Animated Sci-fi short film "Laniakea"

- čas přidán 22. 05. 2024
- The action takes place in the future, when superluminal speeds allow for travel to any point in the universe. People are hoping to find extraterrestrial life, but as of yet no one has succeeding in finding anything. One day, a lonely man finds a message in a monolith that has been drifting in space. It helps him to find a portal that leads to the home planet of those who made the monolith. He finds a giant structure, a building. But ...This place is breathing on its own. Where has everyone gone?

Special thanks to my University and Proshina Anna who helped me with a rendering.
The inscription on the monolith is a Vulcan language from Star Trek. I didn't have time to design my own language at that time, I'll create a unique language for the second part, and will try to replace it in the re-edition.

Part One was amazing. SO looking forward to Part Two!
This was awesome! Great job!
“Two possibilities exist... Either we are alone in the universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.” - Arthur C. Clarke
we are ready to see another species, but once we know outhere we found human, it's more terrifying 🤣
Or we are the First or we are the Last
The scariest type of alien, to me, is one that is so advanced it is beyond our understanding.
For example, if you want to build a road but there is an ant colony in the way, you do not stop construction. You don't try to explain the road to the ants, or politely ask them to move. They couldn't possibly understand. You just pave over their little world.
In that example, we are the ants. Alien society could be all around us and we lack the senses or cognitive ability to perceive understand it. We could be like ants in an ant farm, with our dimensional travel artificially restricted so we can be observed. We would never know the difference.
@@PaulJokiel I have mulled over this very concept many times.
Alien race: arrives with FTL drive, super advanced AI, telepathy, ect.
Earthlings: Hey ya'll-come on down and see our...wheel 😏
@@PaulJokiel Larry Niven did a short story that touched on that... it was about a Rammer (ramscoop starship pilot) who had a catastrophic system breakdown only to get picked up by something that was to him like a person would be to an ant, then calmly deposited on an inhabited planet somehow without anyone detecting it.
In less than 6 minutes you made something more interesting than latest Hollywood scifi movies
The fact they can make stuff like this and don’t is what I don’t get
@@a13william70 they have the money to make it for sure, but they rather go with cheaper content that's already proven to be successful
Agreed well done!
@@a13william70 Hollywood has two objectives. First make as much money as possible. Being progressives they think the American People are all imbeciles, and so make movies made for the lowest common denominator, but adjust the denomination downward by a few zeroes.
Second, being a pack of progressives beholden to Marxist ideology, and significant ownership by the Chinese Communist Party, they only make films that they think will spread their socialist religion. Which is why every Hollywood movie is like a lecture from a disdainful abusive public school teacher foisting communist talking points with impressive special effects, but dialog and plots made for the mentally retarded. They think that is, aught, could, should be the mainstream of entertainment. Instead we get another hollowed out film that uses established characters from existing franchises as tabula rasa masks absent any relationship to the original source material. Its propaganda, and expensive awful propaganda at that.
GREAT WORK !!!!!THANKS!!!
I’ve watched several sci-fi shorts in the past couple of days, and this is the first I’ve commented on. This is absolutely beautiful animation. It will live in my mind for a long time.
I couldn't agree more 👍
Simply jaw-dropping! The scale, visuals, score, pace, everything.
You can literally freeze every single shot and analyze it for days.
I like when the ship drops out of hyperspace and you can see the reflection of the planet on it’s shiny hull.
Quite agree, Humphrey.
Alright leave the shrooms alone..
A feel of Blade Runner two, this is pure class, with feeling, and emotion.
I definitely agree with you on the Blade Runner (2049) feel in both visuals and some of the background music. I was feeling that correlation about half way through the video.

