinger singing; Then finally you have probably the biggest red flags in the names of the previous Moon Sisters, who seem like key players in their roles to the Teyvat lore, as well as the Seelie lore, who tell of creatures of song and singing lost to oblivion in the Dark Sea...
    *Edit: Ohh and the Sorush quest too, I forgot! You have to play on drums the sacred music! Why are so many rituals music related? 😮

The connections and discoveries that you and the community as a whole have made leave me so star-struck. It truly feels like finding the answers to hidden mysteries in a very real universe. Its such a unique feeling of making your own connections in game and being in disbelief that the writing could be this good for a game. Reminds me of the huge "sound waves" (that had some "noise" as well 👀) that appear with the Sustainer. All those mini rhythm games were just preparing us for the Final Boss fight.
    It still haunts me how the Kory drums were specifically missing Geo and Anemo.
    Nasejuna: When the Kory Drums sounded, all things reverberated in unison. It felt as if their sound could freely traverse space and time...Those who witnessed it were all shaken to the core. Even the elements themselves were stirred.
    Anemo and Geo don't react normally with the elements, they either absorb or crystallize. ...But WHY? Is it because they operate on a different "frequency" from the other elements? Do they strike a discordant note?? (

    not sure how to tie this to a definitive narrative thread at the moment but the concept of songs/music and the stars reminds me of these excerpts from the wings of shimmering galaxy lore:
    "I once knew a certain poet. He lived in an era when the flames of war had just settled, and the embers had just calmed. And he had seen far too many disputes and separations.
    Then, he would sing to the skies above, to the stubborn stone, to the surging seas, and to the stars beyond.
    For he knew that someone must heal the hurts of the world, and thus someone needed to find a way to communicate with them.
    If the sky, the stones, the sea and the stars would reply, then music might flow through all things."
    (...)
    "I was thinking that if I could move the stars to tears one day, I think I'd summon a meteor shower! ...Ah. Right. See this? This wind glider was the stars' answer. It fell from the sky, just like you!"
    also extra context on meteor showers from nahida: "According to current Rtawahist research, a meteor shower is a celestial phenomenon that occurs due to the interference between many intricate fates."
    in conclusion uh.. venti sus.

The music in the game definitely seems really important, I read the other day that "Sonnet" may be "Sonata" too and our EN translation is off, can't remember where but it'd fit with the musical theme. Reading a bit about Tolkien atm too so it reminded me about the creation myth in the Silmarillion with all the Ainur creating a harmonic symphony but Melkor being a Lucifer type figure and messing it up. As a classical musician who's super nerdy about music theory and math, I CANNOT WAIT to see how this all plays out in the lore. I've studied how sound waves interact and how different frequencies can literally interlock and change each other and AHhhHhhhh I'm so excited to see what they do with it all
    There's so many principles in music theory that tie into all this - from the circle of fifths to cyclical form in symphonies, i could go on and on.
    Also I've analyzed all the musical themes in genshin to a ridiculous degree and found so many sus chord progressions and motifs and intervals surrounding things like celestia, gnoses, the traveler, etc - but up until now I haven't been able to figure out what those connections mean. The folks at hoyomix certainly know what they are doing with regard to writing the lore in the music - I really hope that some of my musical questions get answered as we get deeper into this "symphony of fate" idea XDD

      ahhh i have to confess (if it wasn't obvious) I'm not a musician so there are SO many things i miss 😭but i love hearing in-depth studies!! I find it so interesting and wish I had the background, but alas.
      do you write up any of your analyses anywhere because I'm all ears (pun intended)! even without training I've picked up on a few oddities e.g. fischl's theme and maybe the fatui theme(?). and ive also seen someone suggest that 'towers of afrasiab' shares some similarities with the khaenri'ah portion of travails... its all so interesting but I often don't have the training or vocabulary to look into it! sobs
      but like i said even to an untrained ear (like my own) there's gotta be a lot to it, and I'm sooo excited to see where it goes!!

