  • Lasagna made in a pressure cooker takes only 7 minutes. It has a wonderful taste, just like the baked version but the consistency is much looser. Still a great quick meal when you're in a hurry.

    if you take the entire pot out and set it on the counter for about 10 minutes, the dish cools down and the lasagna solidifies, so that when you serve it, it comes out perfectly.

      Hi Tom, this was a complete failure "because" the cheeses mixed with the sauce which is why it's such a strange color (I've assumed). Are you certain of your statement? Has this happened to you? That would have been a simple solution to this. Would they have separated if left to sit for 10 minutes?

      when do layered casseroles in the pressure cooker, Ihave found that they have a tendancy to fall apart, partly because it is awkward to pull them out of the round dish, but also, primarily, because of a combination of the intense heat, and moisture. Think of what happens when you bake a lasagna normal, and then immediately cut into it and serve it, it has a tendancy to shmooze out and be a bit messy. But, what happens the next day, after it's been in the fridge. cuts perfect. reason: the heat has diminished, the moisture has consolidated into the pasta and the other ingredients. Same principle I find applies with pressure cooker layered casseroles. So, here's the technique I've used: I cook my dish for 8 minutes or whatever, then release, then layer the cheeses on top, and lid it, not under pressure, even pull the plug (there is plenty of residual heat), once the cheese is melted, lets say ten minutes, then take the whole pot, out of the pressure cooker, and place it on the counter (go ahead and put the lid back on if you want), then, wait about 10-15 minutes. This will give the dish, and the container, time to cool down. Once it's cooled down, the dish will be much easier to manage. I like to cut pie slices through it with a knive, and then also, I use a spatula, and not a spoon, to pull out the wedge. Often times, I will use another spatula, on the other side, for the first serving. Hope that helps.

    Thanks for making this, I recently bought an Instant Pot and am loving all the tastes that are coming out of it. Now others in my family are getting the same model (Duo60) as they were so impressed with it's performance and time saving, and loving it too! I tried your recipe and it turned out tasting good, I experimented with changing a few ingredients, but that's the fun of experimenting lol. At least your efforts give us newbies an idea of how to start...ignore the snotty know-it-alls... no one likes trollish comments or cares what they say and any jackass can hide behind a screen name! You took the time and effort to make good videos, and I appreciate you for doing that.
    I used Great Value noodles---they did not cook enough in 8 minutes (still could break/snap them with a spoon), so I then added about a 1/2 C more of water around the rim and used a spoon along the pot's side wall to get H2O to the bottom of the pot, then cooked another 8 min on HI, let natural release and then let sit for10 min. more on warm setting - the noodles were now cooked enough with some spots al dente, but most of them were nice and soft. So appearance wise it can not resemble traditional Lasagne, but it tasted similar, so who cares. The ingredients flavors do get very mixed together despite layering, so you will not get the isolated tastes of the cheeses and layers experienced when cooked traditionally. That being said, the family still gave it a thumbs up. They also suggested that I re-name this dish from "pressure cooker lasagna", to the new name of "Cheesy gooey lasagna-ish glop" . So the new name better describes what to expect, and the purists can go fly their snippy kites, while the rest of us enjoy a rich, rib-coating, tummy filling meal of Cheesy gooey lasagna-ish glop! Manga :)

      Milli Denney Hi Milli, thanks for subbing! I've had 3 pc failures after only a few uses. I do NOT recommend the Elite brand..8 and 10 quart sizes both failed and the company would not honor the 1 year warranty. The pc's took 4 trips to California, each time returning to me worse than when I shipped. Wolfgang Puck lasted several years and I would rate it as a good one. Also Cuisinart has a pretty good track record but I've never owned one so I couldn't recommend it. I also cannot recommend the Power Pressure Cooker since I've never owned one. Right now I have a Cooks Essential and the only one that has actual 15 psi, and medium pressure of 7. something and a low pressure of 2. something. I love this machine and so far so good. The pc in this video was an Elite, that failed shortly after. Thank for the sub and the comment. I'm looking forward to hearing from your pc adventures!

Its very simple not a lot of buttons. My friend has the XL it seem to work fine it just does more than the Cuisinart because it has a timer that you can set ahead of time and also has a slow cooker mode the Cuisinart is just a pressure cooker can not set ahead hrs. But I still love the one I got. Hopes this helps you.

    I used your video as a guide. Just made it, as if I was baking lasagna in my oven from recipe on lasagna noodle carton. Followed your measurements of ingredients: used 1.5 lbs. ground meat, small diced onion, 24 oz. jar pasta or marinara sauce, 24 ozs. ricotta cheese, grated pecorino/romano cheese. Add quarter inch of water. Layered in pot, some meat mixture to cover bottom, noodles, cheese mixture, meat mixture, noodles (break noodles to fit), and repeat layers. Ending with meat mixture on top of 4th layer. Cook time 10 minutes, quick release, put layer of mozzarella cheese on top. Let it sit 10 minutes, set lid back on pot or cover pot, cheese melts. Plus letting it sit helps to thicken, does not come out runny. Cut mine into quatered size pieces, 8 servings. Tried it without water on the bottom, did not seem to be any different. For all the harsh comments, they need to stop. PC make cooking really easy and food comes out better when steamed cooked. My husband has a Digital Smoker, which I use that meat to finish a dish in my PC. So delicious, the favor is unbelievable, when the two are combined.