I love the space dog astronaut suit. Glad to see our 4 legged friends will still be at our side as we explore the cosmos in search of alien life forms
Dog: Now how am I supposed to leave my mark when I'm stuck in this thing?
😂😂😂😂 morri!!
Yes...sounds we keep a humans inside of us...sure🙂👍🍀
Maybe it was a robo dog, programmed companion without the food or oxygen usage, far more sensible.
🔵 The enormity of the architecture is,....
....awe-inspiring!
Your blue signature is all over CZcams's comments.. 😊😊
Ah yes....I was trying to find the words to describe this feeling! :)
Champollion described it when he first walked through the ruins of Memphis: "‘It is the union of grace and majesty in the highest degree. We in Europe are only dwarfs. No nation, ancient or modern, has conceived the art of architecture on such a sublime, great and imposing style as the ancient Egyptians. They ordered everything to be done for people who are 100 feet high."
"Enormity" is a big word. Plot twist: The visitors were just really, really tiny.
@@ashemgold Another plot twist: Or maybe the inhabitants are just very tiny, but they can build objects and capsules that and house millions and millions of its own.
It's interesting to see so many inspirations through this short film, the monolith concept from 2001, some of the early structures looking like Chris Foss spaceships, the vaulted pyramid structures like in Blade Runner, the hint at a possible Matrix concept holding all the remaining beings, the floating objects like the aliens out of AI, the portal jumps like in Babylon 5, even the vastness of the megastructures making me think of the Krell from Forbidden Planet.
So many ideas pulled together nicely for a stunning piece of work, I know I went back and watched it in full screen, so much better.
Not to mention how the text on the tablet is very similar to the Vulcan language.
It made me think, what if we are really in pods like that in an advanced planet like that?
The artwork in this film is stunningly beautiful. I love the re-imagined spacesuit. Sleek and beautiful. I would like to see more!
I liked it but there was a lot of plagiarism 🙏
Agree 100% 👍🏻
@@sumchi3690 I don't see it, but you could indulge us!
Sure, not entirely original but definitely not plagiarism. A new spin on old ideas. It almost impossible to come up with something totally and completely original. Look at Star Wars. Lucas got inspiration from Asimov’s foundation and other older material
@@josephmarrero6538 True..fair enough.
Someone once told me that everyone plagiarizes from everyone to a certain degree.
There are only so many notes in a scale and so many chords in music.
This is brilliant visually and story-wise. I was hypnotized!
I disagree. I felt it was all scenery n no story. Except for the last line of the 'story'
I was hypnotized too!!
@@Talia.777 Indeed
I liked the dog. Makes sense that man would explore with a dog also in spacesuit.
Mans best friend.......Forever! 💪💪
Dogs are willing to follow , and help a good companion and good company
Without viewing all other replies.... I woud like to see the time that man and dog understands each other well enough that you could put a space suit on a dog like that and they would be as calm about it as that pooch.
@@CallakSkytower So would I. If I tried that with my cat I would be sliced to ribbons ;-)
You have no idea what’s actually in that spacesuit. That tail was rather prehensile. You’re also assuming the being in a spacesuit was human.
BUT HE DIDN'T WAKE THEM UP! HE DIDN'T GUESS AT THE NATURE OF THE CAPSULES! HOW MANY CENTURIES HAVE THEY WAITED FOR HIM AND HE HAS NO CLUE! WE NEED THE SECOND PART! PLEASE!
I looked like they advanced in capsule technology 3 times the one room had what looked like crude cryo pods and then a gold pod the rest were the gold then they changed to a silver one with a long stem on the top the closer to the obeliskhe got
Problem is, what would happen if he woke them up? Surely, there must be a reason for hibernation of the whole civilization. Wide spread degenerative illness maybe? Without knowing the problem and having the solution, waking up might be death sentence for them... Would you do that?
@@gobihoukou1 eu não faria, nestas condições.
@@gobihoukou1 I'd run back to earth, claim the planet as my own for a finders fee, and get a huge research expedition out there ASAP.
You never wake up an advanced people, have you not paid attention to science fiction, wake them up we get stuffed!!!. 😊.
It’s a real shame these brilliant short movies and not turned into full movies, I’m pulled into these short movies.
That's a real waste of art!
I agree :( Usually because it's hobbyists or university students making this, with only 2 or even one person. They just don't have the 100s of people and the massive budget for rendering that places e.g pixar has. as well as the time taken to make a feature length as their fulltime jobs.
Yes... right when I think I found it...I am on my way to search... all over again!
Part 2!!
Это шедевр. И черт, как теперь жить зная что не будет продолжения на час? Это же большая анимация, она обязана жить и иметь продолжение.
Я серьезно, для меня это уровень Интерстеллара. Ооооооочень хочется продолжения.
I could be wrong but that looked more like a 'world ship'. It carried the history of their civilization and probably left a clue to access it. They gave up too soon. OK, I'm a Sci-Fi fan and I absolutely loved it so I'm making my attempt to GET MORE!! This is outstanding work. Hats off to the ENTIRE crew.
They could still be in the eggs. Why assume they gave up on anything?
Exactly. The aliens are obviously in the pods...
The epic emptiness and majestic enormous structures are really amazing. It reminds me of the manga Blame!. The whole setting has a Lovecraftian feel to it, I really love it!
The visuals are so gorgeous and epic! I'd love to see this on the big screen in a franchise about a vast cinematic universe.
4:57 Vulcan writing.