      @naomiford5118 Před 5 měsíci +6

      @@roozeveltfox Totally!
      I haven’t written much of it down, it’s mostly just in my head lol - I keep meaning to make a google doc one day with all my analyses and musical soundbytes (since some of them are hard to understand without hearing the exact spot in the music). I’ll post it here if I ever get round to it, but for now, here’s a few of the big ones in case you’re interested :)
      - The major/raised 4th - the 4th note of the main theme isn’t in the normal scale, it’s what we call a raised 4th since it’s a half tone higher. This note is used a lot in fantasy settings since it sounds kinda magical, but that’s not what makes it interesting here. In fact, some of the other important musical themes in genshin take the idea of a major/raised 4th and put it in the harmonic language of the music as a major 4 chord (which is unusual since it would usually be minor). It’s ALL OVER the battle pass music and the travail music specifically. (actually the chord progression does something really cool in the travail music and I have my suspicions about a potential theme for both of the travelers and/or dainsleif from this, but that’s way too long to go into now lol)

      Also again the the number four, ahhh it’s cropping up all over the place
      - The ascending major 7th interval - this is one motif that plays exactly twice in the whole game: when signora takes venti’s gnosis and when childe tries to take the geo gnosis from the exuvia. The motifs line up so well in the cutscenes and I think the only reason we haven’t heard it since Liyue is because there haven’t been any cutscenes regarding the gnoses since, just dialogue scenes. (L’arrivo Della Signora and Rapture of the Chaos are the tracks it appears in). Anyway, I think this is a theme for the gnoses or perhaps celestia itself since the major 7th sounds so close to an octave and always wants to resolve up to the octave (fits with the theme of celestia and ascension etc).
      Oh also idk if the number 7 is important here (seven nations, seven elements, seven gnoses, you get the point).
      - The Fatui - ok so the harbingers all have very similar themes which makes sense, and they all feature a descending minor 2nd, which is creepy and dramatic BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY is the exact inverse of the aforementioned ascending major 7th in music theory!! (which says something interesting about the fatui and celestia methinks)

      And yes, descending and ascending are standard terms we use in music theory to describe intervals ;)
      - Re: fischl - ok, I cannot figure out why on earth fischl basically has a fatui theme. It is incredibly obvious and yes I know her lore is sus but as of now I don’t see how it’s related to the fatui (unless I’m forgetting something). She also has a lot of harpsichord and organ in her theme which is usually reserved for the fatui as well. There may be a connection between them that we just don’t know about yet, but otherwise, I’m stumped. The only thing I can think of is that since fischl is an early character, maybe the composers didn’t have all their themes planned out when they wrote hers and it accidentally ended up being too similar - but I know the composers are more detailed and careful than that so I really don’t know.
      I could go on (scara has a cool inverted/offeset version of a fatui theme, the fatui also have their own rhythmic motif, I think I found another theme linked to Egeria and Neuvillette, and I could go into way more depth about the rest of it too) but that’ll do for now lol. And again, I don't really know how much of this is directly relevant to the lore except I can tell you it's all connected. Anyway - thanks for reading my essay if you made it this far! (hope it wasn’t too complicated)
      EDIT: spelling

    • @roozeveltfox
      @roozeveltfox  Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@naomiford5118 ooooh this is all so neat! Especially with the major/raised 4th and the 'big' themes. Rule of 3, more like rule of 4...!!
      with the major 7th and those two scenes - does it also appear in the cutscene with nahida and scaramouche (track: All in One, All in Vain)? Although I guess that may be different since it's not the fatui taking (or trying to) take the gnosis and more about scara losing the heart he sought.
      with fischl, i've long thought that there's some loosey goosey connection between Mr. Nine (the author of Flowers for Princess Fishl, which is where Fischl gets her character from) and Khaenri'ah, and thus maybe a Pierro connection. BUT recently I've gotten on board with his other book (Legend of the Shattered Halberd) being an allegory about collecting the gnoses - sooo that suddenly makes a Fischl-Tsaritsa connection a little more substantial. I made a vid about that recently if you want more thoughts on that lmao.
      Thanks so much for sharing!! Sooo interesting, always love hearing more.

