    If you have stationary belt sander with horrible dust collection like this HF model then stick around for this build. I used a 4 inch port and some scrap plywood to put this together. It's not real pretty but it works like a champ! If you have any questions please comment below or contact me via email or the socials.

    I was wanting to make a dust collector for my disc/belt sander, and my first attempt was a disaster. I saw your video and saw where I had messed up. I made a collector similar to yours and attached my shop vac to it. It works like a charm. Thanks for getting the cobwebs out of my brain and showing where I went wrong and how to correct it.

    Excellent solution, finally a comprehensive solution. Everybody else is modifying little plastic pieces for their shop vac, I love that you used a full 4" port!

    Dan, I could have used this yesterday! What a great set up and I may just copy it. I had 10 small hardwood pieces to sand and dust got everywhere. Usually, I sand and joint outside, but it is still to cold to do that. And, for some reason, I completely spaced out on using my fine dust filter above me. I did remember to were my mask but I still blew a log out of my nose though, lol. This will work great, thank you!!

    Nice build, but I think a screen should be over the dust port hole. If a person let go of the work piece it would enter the dust collection system causing possible problems. Again nice build.

    • @DanPrudlow
      @DanPrudlow  Před 6 lety

      Thanks. My dust collection is 2 stages so anything large would never make it to where it could cause damage...but I agree if using a single stage system you would want some sort of screen there. Thanks for watching! 👍🏻

    • @jamesguerrieri949
      @jamesguerrieri949 Před 6 lety +2

      It is not only the damage potential, but there is the possibility of it getting wedge in a bend in the pipe and causing one to have to disassemble fixed piping to clear. Much easier to just add some hardware cloth over the port and be done with it. In the end it is your equipment to do as you please. Again a nice build.

    I have that same sander and dust problem. 1st of all I liked your video. It was right to the point and very helpful. I would like to use your design if that's OK with you. After using it now for some time are you still happy with the results and is there anything you would have done different if you were to rebuild it? I look forward to hearing back from you before I get started and Thanks for sharing the video.

    • @DanPrudlow
      @DanPrudlow  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the compliments! Much appreciated. You are absolutely welcome to use the design. I think the only thing I would try to do is make the little table for vertical sanding a bit bigger and then better secure the sander in place. Whenever I use it vertical the pressure against the belt tents to push the sander backward which is annoying. Fairly easy fix…I just thought the weight of the tool would keep it in place but that hasn’t been the case. Thanks for watching!

    Just ran across this. I just bought the same saw and your approach seems like the best I've seen. I'm in. What intrigued me too was the hosing and porting. Where did you find your hose, port and that thingy with the trigger looking mechanism?

    • @DanPrudlow
      @DanPrudlow  Před 3 lety +1

      The hose and such is all from Rockler woodworking from their Dust Right line of accessories. I have ports on all my machines and then I just move the hose around to each as needed. I don’t have the ability to run pipe to each machine so this solution works quite well. Thanks for watching! 👍🏻

      Thanks for watching the video. Unfortunately I don’t have any plans available. With my day job and family I don’t have enough spare time to make plans for things. Maybe someday.

  • @CheveeDodd

    My harbor freight sander (same model) came with an end cap that traps that dust. I 3D-printed an adapter for my dust collection to fit the port that was already there.

    • @DanPrudlow
      @DanPrudlow  Před 6 lety

      +Chevee Dodd mine came with a plastic piece to go at the end but it didn’t fit well and didn’t seem to stop a lot of the airborn particals that kick up off the end of the belt. Thanks for watching.

  • @utherpendragon6955
    @utherpendragon6955 Před rokem

    I have an old Craftsman bench sander. I put a vacuum intake under it and a flat vacuum attachment in front, and that gets most of it, but some of the dust rides the belt on the underside and spits out the other side where the belt resurfaces. Do you think the vacuum on your design would prevent this too?
    Also, why did you glue some joints but not others?

    • @DanPrudlow
      @DanPrudlow  Před rokem

      I still get a little bit of dust coming off the belt on the other end but it’s pretty minor. With the big 4 inch hole it’s moving a lot of air past the sander so It does pretty well overall. As for gluing some versus not…I probably got in a hurry and skipped the glue…I don’t recall exactly. 🙂

  • @unique_useful_unmatchable

    I m looking for a system with the use of air filter, that sucks up wood dust that flies while sanding wood with motored sanding machine. What tools/machine will be required? Please help

    • @DanPrudlow
      @DanPrudlow  Před 3 lety

      Search for a dust collector. These all usually have some sort of filter. If you want something smaller that connects to a smaller sander look for a shop-vac or dust extractor. Hope this helps.