Great story Laniakea is a real Super Cluster Of Galaxies meaning ‘Infinite Heavens’ Or ‘Paradise’.UFO Lore pictures this place as the Home of the Gods. They are waiting for us!!! Wonderful Short👽🚀🤓!!!!!!!!
"And yet my friend, we are here... All alone... All over again! '
Fantastic closing line and really evocative! Great presentation, superb visual design!
Loved this! 👍
I absolutely love this short story. It has an unbelievably epic feel to it. The scapes are phenomenal, as is the scale, and I love the ambiguity of the timeline. The musical score is reminiscent of Blade Runner, and it's atmospheric aloofness. Thank you, and congratulations to all involved in the making of it. Would love to see a follow up, but at the same time would love it to retain its enigmatic core.
The narrator sounds like Keannu Reeves. Who, apparently is a very nice bloke, so I've heard.
The alien writing looks like Vulcan writing from the 'Star Trek' franchise...
You’re totally correct on that. That’s the calligraphic form of their writing. Hope the artist got the copyrights to post that on there. Lol
@@MakoimS You can't copyright writing systems at least not in the U.S. It is specified right in the law.
I recognized it as Vulcan immediately.
Wow. Like Skyrim...an endless quest of solitude....only WAYYY more solitary.
Very well done! Hollywood, pay attention. This is the way to do it!
Every effort for the creation of the second part is highly appreciated…
I thought of Louis Wu exploring a Ringworld installation.....or perhaps an ancient Pak Library. Coolio.
Now that would be a great film.
I WANT A SERIES!!!! NOT A MOVIE BUT, A SERIES!!!! TEN SESSIONS OFF THE BAT.
This story has almost zero plot. The appeal of it is the visuals so I'm not sure that a series would be possible.
@@wordsofcheresie936 Have you ever watched the first pitch and pilotz of your favorite movies or shows? It's all about selling the imagination.
This story has SO MUCH room to explore. Literally the entire galaxy as he searches for answers. We can get a prequel at the end of the series that tells and shows exactly what happened to his ancestors.
You just need an IMMMMMMAGINATION
I'd watch every episode just for the ship alone.
I _like_ this film! It encapsulates the wonder I feel for the vastness of the universe. The ... aloneness ...
офигенно. Слежу за твоими работами уже очень давно, и был несказанно рад увидеть такую работу. Спасибо тебе за труды, друг!
What I like:
The music
The SFX
Grandiose structures and architecture
The Bladerunner-esque feeling
What I dislike:
The "telling" - you don't need to tell so much, just show.
The animations on man walking
I would love to see this reworked with more hands on deck to do this, because the feeling and the architecture is splendid.
Amazing desing and imagination. Underrated channel
The writing at the end looked like Vulcan writing to me. Stunning visuals, beautiful done and with an interesting story.

visually incredible - almost how I imagined Rendevous with Rama would look if adapted to the screen.
I agree. Nice call
Great short, I enjoyed every minute ... reminds me my favorie Rama's novel (A.C. Clarke)
Thank you

Reminded me of Silverburg’s Across a Billion Years.

