I really love these tutorials since you can't find these procedures in too many other places. As a tip, whenever i take apart something - I have a separate table that i unfold(big and made of plastic) and use it to place my parts and screws in a pictagram so i know EXACTLY where all the components go when i go to put them back. I too have a huge complex about putting different screws in different places so i want everything to be put back the same way i took it apart. Great video.
Thank you! Yes, I always lay everything out in the order it comes out. I get into so many jobs where others have put the wrong screws in the wrong places. Drives me nuts!
Oh Tony! I love that 89! I’d love to see a complete walk around! I’m so envious of your parents. The two tone interior is just amazing!! Beautiful!! I think 89 was probably the best year out of the 80’s TownCar year models. I’ve been wanting one for so long.
Thank you! I put the full walk around and drive video of this car at the end of this video. All you have to do is click on it as this video ends. We agree that the 89 was the best year.
That Lincoln is stunning.
Thank you! They get compliments everywhere they go. I went through McDonald's yesterday, and the kid at the window said, "That's a cool car!"
You gotta respect view count. A couple of your vids had over 200K views and a couple had less than 200 views. Excellent way to know what's up. Don't quit. Your channel is one of my favorites !!
Thank you, Sir! It takes a long time to do the editing and stuff, so I guess, just no more of "The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village videos.
I'm dumbfounded to see that Ford buried the fuses for the anti theft module
underneath the dashpad. Great fix Tony, I would have been looking at the blend
door thinking that perhaps the vacuum canister was no longer holding vacuum.
This car and many other Fords of the era were some of the best most dependable
cars they ever put out imho.
Yes, Sir! you are preaching to the choir. We've had so many of these cars over the years, and dad and I were just talking this evening about how many trouble-free miles we've gotten out of them. I want to do a video just the alarm system itself one of these days. There will be a couple more videos coming out on this one, probably over the weekend. Thank you very much for watching and commenting.
the auto fan was my favorite part on our family's 73 coupe's ATC. That unit was without a fan control at all, just nudge the temp lever over to bump the fan up or down, worked great, very simple, very intuitive.
Those parts are getting hard to find for those cars now.
Another great video Tony. This is going to be helpful when I start working on the hvac system in my 1981 Marquis Brougham. It has the optional Automatic Temperature Control system and currently only blows warm air through the defrost vents. In all of my years of working on these cars, I have never had to work on hvac other than recharging systems. Surely the components are the same and locations similar to the Town Car. Thanks for the confidence boost, your timing is always impeccable!
You're welcome, and thank you, Michael! I sure would think it would be the same, and it certainly sounds like a good place for you to start.
Tony, Putting aside air conditioning issues for a moment, you have reminded me how much I miss car interiors that are not black or gray. Can anyone remember the last time someone made a car with a red dash or steering wheel?
I certainly can't think of the last one I saw with anything other than Grey, Tan, or Black. It really is sad.

Take it easy on yourself the videos on greenfield village are always interesting by the way thanks for the video on how to replace the atc after all I found a matching blue dash pad for my 88 tc in the junkyard with no cracks! So you video showed me what entails taking it off
Thank you for watching and commenting. Much appreciated!
Imagine replacing a part on a car and not having to take it to the dealership to have it computer programmed with proprietary software, makes you believe the world used to be a better place?
No kidding! I didn't even think of it that way. Good call, Dave!
Great work Tony 😊
Nice Town Car, looks very well kept
Thank you very much! It gets driven almost every day but is definitely maintained.
Nice car!! Will be glad to have AC again.
Yes, MA! It is definitely getting some looks and compliments, as you already well know!
Great video Tony, thank you....
You're welcome. Thank you!
Absolutely amazing Mr. Tony - how do you figure all this out. Special thanks to you for helping out your mom & dad. What a blessing you are. Roseann & Dan
Thanks, D & R! I didn't have any money when I started driving all of these cars, so it was figure it out myself or do without.
Great educational video Tony
Thank you very much!
Hi again Tony, no you do not hav to bee sorry we can see what you are doing fine. And as usual i like your videos a lot.👍👍
Thank you once again, Sir! Always appreciated.
Got a spare one the shelf for my 88 vic.
that guy who got called in on the carpet for over-torqueing the 1958 Lincoln instrument clusters never again felt right about putting in the screw over the speedometer. :P kidddddding.
