Hunter is a typical pony from Baltimare who's seen far too many bad movies and he now feels its his obligation to to give them what's coming to them. This time things have turned for the worse with the worst theatrical release in decades; The Emoji Movie.
I took my 9 year old niece to see this movie.
After 30 minutes she asked if we could leave.
It was then i knew, im not just old, this movie is just terrible.

The main problem with the Emoji is what it represents as a concept. You can make an interesting movie about toys or video game characters or tulpas representing emotions, but you can't make an interesting movie out of bloody Emojis, shitty pieces of art designed to be as bland and shallow as possible. It also directly insults teenagers despite trying to pander to them.

I asked my cousin about this movie and he said his teacher put this movie on, and even the teacher got pissed at it. Long story short, my cousin saw about 7 minutes of it before Mr "cinema sins" decided to just get the games out. Cinema Sins loves this teacher

Well, his career had way more cred and beloved, iconic roles so I think this stinker wouldn't upset the apple cart. Though its true that any actors take on or are thrown into less pleasing roles, to earn some extra cred or some cash.
I was babysitting these kids and we went to see this movie and 30 minutes in one of them ask me if they can see spiderman homecoming then we played in the theaters arcade til the next showing of spiderman and these kids are 7, 10, and 12 and they hated the emoji movie the movie's target audience hated this movie I have some hope now that some of these kids know bullshit when they see it

_What if I made The Emoji Movie...?_
Main Plot: Smiler, a smiling emoji with a facial disability, wants to stop smiling all the time, so she tries to do a contract with a witch emoji to change her traits. (Animation, horror, tragedy, drama)
- There are more than two sexes for the emojis: Male, female, genderless (In other words, non-binary), or genderfluid (In which the emoji is able to shapeshift and change their gender.) (This is due to the actual emojis having an undetermined gender.) It is also possible for an emoji to be trans (Update themselves, changing their gender permanently).
- Even when each emoji is expected to act one way their whole lives, they actually have complex personalities.
- Cryer is emotionally unstable due to his depression, having emotional outbursts over little things. Even when he can smile and try to be kind/friendly every once in a while, these are superficial, as he feels empty and demotivated.
- Meh is actually a psychopath, due to his lack of affection and empathy. However, it doesn't make him a serial killer or any other types of criminals.
- Smiler (The protagonist) is, despite having her unhappy moments, cheerful, optimistic, and extremely friendly, but she was born with this physical trait - Her mobility of her mouth is extremely limited. She can only smile and talk, being unable to frown or make other expressions with her mouth.
- Some emojis are exceptions and break these rules (That this, they don't have a personality based off of their appearance). The princesses, for example, have different personalities, even when many of the emojis have this misconception that they are happy and fashion-addicted. Other exceptions are some object and symbol emojis (Clothes, flowers, animals [They're irrational], feces, etc.)
- The emoticons also exist in their world, and work just like the emojis.
- Inside the phone, they have a world in which they're only able to travel to apps in which you can send emojis in comments/texts. They're unable to access apps which there are no emojis involved due to a barrier they have.
- A multi-expressional emoji, Kira, does exist, and she's often used if the phone user is unable to decide which emoji they should use. Unlike in the original movie, where Gene was looked down for his traits, Kira is looked up for her traits and the other emojis are jealous of her. (It's like you being jealous of a very rich celebrity.)
- Kira is another exception, compared to other emojis. She has a personality of her own (Very solemn, hardworking, and mature), despite nailing it when it comes to making other faces.
- There are no loser lounges. Emojis who are not very used simply have traits of introversion mixed up with their personalities.

For those that don't know, the Popeye movie WASN'T cancelled for the Emoji movie. It was cancelled because Amy Pascal didn't like it and wanted to make it modern, the director refused and left. After that, it was cancelled. THEY DIDN'T CANCEL THE POPEYE MOVIE FOR THE EMOJI MOVIE!

The Popeye movie was NOT cancelled because they had to make The Emoji Movie. The Popeye movie was canceled 4 months before Sony started working on The Emoji Movie, since they won a war against two other studios to get it.
Another thing is that when the Popeye movie got canceled, Sony and Sony Pictures Animation had their old presidents. After the Sony Hack, the two studios got new presidents, and The Emoji Movie got made because of the new presidents. They didn't intentionally cancel Popeye for an emoji movie.

You're SO right about Sony. How the hell is this the same company that greenlights AMAZING games with AMAZING stories like Horizon: Zero Dawn? How is THAT not a concept that went into a movie? God of War, Sly Cooper, Last of Us, Uncharted, why is Sony ONLY applying creativity to the PlayStation arm of the company? If they approached movies like they approach games, we wouldn't have this issue.

Back in 2017, when my mind was still blissfully unaware of the world and film making, I kind of enjoyed this movie.
A few months later, I got up and OPENED MY EYES to this abomination of a film and I still can't believe I used to enjoy this monstrosity!

Dude you know why Popeye looked LEAGUES above what Sony normally does right? They handed direction of it (and the trailer) over to Gendy Tartakovsky, a man commonly referred to as a creative genius for his work on Samurai Jack, Dexter's Lab and countless other classic cartoons of the 90's. Popeye was going to be a huge turning point for the company thanks to Gendy. But no, they were worried about brand recognition and if kids would care about something as old as Popeye and opted for something more "hip" and "trendy". It honestly makes me sick.
Sony gave Gendy the middle finger despite his list of accomplishments and now they've probably lost the one person who could've turned their company around.

Hard to believe that Sony helped make Spiderman homecoming, one of the highest grossing films of current cinema history, to this.

Technically, I think that was Marvel studios who made the film. Sony I think was only in charge of advertisement and distribution.

I saw the movie yesterday. I knew it would be bad, but didn't predict some of the painful cliches that would come out of it, including hatable characters, ripping off 8 movies in one blow, and unfunny half baked jokes. I feel bad for the actors, animators, and director (he wrote The Prince of Egypt of all things!). Also I heard that Popeye is postponed and not cancelled entirely. Not sure when it's coming but it better be soon.
Btw, that ending was awesome!!!