Wow this travel is amazing and crazy... Alone always at the other side of the universe. But this Structure is powerless and fearless
The freshest, most inspiring visuals I have seen in many years. This is the stuff of award-winning CGI!
Bravo, bravissimo!
Like a mix between Alien, EVE Online, and Blade Runner...
Очень круто! Молодцы! Продолжение обязано быть, после такого старта!))) Удачи ребята! Планка установлена!)))
This was really well done short the graphics were great animation was perfect and spot on but the story was depressing as fuck
What always bothers me is when I see such awesome work, its only a short....this needs to be a MOVIE a full Length MOVIE....I see many works of short films and they astound me with the amount of detail and it is just mind blowing what these folks do..yes I am one of those 2 hundred thousand who wants more!!
Absolutly WONDERFUL !
Thank you for this amazing work 👏
Definitely would enjoy a continuation of the story. Love the concept of the space suits and the company of the “dog”.
Great job, thanks. Love the fact that he brought his "dog", a nice human touch.
The clever thing to do would be to make this a trailer which is also an opening scene or intro in another movie that answers all the questions thrown up by this short film.
I think a second part would be amazing. This was so well done. The scenery and the graphics are amazing. Keep up the good work.
i wish this was a feature film. hopefully in the future it could be. the effects were stunning and the story has many directions to go
Wow, one of the best inspiring movies outhere !
There's something very Bradburyish about huge empty cities and lonely monolithic structures with a single individual walking through it all. Beautiful CG.
This reminds me so much of some of those scifi-novels I read as a boy. You perfectly captured the melancholic, yet fascinating feeling of a vast, empty universe with just remnants of intelligent life... I love this so much!
The way he walks majestically on an alien planet is so amazing...😀😀
Челюсть отпала когда увидел финальные титры, неужели это было сделано в ХНТУ??? Обалдеть, это реально уровень!
@Dima Taran. Outstanding 👍. You gotta make this into a full-length feature film.
Это видео просто самый настоящий графический оргазм! Просто невероятно. Богата земля херсонская на талантов. Ждем продолжения, сюжетов и полного метра. Главное не экономить на сценаристах.
Stunning visuals and clearly the artists spent countless hours working. It's such a shame the voice work wasn't up to the same standards. Others may disagree but I found the voice unconvincing and it completely took me out of it.
It sounds like the protons from Starcraft. Just needed more effects and deeper to make it convincing.
Yeah - find a better voiceover talent; it would make it perfect. Script was ok but i'd suggest another editor's pass over it. Awesome otherwise!
Not just the voice, the story was a bit basic. No obstacle to overcome. More like looking out the window of your car as you travel. Too passive. The visuals were wonderful, but a very thin story, badly translated, won't be improved by better voice talent.
Not so much the dialogue but the delivery. Maybe better with no voice. But excellent work.
I liked the voiceover. It comes across as someone who has been alone, for a looong time. Finally finding something of significance and trying to record his thoughts and findings for posterity but having trouble because he’s so unused to speaking his thoughts out loud I’ve often wondered what it would be like, to wander through an ancient, dead civilization. Where I was the ONLY lifeform left.
I was just shortly imagined I'd really wander around like this guy - put a huge shouder on my back...incredible fantasy this guy Dima has ,-)
Absolutely FANTASTIC ! I see hints of 'City in the Stars', 'Forbidden Planet' and 'Rendezvous with Rama'...
Had to share with #1 Son and watch again! This really hits the spot Dima! Thanks & subbed.
@@DimaTaran If there was ever a talent waiting to finally and properly deliver unto us Rendezvous With Rama, it is YOU, Dima.
You'll understand when you read the book....your imagination will revel in it.
Not the best quality but for a one man project its amazing. Love the geometry of the planet. The story is ok. Obvs the aliens decided to give up on the real life existence and toke a big nap instead. But I kinda love that feeling of cosmic loneliness. Its like arraving at the party when everyone have already gone home.
The message that was sent out was a distress signal, so I don't think that they simply got addicted to VR. However, I am guessing that they are asleep in those pods. Maybe that were hit with an uncurbable plague and they went into stasis before they died in the hope that someone with better medical technology can revive them and cure them.
All those life-pods presumably occupied, perhaps waiting for a specific time to re-emerge after some threat is long gone. IDK. This reminds me of J. Michael Straczynski’s Babylon 5 series that aired after the first series ended where several worlds were found with all the inhabitants tucked away in stasis deep underground until the threat had finally dissipated.
The architectural accomplishments of this race is quite beautiful. Gorgeous imaginative work by the artist of this video. I’d love to see the story of who they are and why they had built this stasis facility, assuming those are indeed stasis pods.
Beautifully done! Invokes a sense of wonder paired with a realization of just how small we humans are in a vast, impersonal universe. Would love to see a part two. Thankyou.
This just blew me away, I can’t begin to express my admiration for your work. Thank you.
Our fateless leaders couldn't even consider the possibility. Great video. Thx.
There was an article a few days ago in the Jerusalem Post alluding to a galactic Federation that has been known about for years this is now confirmation from mainstream media about astronauts from other planets visiting us
@@anarchytelevision8445 Seems like I read something about that back in the 60s. In truth, there are no secretes because everything comes out sooner or later.

