This amount of dismantling wasn’t the answer I wanted to see for a bulb change 😂

Absolutely stupid! Why do Renault hate us so?

On our Mk3 Ph2 86 dCi with A/C I can change the H7 bulbs without dismantling much more than the screen wash filler neck on the O/S and the battery cover on the N/S, for Main beam, and no dismantling at all for the dipped beam, which are actually the outer bulbs on our Clio, contrary to what is published in the owner handbook. I don't have big hands, which maybe what makes it possible.

You don’t need to take anything apart to change the main headlight bulb .
It’s the top bulb in the light unit , so whilst it’s tight you can get your hand in there .
Pull the protective cover off / pull the wire socket off / pull the bulb out .
Do not touch the glass of the new bulb ( hold it with a cloth or tissue ) plug the new bulb into the wire socket with the tab on the metal of the bulb base facing towards the engine ( passenger side light unit ) then whilst looking from the outside of the light unit , find the hole and guide it in , turn the bulb left and right slightly until it seats right , it’s a faff but it will go in eventually .

It is pretty easy. For mainlight:
    1. take off plastic cover
    2. squeeze black wiring connector by its horizontal side (like squeezing the equals sign lines closer = ) and pull it out
    3. remove light-bulb
    4. take new bulb insert it into wiring connector with the little tab/peg facing up
    5. shine light on opposite side and watch until the upward facing tab sits into gap in circular socket
    6. push in lightly while wiggling/rotating, until the black wiring connector is in. then push with more force once you see it is in

Alot of work for a bulb, I replaced 2 today without removing anything, the offside one is difficult if the car has air conditioning but did both in 30 mins max, try and pull the plug and bulb out together, failing that, when putting new bulb in (h7) make sure to plug it into its wiring then push straight in, looking through the lens and clipping firmly into position

Yeh, if you're a DIY mechanic, completely unnecessary to remove the headlight unit. You can do it by feel: remove the bulb connector and bulb as described. The tricky part is refitting, which is the reverse but can be done with much fiddling and grazing of nuckles etc.! You can use your phone as a camera too.

  • @bifutake
    @bifutake Před rokem

I guess it's nice to know how to remove the entire frontal bumper (hence the 'like' you'll receive from me) but, as previously said by other people, it's completely unnecessary if you only need to change a light bulb. Just did it myself, on the more difficult, driver's side (French version, not British), and yeah, refitting the connector is definitely the hard part, but it's doable, with a lot of trial and error until you get it right. Didn't have to remove anything but the rubber cover (which is also easily reattached) and the faulty bulb (main beam).
So to conclude, arm yourselves with patience if you try this at home because connecting it again blindly can be quite tricky. But who knows, maybe you'll get lucky.

WTF? All that to replace a bulb? Never seen anything so ridiculous, bulbs should be the easiest thing to change on a car, 2 minute job at most. Last time I ever buy a Renault.

  • @charlesgiacomarra531

ok, I just successfully replaced the H-7 low beam on Left side and the W5W parking bulb on Right side of my wife's 2008 Clio. It was doable w/o any special tools. I used my cell phone camera to take some close-up photos to see what I was working with, since you really have to do every thing by "feel". You must have SMALL hands. The video was helpful, but did not explain the wire metal clip that all modern cars use to retain the bulb. The wire clip needs to be disconnected by pinching and swinging down out of the way. The first time I didn't know so I just removed the clip from it's retaining holes. Please don't beat up on Renault, it is just as annoying to change the bulbs on my Hondas and my friend's Jeep.
