It’s sad once you think about it. Vlad programmed the hologram Maddies to be so in love with him that they end up being too busy fighting over who will tell him about the asteroid to warm him before he attempts his plan. That alone proves how detrimental his obsession with Maddie is to his own happiness.
The one thing bigger than his "love" for maddie is his hatred for Jack fir taking her from him. Maybe the hologram was simulation to convince himself that he's better, but was backfired.