🤣😂🤣😂
176,000 miles car is in amazing condition and beautiful. Of course it's one of your cars of course it is 😂. I had a 89 Town car i bought from the limo company i worked for. It was the owners mom's car and was used for corporate pickups. Which meant picking someone up from the airport. I hated driving to the airport still do it's a complete nightmare lol Boston Logan international airport. There is a limo car park but it was always full my luck 🤦 i loved that car 🚗 I'm going to get another one day. My car currently has 160,000 it's a 05 Toyota Corolla i thought that was a lot lol
My dad is 80, and he still keeps the car and truck both very clean and still changes his own oil in both. The Lincoln is usually driven every day, no matter the weather.
I like all your videos !!!
Thank you very much!

You're welcome. Thank you!
I need to do this exact same thing to my 89 and I keep putting it off. The dash pad has never been off and I didn’t want to “break the seal” on it. The problem that I am having is that I keep it set to about 73-75 degrees on Auto and it just gets colder and colder and won’t blend the warm and cold air together so it gets a lot colder than 75 degrees in the car. Do I need to worry about replacing that little ring of foam around the opening where it connects to the opening in the dash? Thanks so much for doing this video!
No, I have never replaced that foam. I guess you could, but I've never had one not work, and I've never replaced it. Thank you again for watching and commenting!
Awesome video Tony, glad to see your back to making repair videos. Keep them coming. Would you know where I could find one for a 77 mercury marquis? I've been having the same issue with my ac in my 77. Thought it might have been the hvac relay but that didn't fix it.
Thank you so much! I don't know right off where to find one, but I assume they are the same one used in the Lincolns, so it shouldn't be hard to find. It I ever start parting out the two I have, they may be good.
Another interesting video! Makes me wish I still had my ‘88 Town Car. It also was white with a full blue vinyl roof and leather interior. It was the base model but had the Premium Sound. I used it for livery service in NYC. I had an overheating issue with it at highway speed. They put a pressure tester on it and found that it had a cracked block. The block was replaced under warranty. BTW, do you ever grab an ear or two of corn from across the street when it’s in season?
Wow! I've never heard of one of them having a cracked block before. That's crazy. I'm glad they fixed it. No, that corn is sprayed with so many chemicals that I don't even like being outside when they do it. We definitely did that as kids, but certainly not nowadays. Everything is poisoned! It's sad.
@@tonyscarcare5657 It would overheat, as I said on the highway and when it cooled down, there was no coolant left in the radiator! That’s what they determined. They had it for a week and it never leaked on the ground. It would blow out the crack under load. Glad I didn’t have to pay for the repair! That must be corn for industry or “cow corn” as my mother used to call it.
Yeah, I think a lot of this corn goes into ethanol for fuel.
Great video Tony. Will be handy for my two Mark VI’s if that ever plays up. Speaking of which, the digital dash on my 351 powered 1980 Navy MKVI sedan has gone blank. Any tips on trouble shooting it. I also need to do the same on my 1987 Bill Blass MK7. Cheers Mark
Thanks, Mark! Has the whole complete dash gone blank or just part of it? I've seen the clock go blank but not the whole thing.
@@tonyscarcare5657 The whole thing. I will start replacing fuses but thought you might know what I should look out for. I do have a spare dash so if I have to replace it I will but prefer not to. 👍
Yeah, I've never had one go completely out, and I don't have a manual with a diagram for that year. Good luck with it, Mark.
@@tonyscarcare5657 Thanks Tony. 👍
What a great solution! Would this work on my '73 Marquis ATC sensor as well?
It very well could, Dennis. I believe they are practically the same system with a few changes. The sensor is definitely located in the same spot.
@@tonyscarcare5657 Thank you sir, I thought so too. I will keep this trick in mind if mine ever misbehaves.
Let's hope not!
Hi there! I’m trying to locate one of those sensors. What exactly are they called?
Automatic Temperature Control Sensor (ATC sensor).
Good morning guy. Hope all well. I just have a question about the coffee can looking vacuum canister. I actually went to test it for leaks and its gone. I think y left at some garage. Anyway is there a remedy for this? A replacement one? Any ideas? I still have the dash apart as i am trying to find a vacuum leak as well as changing the heater core
If it's gone, it will cause all kinds of problems. It may not even have a vacuum leak. You can get one from a Grand Marquis or Crown Victoria in the junkyard.
@@tonyscarcare5657
Thank you Tony. I guess auto part stores don't have a replacement one.
No, they don't have anything like that.
@@tonyscarcare5657
Thank you. I am calling many places. No luck yet.
I’ve replaced about six of these not that hard to do at all
And they probably weren't defective. Just dirty.
@@tonyscarcare5657 of them more dirty three of them were actually defective. One person just wanted a whole new part and one car I was restoring and putting a new part in.
