My fuel filter cracked after about 6 months installed without being physically damaged or stressed. I had to replace all the woodwork round it as it got soaked. I even cut a square from the floor. IMHO the OEM filter (slightly expensive at £30) is a good investment. Mel, if you will be exploring the subject of filters anytime, finding a cheaper reliable alternative might be beneficial for the community.

excellent video Mel! your the only person ive ever seen take one apart and show a few ideas of repairing and fault finding. the glow plug seal is interesting and does show the importance of a carbon monoxide detector, as its always been said they cant leak apart from the exhaust outlet. you certainly didnt look a wally filing the hole bigger and i think you were thrown off trail by being sold a special spanner... i guess most people would have the same issue unless they split it first, but would still try the spanner if it came with it. Great job

I'm not so sure, firstly I didn't see a burn chamber gasket which is present on other models and must be replaced after a strip down plus I noticed small remnants of the outer casing gasket (the green one) still present on the casing after it was separated, I didn't see Mel remove these remnants before reassembly. The fact that the glow plug socket doesn't fit properly because the heaters components don't line up rang alarm bells for me. Sorry to be a pain but I always ere on the side of caution in these situations.
John McK 47 has a channel that goes into more detail. I urge you to check it out!!!!
It looks to me like the manufacturers of this unit have put more emphasis on the outer casing gasket and the glow plug gasket as a last line of defence from leaking fumes and both of these now look compromised. Still enjoyed watching it though.

Still got to instal mine, it’s one of those jobs you put off and off, excuse after excuse..once this weather has finally decided what it’s doing and can give me hours of decent conditions then I will get it done. Mines an Erbaspacher D2 that I bought from a Welsh chap who revamps them for resale..I’ve not tested it as the wiring hardly matches and it’s taken ages to find anything regarding the set up (I know, should of asked the nice chap) but think I’ve got it. You’ve made it look not such a daunting task, so that will be my next job, I will keep all files hidden and won’t poke it too much and hope it works…watch this space, hope it’s doesn’t become a pile of ash.

I took the old one out before I bought a new one, as there was a couple of different connector designs. The slotted tool is a very good tip though. I've found some of the controllers on these can be set to run on either 12 or 24 volts with 12 being the default setting which on some will revert to when power has been removed from the controller for a bit as if they used a capacitor as a memory battery, not so handy if you had it set to run with a 24 volt system but handy if someone like myself ham fistedly managed to change the setting and couldn't figure out the button combo to get back to reset it to 12v. Cheers!

Just an advisory: Some of us have Webasto and Webasto knockoff heaters and those look similar from the outside but have different parts on the inside. They don't use the slotted socket to remove the glow plug, for instance, because the glow plug is not threaded but is held in with a set screw.

How much difference dose it make?..Have two AGM batteries similar to what you have and thinking of adding a third one like you have. Only a part timer in my van, but use everyday. Hi, did you unplug the glow plug at the motherboard before attempting to use the socket ? If not that would cause it to snap the wires. The socket is such a poor fit it would work at an angle to remove the plug as it was , off set or not. Always entertaining Mel and always my first watch of the CZcams day. Cheers Richie.

You still need a modified c-spanner to remove/tighten the glo-plug from inside the heater . The shoulders of most spanners are too thick and need grinding down to allow the spanner to turn sufficiently . See John Mck 47's video on "Special Tools" the 2:05 mark is pertaining to this issue .

    I have a question
My diesel heater stopped taking fuel in. The pump works and push it through but u can see leak at the heater inlet. So not sure what that could be.. could it be
it runs for few minutes, doesn’t heat up and then stops/ goes into shut down mode

My heater worked fine for months but stopped recently with E01 error. The next day it worked fine. The next, E01 again. I replaced solar-fed battery since it was getting on in years and is the usual suspect for E01, but problem persists intermittently. Is E01 the "appropriate error code" for glow plug failure, and could this indeed lead to salvation? See commenter reference below. I assume some component is dying slowly and have ordered a whole new unit -- 92 USD Cyber Monday -- rather than risk another Rocky Mt night without heat while waiting (and paying) for parts and fumbling for solutions, but if problem persists, what next?
Could the fuel pump somehow trigger E01? I've read checking controller for 24V, but if it always worked 12V, how could controller have changed? I'll check for due diligence next chance I get; it's too cold to go outside, I'll be at the bar.