    • @naomiford5118
      @naomiford5118 Před 5 měsíci +4

      @@roozeveltfox Yeah! The major 7th doesn’t show up with nahida and scaramouche (I agree that the focus is more on scara’s emotional state in that moment) - the place where I would expect it to show up is when nahida and dottore are bargaining for the electro and dendro gnoses - but alas, that’s just a dialogue scene, so no dramatic cutscene music.
      Also some other thoughts I had with the 7th - as far as I’m aware, the number seven is Biblically the number of completion (and it seems to be in genshin too, what with seven archons/nations/elements)
      BUT in music, that major 7th is very crunchy and really wants to go up to the octave, or the 8th. And would you know it, that’s exactly what happens in the travail music - right when dainsleif is saying “we humans have our humanity” we get these big dramatic chords and intervals reminiscent of those signora and childe cutscenes, EXCEPT it’s actually the octave this time! and now I’m thinking about Khaenriah being the eighth nation necessary to complete the octave and perhaps even after the traveler has collected all the elements they’ll still need something else to ascend (and may I remind you that this interval is literally called an “ascending octave”)
      Alright I need to stop rambling lol - and I’ll definitely check out that shattered halberd video!
      And thanks again for this video, it was a blast!

    Happy New Year!
    I actually always considered Samsaras to be exactly like Wriothesley described it in his character story: a predictable periods of time/history that can repeat in one way or another, unlike, how i saw at least, people sometime infer it as literal time loops of the world and world actually resetting. Can be, then, that the Samsara's described by Ordo are natural extension of the world formula (since, i assume, it can be applied to not only Fontaine's situation and prediction) applied to the whole Teyvat
    (Also, i NEED new Ordo or Remuria quest to give more info on Primal Fire, bc i refuse to believe it's not connected to Natlan (brought to Ordo by Madam M. Laveaux) and/or even one of the shades, with how we already have 2 elements, one of which is also confirmed Primordial, connected to shades of time and life)

    Hi! Happy new year! I usually lurk in the background but I wanted to add something. Music and music terminology is also heavily present in Dante’s Divine Comedy and not only each chapter is called a canto (a song) but in the last part, Paradiso (paradise, heaven) there is a description of the heavenly bodies and planes and the music they compose while crossing the celestial atlas. I have just vague memories of this from school and I should totally check up the details before spouting out a theory based on this but as soon as you started talking about a fundamental song it was the first thing it came to mind. Given how music and heaven seem to be connected in Genshin I wouldn’t put it past the devs to have taken some inspo from that as well.

    So at 15:20, in the screenshot you showed, I have a very interesting theory about it mixed with facts. Its a long one but nonetheless interesting.
    Arama here mentions the sprouting of "Ashvatth" tree, which is a world tree of sorts in Hinduism. Ashvatth tree is sprouted from Brahman(meaning the universe), which is also called "Sarv" or"Sarva". Its also the tree under(and through) which Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment.
    Its said that the tree is actually upside down, with its roots in the sky and branches on earth(false sky theory anyone?). It has no beginning and no end, and its branches are enriched by "Gunas"(keep this term in mind) and its roots are infinitely spread in human world(like leylines) in form of human actions and memories. Lord Krishna tells that in order to reach celestial abode, a human must cut its ties with these infinite roots with a "Strong/Forceful Weapon". This weapon bit is interesting because Reine keeps calling Descender a weapon, that can forcefully cut through reality and memories. He also made that sword for the same purpose that we use to forcefully enter Mary-an's imaginary or dream world.
    Now coming to Gunas, the root definition of Guna in Sanskrit is "Threads", that weave together to form reality.
    Gunas also mean musical notes that make symphonies, which neatly ties with your video that speculates reality being woven by the threads of music.
    Gunas are also described as innate values that every thing in universe possess. The three main Gunas are Sattva(truth/purity), Rajas(passion) and Tamas(laziness). These three Gunas are associated with the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu(Narayan) and Mahesh(Shiva) respectively. Truth is required for creation, passion for sustenance and laziness leads to destruction. These three Gunas weave together to make "Tattva", which means "Elements".
    Also I think the idea of cataclysms being a rational and calculatable pattern is not that surprising. The four Samsaras in game is likely a direct equivalent of Four Yugas in Hinduism, albeit with different number of years in each Samsara(compared to Yugas) to fit the in the logical structure of game. Ancient scholars and mathematicians in Sacred Hindu texts had already calculated the duration of each Yuga, and also the lifespan of earth and the Universe. And its surprisingly very close to modern calculations done by modern scientists. As for what Four Yugas are and what they entail, I'll leave that for you to read about it. Keep Lord Vishnu or "Narayan" in your mind before doing so, because we know he exists in the game, as told by Reine himself in his notes.
    Great video btw! :)
    (And thanks to anyone who made this far!)

