Hitches are not knots. They're hitches. There is, in fact, no such thing as a 'hitch knot.'
When I do a video of a hitch, I put knot in the title to help it come up in searches. That being said, the definition of a hitch is; “A knot that secures a rope to another object.” That’s from the Ashley Book of Knots, published in 1944 and considered the knot tying bible. If a knot is intertwined cordage then wouldn’t it make sense that a hitch or bend falls into that same category? You brought up a good topic for discussion and maybe it is one others on here can chime in on?
@@knotknut so you add extra words to drive engagement. Might as well put frozen star wars Heineken in there as well.
Why not just a bowline
This knot can cinch tighter than a bowline so it is preferred by some.
Oi tudo bem
O perdedor
Looks like a 🐓
New video is the perfect format. Thank you for fixing the issue
Uggh!! I don’t know what made it different, thanks again for the input. I will keep trying/making them how this one is.
Hell yeah 😎
I will post a video tomorrow of a slipped bowline, makes it really easy to untie
Very clear instructions. Rare indeed. BUT adding supporting information (like uses and limitations) will certainly help.
Unfortunately with short there isn’t enough time. Moving forward I will have a short and long video for each knot on my channel
Great, clear video! Many thanks
Glad you liked the video, there are many more on my channel. Thanks for watching
Just a slip knot with a running line , perfect , great explanation !
i think the emo kids will like this vid

Wish I could, sorry
Out of interest, any reason this is a portrait orientation in a landscape video? It makes watching these on the phone very hard since it makes the video very zoomed out.
I didn’t know it was doing that, I’ve been using a different editing program, thanks for letting me know. I will try to fix that issue.
We need more than how to tie the knot, we need applications. What can this hitch do that a bowline can't do?
This particular knot can cinch up tight where the bowline can only get snug at best. I don’t usually put uses of the knots in the videos because what I might use it for may be a lot different then what others might use it for. It is also tuff to fit everything into a one minute video unfortunately.
sweet
Thanks for this 👍 Informative & useful 👏
Thnx
Magic! Never gets old seeing this. 🙏

Very easy demonstration! Thank you
Glad you liked 😊
Wow that’s backwards but it works
@@hosoiarchives4858 this way seems easier to me but there is a lot of ways to tie this one. Hope you like the videos
I don’t know why I keep fkning this up
That’s a nice ballin

saludos desde Venezuela exelenticimo Dios te bendiga grandemente
Better if a little knot at the end of the rope it prevént to slide if many pressure aplied
On my channel I show the bowline tied with a Yosemite backup, addressing exactly what you are talking about.
@@knotknut thanks!!
Maybe add 10 seconds on the best application for the knot? Thx!
This was awesome and so clear!!! Thank you for going slow so it's super easy to follow!!!
You're so welcome!
Haul on the bowline the for and main to bowline. Haul on the bowline the bowline haul!!!
Haul on the bowline, it's a far cry from Liverpool. Haul on the bowline the bowline haul!
ขอบคุณ❤
thanks
A properly tightened Constrictor won’t budge if ‘slipped’ as shown. A snug/loose constrictor is nearly useless. Constrictors are ‘binding’ knots, not hitches or whatever.
Best way to do it. I like it
Just a shoutout to this video I come back every so often for a reminder. Thanks!!!
Glad it’s useful for you, this is exactly why I made this channel.
This is how I tie up my horses
Yes I like my own comments
That’s a use for this knot I never thought of. Do you use a bight when you make your wrap so you can release the knot easily?
@@knotknutyes
I’m a rigger and I’m doing exactly the same way and I think is the easiest way to do it and quickest 👍
Is this called a double fisherman knot? but caught the other end of the loop on the inside of it?
Yes it is the fisherman’s knot. Tied this way makes it easier to keep the knot out of the way when wrapping it around a rope.
I've dozens of videos on how to tie a bowline and mind you, I forgot how it's done. Hahaha. I think this one right here is one of the easiest way I've seen as far as I can remember. I like how it's done with a slipknot? This is easier than the round the tree and back to the hole steps.
Glad you like the video. Of all the ways to tie a bowline I find myself using this way the most
This is a sheet bend! Nicely tied 👏👏👏the knot to use if the ropes have different diameters. The reef knot is the most common way to join two ropes together but....... if they are different diameters the knot will fail!......great vid
I actually use this all the time. I didnt realise the knot had a name.
I would like to see how easy it is to undo the knot as well. For me, that’s part of the magic of knowing the 🪢 knots! ❤️
I agree with you, tying is only part of the fun with knots.
Беседочный и двойной беседочный, самое главное разочарование, что данные два узла служат для связывание верёвок разной толщины, ну и отсутствие контрольных узлов...😢
You mean “sheep’s bend? “
It is very common to mis-pronounce the name of this knot. The technical name is "Sheet" Bend. It is also sometimes referred to as a "Becket". "Sheet" comes from the original use in nautical knots referring to it being formally tied in a sheet(piece of running rigging that trims a sail). ***ABK.
No he means sheet bend the correct name for this knot
Oh I thought I remember it being a sheep's bend in the boy scout handbook from the 80's. I'm glad I got that cleared up. Is there any knot called a sheep's bend?
There is the sheepshank, a very different knot. I think I have called it a sheep bent a few times when talking fast, kinda flows better lol. I looked knots up in ABK and couldn’t find any with sheep in the name other than the sheepshank. Does not mean that there isn’t a knot with that name
@@knotknut Thanks for your kind reply, I could have asked with better manners but it’s crazy that I would look through that Boy Scout Handbook at night to fall asleep sometimes and I love information and remember the name. It’s interesting how names change based on geographical location, culture and language. Well done!
Advantage over a single loop? Thanks!
A possible advantage might be having an attachment point for a load and a separate attachment for a tagline. Maybe someone on here has a good use for this knot.
I agree all knots need to be dressed and set, this knot is one that dresses and sets simply by tensioning the legs of rope. Obviously the knot has to be tied correctly to begin with. Do you think it would be beneficial to tie a few knots incorrectly and then dress them to show the difference? As you know the figure 8 on a bight gets tied wrong and not dressed correctly a lot. Just looking for a little feedback on what ppl want to see. Thank you
That would be interesting. I have noticed that it's rather common to neglect this topic, even among trusted channels as hownot2 when they bench test knots. If the knots are tied sloppy, the test result may not be reliable enough. You will probably get less creeping with correctly dressed knots and the heat created might change the results.
Yes maybe not on every one but ones that are tend to confuse people. Also show the mistakes at the end instead of the beginning so folk who don't care don't have to fast forward to the correct knot guide 😊 Also i think if you have suggestions on how and where these are useful could also be given before the mess up portion. I would do a clipped short of the proper know and note at the end you have a long form that shows common mistakes.
Que no é esse.
Set and dress?
Pulling the bight and both legs of rope away from each other sets this knot and then pulling the two legs away from each other dresses it. The butterfly knots are great this way.
@@knotknut With all respect, I disagree. Every knot should be properly set and dressed. Especially knots used when climbing. Butterfly knots are very useful when tree climbing. It only takes a couple of seconds more to complete a well tied knot. Tighten the strands nicely is not so hard. Your knot tying instructions are very well made though.
Lo hice en dos intentos, gracias por enseñar con paciencia
No problem, glad it helped ya. Thanks for watching.
The whistle comes from your brain trying to tie that baby! ❤
The first time I saw this knot, the gentleman tied it behind his back. 🤪