11 out of 5 stars. Anxiously chomping at the bit for Part 2. PASS THE POPCORN, BABY!!!!!
Dear creator of this emotional paradigm, rooted in what defines us in our perpetual endeavour to seek hope vs. perceived realities: B R A V O !
Very Amazing Visuals and Vibe!
So,... start pushing buttons,... wave your hand over something,... don't just sit there! This is a really nice story and CGI piece - you know it needs an ending - some bit of tension,... a villain or problem that needs to be overcome,... or maybe a twist,... this guy isn't from earth - he is from another star system,... it doesn't always have to be about us!
The score had me entranced. It really set the tone for the larger than life visuals.
Golden sunlight reflecting off the structures adds to a mystical realism. What a great job. Inspiring!
That was beautiful. The dog was uniquely genius...a symbol of companionship.
Great visuals and storytelling!
I’m nobody, and I mean nothing to this channel, but the narration style sort of takes away from the absolute magnificence of this incredibly beautiful film
Beautiful aesthetic with such detailed backgrounds, clearly a lot of love went into this project ... and it was totally worth it.
This is breathtaking, storyline as visuals and general atmosphere. I loved it and I'm definitely looking forward to part 2 !
Love it! Very stylish. Has a Ralph McQuarrie/Jim Burns/Chris Foss feel about it.
I know I have already posted, but the more I watch this, the more I wonder about the meta story here... In my previous post I noted the evocative nature of the closing narrative.
This definitely resonates with my own concepts as it relates to reincarnation, and as well my belief that the Universe is indeed 'Holographic' in nature.
Interesting too, that many new scientific breakthroughs and discoveries seem to be supporting this possibility.
This film just gets better with each subsequent viewing!
P. S.. Oddly enough, the narrator reminds me of Jonathan Del Arco, who played the part of "Hugh" in the "I Borg" episode of Star Trek TNG.
Hoping that part two will become a reality soon...
the textures, the movement of the animation, the apearance of that absolutely cool corvette shuttle in the beginning........and the design...it is really cool........very artistic, thank you...can we please have more?
This film short is superbly done and it has a Bladerunner 2049 flair. Great job overall!.
Man and dog, each other's friend ... even exploring other worlds ... I like that ,,,
Amazzing job, please continue! Happy 2021!
Imagine a civilization sending out a distress signal.Only for it to be received centuries too late. Also it is always nice to see C.G.I. being used for something other than a G rated cash grab. :)
Arthur C. Clarke wrote an amazing story about a civilization that built monuments before their star went nova so that other civilizations would know that they had existed. The humans find one of these monuments that records all that they had done. The astrophysicist on the ship realizes that the nova that destroyed the civilization would have been visible on earth in the year zero and that it had been recorded in the bible as the star of Bethlehem that announced Jesus' birth. I believe that the story was called, "The Star".
Here is a link to the story. It is only four pages.

The aliens have gone into a VR world and their physical bodies are in the pods. The big plot hole would be that the aliens would leave robots/AIs to watch the pods and prevent anyone from disturbing them.
Love that you have a dog in space! I can’t imagine humans leaving our fur buddies behind when space travel becomes commonplace