      @roozeveltfox  Před 5 měsíci +3

      oh this is SOOO interesting. I remember back in Sumeru trying to read up on the Ashvatta but I don't think I even caught that part about Guna back then. And interesting because I have been also reading up on the Yugas because of the cycles and the notes with Narayana and gotten to that trio... but I somehow didn't make the connection to the Guna there, either. Funny how it's call circling back (pun intended)...
      Very insightful, thank you!

    This makes Rukkhadevata and Venti so damn sus. Rukkhadevata actually sang things into existence from nothing with that sourcesong. Venti can probably see the inner workings of time. Especially the part where rukkha is likened to a shattered moon by nabu malikata
    By the way, the godess Fortuna is also known as 'Automata' because of her independent work from mankind, and that is what brought about the name Automaton
    Also also. The word 'fortuna' and 'pronoea' floats around in the spiral abyss basically everywhere.
    Also also. In Vedic mythology, the universe produces the OHM sound, so everyone begins their religious prayers invoking that sound.

    Plot twist this is Hoyo's big build up to release a permanent rhythm game in Genshin.
    But for realsies, the 4 samsara/movement things you mentioned is a curious one since the four movement cycle was mostly prominent during the Romantic era. Wouldn't you know it Wagner (composer for the Ring Cycle which seems to have a lot of ties with Enkanomiya lore) exists in this era. I'm curious if Fortuna is also a reference to "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana by Orff which is a composition about the literal wheel of fate. Also I wonder if "The Planets" by Holst could be a tie into some of this too, but i have way less groundings on that other than its a super well known piece and can tie in with the whale.
    Musically it seems almost as if the composition styles are moving with every region we go to as well, in the order of western classical music styles: Mond/Liyue being Baroque/Classical Era due to the fugues and inspiration from classical pieces, Inazuma/Sumeru/Fontaine being Romantic Era due to uses of melodies outside of the Western classical composition style and the introduction of more brass, and I'm speculating maybe Natlan/Snezhnaya will have composition styles closer to music in the 20th century. It can also possibly tie into the constant use of math tied to music since a ton of well known composers within this era also incorporated a ton of math in their compositions. Idk just musical thoughts from my dusty music degree.

      I was also thinking of the Carmina Burana connection and the Ring Cycle - and may I add Tchaikovsky's 4th symphony, which has the nickname "Fatum" or "fate," and features a textbook cyclical structure (where the "fate" motif from the first movement is repeated at the very end of the symphony in the fourth movement) - again, with the number four (4th symphony, 4th movement)
      Also, Tchaikovsky gets bonus points for describing fate as a sea that you "drift upon . . . until it engulfs and submerges you in its depths" ;)

    Great video!
    When I first read about the symphony of universal harmony it screamed Wizard101 lore. I don't know if anyone has played it but the overall history of the world is that there used to be one big land (The First World) but 3 Titans fought and broke it. An ancient tree (Bartleby) who's one eye sees the past and the other the future, sang "The Song of Creation" and wove the fragments into a Spiral.
    The second main villain in the game (Morganthe) kidnapped ancient creatures who witnessed the creation of the Spiral and heard "The Song of Creation" so she brainwashed them to sing it while she tried to reshape the Spiral.
    I wouldn't be surprised if "The Sourcesong" is something like "The Song of Creation" with which The Primordial One reshaped Teyvat after the war with the dragons.

    Remus having four harmosts, and the fact that he sailed the seas on a ship to spread his music everywhere, kind of gives me Primordial One vibes. Not to say he's the Primordial One, but there's definitely a connection there, if only by illustration. The Primordial One came from outer space (or the Primordial Sea)- Probably on a ship- and made Four Shades and reshaped the world to his liking.
    I'm about halfway into the video, as I'm writing this, so I'll probably edit if I have any other thoughts.
    Edit: Crazy thought, but what if the lullaby we hear in the game's loading screen is the song that allows us to enter a dream world? That would make Teyvat a massive Samsara, which reminds me of Project STIGMA: A project spearheaded by K.K., that used energy and the "Authority of Finality" to convert humanity into a dreamlike state. Doing so would merge the human minds into a single will, strong enough to become a god. Thus, civilization will be saved from cyclic destruction.
    Knowing this, I'm reminded of the Golden Slumber project, the Narzissenkreuz Ordo's project, Remus' project, and- If I can speculate here- maybe even Celestia shares a similar goal.

