  • See how analog satellite TV allows you to watch your favorite shows even indoor with windows closed, while digital satellite TV will probably not work.

    i prefer analog by a long shot id rather have it staticy sounding than have a blocky or black screen i loove analog

    *On my cable TV is both analog and digital:*
    90% of digital channels are blocky with random colors and image moving and stretching on screen and disappears at all sometimes, and analog channels can just be a little snowy sometimes, but always available and watchable. Also picture is always stable. Rarely flips for 0.1 second. Also digital box lowers quality of analog channels, so I don't use it at all. (also using two remotes, stupid OS/UI, waiting for channels to load and no privacy...)

      still get a picture unlike a black screen

    That's odd, some digital signals are supposed to have a lock at single digit C/N ratios.
    Alright, so it seems like it greatly depends on the signal itself. No two DVB-S/S2 signals are the same. Some will give you a lock at maybe 1-2 dB S/N ratio, and others require up to 10 dB. And then you can have low symbol rates as well, a 3-5 MHz wide channel. So that you can use a 60 cm dish even for signals in the 45 dBW range, or if you have some big dish in the 300 cm range, perhaps even receive it outside the footprint. And with HEVC 3000 kS and QPSK will be good for 720p50 video of decent quality. An analog 3 MHz channel would basically give you a raw VHS signal.
    But one more thing to keep in mind is potential selective fading.

    I see one avdantage. You can change channels much faster than with digital.

      Analog = Privacy
      Digital = No privacy

    Bei meinem alten Analog-Satellitenempfang war auch viel merkwürdig. Die Schüssel wurde irgendwann in den 80er-Jahren an der Mauer befestigt und der damalige Elektriker muss so betrunken gewesen sein, dass bei vielen Sendern die Polarität falsch eingestellt war. Vor allen bei den Privatsendern hatte man immer Probleme mit dem Empfang, vor allem bei RTL, dessen Kanal immer von Eurosport gestört wurde, weil Eurosport zu stark eingestellt war. Am besten konnte man 3Sat, ARD und ZDF empfangen.

    I created an algorithm to record analog signals on digital computer truely analog way, with unlimited (smooth) precision additive white noise instead of quantization distortion. This way people don't have to put up with digital anymore.

      This is fantastic! Please make it commercially available, I think many people would like to put older analog composite videos on the internet with no quality reduction.

    and dishes don't work well indoors ...unless you have balcony and please put in outside so it can see whole dish from your location..indoors ...satellite in space will only reach you through windows only while other beams gonna bounce off from your bricks ..so your getting 25% of signal vs outside 75% or higher depending obstacles like trees and buildings close by

    You know how with analog unlike digital, analog can still show the image even with a weak signal? Is there another reason why analog is better than digital?

      Of course the FCC wanted television stations to switch to digital due to people buying HD TV more nowadays.

      Also with interference. Analog will see dots. Digital will freeze up and show error message.

    • @charlieangkor8649
      @charlieangkor8649 Před 4 lety +2

      Yes. Digital has high encoding latency, like 5 seconds. You have two pubs, one has digital TV the other analog. The analog one is already cheering about the goal for several seconds, the digital people are still wondering why the other pub people are cheering. Or try video call over Internet. There is a delay, like if the other person was on the Moon. It makes people interrupt each other and looks like the other one is constantly lying, has to think over his words for several seconds before he crafts his lie for you.

      Well Astra was the last european analog satellite shut down in 2012. But there are still many analog satellites in Brasil and Latin America.

  • @DXPG

    Yes I agree, digital is definitely better! (in terms of picture quality, quantity of channels etc.)
    BUT: Simulcast of analog would not really hurt anyone (except for SES Astra who want to use the TPs digitally), especially since it's very easy to get a signal.
    I even managed to get an analog signal of Astra with a wok pan and a LNB... ;-)

      I think that would be possible with Hotbird or Amos in digital as well. The latter having a 58 dBW beam.

    I think, it's because DVB-S have problems with multipath, unlike DVB-T.

    i see zero advantages to me....only advantage digital is picture perfect...when using Ku band over C-band....shorter and faster work better than longer and slower frequency on digital ....due to bandwidth...its much hard for c-band on smaller dishes due to higher error rate requires bigger dishes since c-band is not small beams compare to ku band is very tiny....its why smaller dishes have no issue with ku band but only setback be the rain drops...c-band is bigger than rain drops ...8foot dish have no issue in rain depend your lnb connectors is rain proof....
