Christian Bale is my favorite Batman actor for one big reason: when the Aurora theater shooting happened here in Colorado, he actually came out here with his wife to visit with the victims, and even led a prayer at the memorial that had been set up near the site where the shooting happened. A lot of people like to believe that this happened after someone posted a petition asking him to come, but the timing of his visit led my husband to believe that he had already booked a flight here as soon as he heard the news. I am so glad that he showed up, as it was a very upsetting time for everyone here in Colorado, and not just the Batman fans.

The storytelling in Batman Begins is elegant and brilliant. The flashbacks to Bruce's experiences as a child and as a young man are integrated flawlessly into the film. Moreover, while I would probably have chosen someone else to play Batman, I would have been so wrong. Christian Bale gives an extraordinary performance that proved superheroes could be dramatic and complex; that they don't have to be played with a wink to the audience. Everything about this film is exquisite and I would even say it's even better than The Dark Knight.
A lot of people will reflexively rank The Dark Knight as the best of the trilogy, largely because Heath Ledger gave a haunting, method performance. But, well, most good actors can chew scenery. Would Ledger have won an academy award if he had not died after filming? Maybe, but I think his chances would have been much lower because academy voters would have assumed that Ledger had a long career ahead of him and that he would have other brilliant performances that the academy could reward him for. I also think Gotham is just too bright in The Dark Knight. The city just doesn't look as menacing and stylized as it was in Batman Begins. Finally, while the screenplay is fine, it's just not as smooth, exquisite and logical as that of the first film.

One of my biggest gripes with the dark knight is the visual aesthetic of the film. In Batman Begins Gotham looks like a comic book setting come to life. Wayne Tower has like a Bronze Top to it, the monorail system looks unique and as those big bronze arches over the tracks not to mention the Narrows looks like a run-down grimey Smoky part of the city. But then when you get to the Dark Knight it just looks like Chicago. Wayne Tower doesn't have the bronze copper pointed top it's just a square black building and you don't even see the monorail system in the whole film. The city just looks too clean in that movie.

While the first two Burton Batman movies will always be my favorite and Keaton will forever be my Batman, I think Begins is likely the best "Batman" movie in terms of its story and telling the origin of Batman. It doesn't capture the fear and and mythic nature of Batman amongst the press and criminals the way Burton's introduction did, but it's a better all around told story.
Pattinson I think is the second best Batman behind Keaton in terms of his portrayal. Bale's voice was just far too exaggerated, and made worse in TDK when they added post production effects to make it deeper.

@@omegarugal9283 I don’t have a problem with violence in the movie, mind you. But there was way more than the strong man. He mows goons down with machine gun fire from the batwing. He blows people up with bombs and missiles. He throws that dude down the bell tower. I’m pretty sure he threw a guy off the roof at one point. And doesn’t he kill the joker? I’m going by memory, but I feel like he grappled him so he’d fall to his death. Anyway, it was indeed pretty violent. It’s just dumb to try and cancel the movie for that reason.

Minty, you need help. You need to see someone who can help you through your issues and remember... just say no to drugs!
The Batman voice was brilliant and practical. Batman wears the mask to protect his loved ones from repercussions. So if he used his regular voice it wouldn't take too long before people could identify who he is without the mask. By disguising his voice, he's also reducing the likelihood of having his secret identity found out. The only surprise is that nobody thought of sooner.

There’s a running joke about how every time a new actor’s announced to play Batman, there’s a public uproar. For the most part, this has been true. But, when Bale was announced for the role, in 2004, everyone collectively said “hell yeah.” The first installment of the Dark Knight Trilogy dropped in 2005, and he never once failed audience expectations. Not the latest or most popular Batman movie. But, to me, Batman Begins is the best one yet.

The success of the dark, melancholy "Batman (89)," which led to the even darker "Batman Returns," that caused outrage by morality groups (and McDonalds) because the film was too dark, violent, (and blue slimy); an outrage that forced the franchise to become a true monstrosity and ultimately collapse. Put this reality together with the successful reboot of "Batman Begins" which returns Batman to the dark, melancholy, and appropriately violenced form that had contributed to the success of Batman on the big screen in the first place; all goes to show a fundamental truth: morality groups are more likely to cause incredible damage than be socially, economically, or even morally helpful; (just look at the U.S. 1920's era of "Prohibition").

The suit in Begins is INFINITELY better than the Dark Knight upgrade, and so was the balance in his Batman voice. It wasn't too insane, garbled, etc. Although The Dark Knight is a superior film, I wish the suit wasn't made to where his head looked like a giant bobble head and he still retained the Begins aesthetic (and they didn't crank up the rumble on the voice to 11 in post). Begins is a very good film, still. The editing is a bit too fast at times and so it could have benefitted from letting some scenes breathe a bit more. However, it sure did reinvigorate the Batman in cinema.