    • @roozeveltfox
      @roozeveltfox  Před 5 měsíci +3

      Yes! I'm of the opinion that every story is a nested story - and a reflection or echo, of sorts - of the bigger overarching story. I don't think it's a coincidence that Golden Slumber, NKO, Remus, etc have a lot of similar themes. (And how other stories have strong consistent themes about what it means to be human, fate as theatre, etc)
      you know, given that the NK quest went really hard with the offhand dream references (including that card at the end - "what if life is just a dream?") I don't think it's that crazy. Esp with what you listed + the whole jnana energy thing.

    • @naomiford5118
      @naomiford5118 Před 5 měsíci +3

      Yes! I love this idea about the genshin main theme (aka the loading screen music) being the sourcesong/fundamental power/dream song (or anything related to that)
      I'm a music theory nerd and from my obsessive analysis of genshin music, I'm convinced that it's far more than just the main theme of the game. It shares so many musical similarities to other significant themes (like the battlepass cutscene music and the travail teaser - they all have a rather unusual major 4th, both harmonically and melodically).
      Also we all know the devs like to link literally everything in the game to the lore, so i definitely wouldn't put it past them
      also the track for the loading screen music at night is literally called “DREAM aria”
      need I say more

    - Music:
    Maybe creating songs could be another way to preserve the truth of the world and it's events, much like the fairy tail books, who can keep information from being tampered by Irminsul. Perhaps that is what Nicole meant by "places where the god's gaze can not reach" (i'm paraphrasing), being a concept instead of an actual physical place that you can walk to. Where key information is interwoven into harmless forms of entertainment, to keep it at bay from totalitarian forces. A good example of that is how some South American musicians sprinkled protest lyrics in their songs, during the dictatorships in their respective countries to try and avoid being arrested, while still defying the status quo in a subtle way.
    Mayhaps the sounds of the wind carry the harmony of revelation, a silent symphony of times past, a cacophony of present screams and a dissonance of undetermined futures possibilities. Perhaps Venti unlocked the full control of Wind (not Anemo) somehow, which gave him access to powers beyond the usurpers comprehension (since i doubt they fully understand all there is to the elements). But since our favorite apple fetishist is already bound to them, via the Archon 360 deal, he can't do much more aside from aiding the Tsaritsa and hoping the winds of change blow in the most favorable direction. Or maybe i'm just drunk on apple juice, we shall never know... Tehe~
    - Final thoughts:
    I hope the rest of Fontaine delivers on the hype it has built up so far, because speculation is like edging and i can only handle so much blue balls 😔. This 4.3 drought right after Skirk showed up (albeit disappointing in design) is pure, calculated evil.

    Speaking of symphony and music: the theme of “fontaine” and Focalors execution starts at exactly 16:50 in Fontaine every ingame day. I tried it with other “city nations” themes but none have this. It might just be something Hoyo coded that way, but its very interesting- you can all try it for yourself and it ends around 18:30 ingame time.

    Btw what do you think about Furina's future? Do you think she will become irrelevant to the main story moving forward or will she be important like other Archons? if so then what role can she even play...hmmmm, i have my own theory but it's vague and kinda mess so wondering if you have any idea at all as to what's gonna be her role in the future.

    • @roozeveltfox
      @roozeveltfox  Před 5 měsíci +2

      imho I think since Furina is fully human, she won't really have a big role to the overarching story going forward. But I've been wrong about many things before, and also I still want to see her in event stories!!
      She could definitely play a huge role in uncovering Fontaine's secrets/history, though, given her role for the past 500 years. She must have acquired a lot of knowledge, especially since she was looking in to how to stop the prophecy. Like I imagine she might know a decent amount about Narzissenkreuz (and that could also play into Arlecchino stuff maybe?).

      while it might have been a one off thing, i think they set up Arlecchino and Furina rivalry in AQ, which will extend beyond AQ.
