If it’s not tensioned after tying, it is vulnerable to untying. Typically from hitting or rubbing against something. I personally only back it up if I’m attaching a live load, meaning a harness or rescue litter.
Nice tutorial. Fwiw there is a faster(simpler) way to throw a bowline around a ring/ object, etc. Its basically an overhand knot in the standing and bitter end, you collapse it and it becomes the "rabbit hole". Very fast, Mexican fisherman taught me this years ago, commercial fishing, everything is about speed. Felt bad about my lousy description...this explains czcams.com/video/PcjUSDG4jEg/video.html
Best bowline tutorial on the net!
Wow, thanks!
What's the use case for adding the backup?

It's so simple to tie the Yosemite finish it's the only way I tie a bowline!
