    It almost makes you wonder if there wasn't a Uhtred type figure, that stood beside a king. Throughout history there have been tails of men who if not for them, certain kings would not become rulers. The t.v show the last kingdom, in its fictional telling of a story. Almost makes you believe that Alfred, Edward, and AEthelstan. Had a great warrior by their side.
    Your production of these historical events are spot on. This is the only channel I have subscribed to for historical events.
    Can't wait for the next , thank you for all your hard work to bring the truth to light.

      As with anyone in history it's what being a knight is based on. You have men like William Marshal. Great warriors that got land and stuff. Alexander the great had men. Caesar had people he could rely on. It's more about people you can rely on. Even in today's world our politicians are cowards yet have great special forces that can protect them and do dirty work. I think now is the worst it has ever been out of all the rulers the last 100 years+ has seen the most cowardly get to the top. When they would have been killed. George bush didn't even accept a duel with Saddam in Iraq invasion. Had this been another age George bush would never rule. Andrew Jackson would welcome such a duel. As would kings and princes. Humanity has truly fallen since the Reign of terror. It's just never recovered socialism has plagued us even today. The right people that should be in charge aren't in charge. And people are just not caring about countries anymore. It even looks like there is a global elite cabal in charge. We destroyed our countrie with weak corrupt men and women.

    Alfred the Great was the greatest king in British History. Even his Son Edward Elder was a brilliant leader but did not have the ability to be greater than his father. There was not a better leader for England ever since. Edward and Alfred would be rolling in there grave if they saw how embarrassing our Royal Family is

      The fact that Alfred fought Guthrum from the marshlands once he had lost everything and had a health condition shows he had an iron will!!! He was indeed one of the greatest kings to ever be born in England! It’s a shame how his line came to and end though with Edward the confessor being so weak

    • @BSdetected
      @BSdetected Před 5 měsíci +1

      Rubbish … British history has had kings who ruled empires. Starting with Canute the great…. However, you might better claim that Al was the greatest of the Wessex kings, but then… would not a magnificent king be better than a great one, such as Athelstan the magnificent?… or glorious? Regardless i would suggest that the greatest Wessex king was Egbert, whose reign saw the rise of the Wessex supremacy period by force of arms in 825-827 period. All Al did was claw back possession of a much diminished portion of what Ecgberts Wessex once was.

    A bit of speculation here, but how different might British history have been if the Great Heathen Army had not invaded? The invasion destroyed Northumbria and split Mercia between the Saxons and the Vikings. If it had not happened, England may not have united, or at least the unification may have been delayed for some time beyond the historical timeline. The Norman conquest may not have happened if it had been three seperate kingdoms and three seperate royal families, requiring three seperate justifications for war. The Kingdom of Scotland (Alba) may well have become powerful and exerted more influence over the history of the island of Britain, and the Welsh kingdoms may have retained independence for longer, or had they united under a strong king, challenged the Anglo Saxon kingdoms.

    • @historyprofiles
      @historyprofiles  Před rokem

      I honestly have no idea, but Alfred would never have been king as his brother Aethelred I of Wessex would not have died and his line would have ruled! There are just so many different variables when it comes to this! However, England would have been a completely different nation. I will assume the kings of Mercia, northumbria, East Anglia and Wessex would have continued fighting amongst themselves as they had done for centuries

    Huh? You put Welsh to describe the Britons. The Brythonic People of Cymru wouldn’t been routinely known as Welsh for a long time to come. The English Still referred to these people as Britons all the way up to the 1700s. Until the English started using the term….then the foreigners (English) took the term British and called the British foreigner.