    I was watching this great video and thinking the same thing as Jon Treadway. The PPCXL will let you saute the meat and onions first, add the sauce and some water, mix then just remove 4/5ths of it. You only need to make another bowl dirty to do this! Not every pressure cooker has that feature, so use what you have and enjoy the results!

  • @TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive32

    The problem or sometimes benefit of pressure cookers is they contain the water. The with that is when you heat things up they tend to release the water in them making your food soggy. As a result when using a pressure cooker you have to really precise about the amount of water you add. Too little and you burn it, too much and it is soggy.

    We all learn from our mistakes! I have a new pressure cooker and cannot wait to try lasagna. I did try a pasta dish once, but my pressure cooker didn't come up to pressure. • @Handsthatcook
      @Handsthatcook  Před 9 lety

      Hi Melissa, No pressure cooker will come to pressure if you don't add water. They (meaning pc's) must have water to form pressure, usually, depending on the size of the pc, it's 1-1/2 cups to 2 cups and it can be subbed with a broth but not a sauce. A sauce is too thick. This is why this recipe called for the water at the bottom of the pot. Thanks for watching!

    • @debbymcginnis4568
      @debbymcginnis4568 Před 9 lety

      I made it last night and it did not come to pressure either I think the problem is not to spread the cheese all the way to the edges because the cheese blocks most of the steam cause it is dense and all the heat stays at the bottom and pressure cooker gets to hot and keeps shutting off without building pressure I kept trying to restart it got the same results. Husband took spacula around edges and moved cheese and it started to build pressure but still not enough. so keep cheese more to the center.

      @Handsthatcook  Před 9 lety

      Debby McGinnis Deb, it didn't build pressure because there wasn't enough water in it to build pressure. When it cut off and your hubby pulled the cheese away from the sides, you should have added 1/2 cup more water. If it still won't come to pressure, add another 1/2 cup. I'm sure that's what the problem was. Don't add the water on top but pull recipe away from the side and pour aiming for the bottom. I'm 90% positive it will work if you do this. Good luck and don't forget to use noodles between each layer of cheese and meat to separate them.

      +Teresa Maue Hi Teresa This lasagna failed because I loaded it wrong. I started out layering it correctly but somehow got turned around during it. It looked all mixed together but it tasted delicious. I keep saying I'm going to do a remake but I haven't gotten around to it. I like using sausage because it eliminates using so much spice. I've received some pretty nasty comments about this video and that I shouldn't have posted it.....that may be true but I felt some would want to see what happens when you layer wrong and take it out too soon. It needs to set a while with no heat, probably about 20 minutes. Thank you for your comment with no insults and thank you for watching!! Linda

      I don't like to wear makeup (most of the time) and when I want to make a video I don't want to go to any extra trouble getting myself ready. I just prefer to be anonymous. And you have the picture I use of myself from many years ago when makeup wasn't so much a necessity. Use your imagination, add about 30 years and you have a mental picture of me but with grey hair of course, LOL!! Sometimes I think about surprising all of you with a cameo video, but I always talk myself out of it. I don't think I'll ever be on camera...but who knows, at some point I may. It's nice to be thought of as adorable.....a term I haven't been described as for a long while, LOL.....I'd like to keep it that way!

    This type of dish takes tweeking until you get it like you want in a pressure cooker. Only two to feed here so I purchased a smaller vessel to place in my XL. I'll prepare my lasagna normally with layers etc, in smaller vessel, place in pressure cooker. cook as directed except water in larger pot not in with food. Makes a smaller amount and more like oven baked. It is flavor that counts not looks actually. If it tastes terrible no one will eat no matter how perfect it looks.

I have done a manicotti in my pressure to die for and it did take about 4 min. longer than recommended but is so so good! Called for 10 but closer to the 15 min. mark. ***** I am an aspiring cook and am sure you could teach me a thing or three. I am sure it tasted good but as you know, eating is a sensory overload. If it does not look good, it will not taste good. The reverse is never true though! If it looks good and tastes like crap, then it just tastes like crap. I am rambling but again, this dish needs a firm top that is dry to the touch. Some things cannot or should not be cooked in a pressure cooker. BTW, I have a pressure fryer. You read that right. It is a pressure fryer, not a pressure cooker. The difference is that I can put oil into my cooker and pressure fry it. This is NOT safe in an ordinary pressure cooker. It can also be used as a pressure cooker. The difference in price is HUGE.

      A+ for creativity/imagination, however I still stand by my comment that a pressure cooker is not intended for everything. Lasagne or “lasagne al forno” translates to lasagne from the oven. A culinary professional would die at the sight of this as this in not the way the dish is meant to be cooked and don’t get me started on if you would show this to an Italian!
      Bottom line is pressure cookers are great and are an awesome tool in order to cook foods that would usually take ages to cook in sometimes half the time. However, some dishes are only intended to be cooked in a certain way, namely lasagne al forno- I mean the name says it all.
      This is not a rant, just an observation from a self-professed lasagne lover

      +Christine Wilson --seriously, why so pompous...is no one allowed to experiment or try variations that do not conform to your rules...just stop it already with the entitled princess behavior, no one cares. I seriously doubt any Italians or culinary professionals were killed or in any way damaged by this video..lol...dramatic much?

      Christine Wilson BTW Christine, I AM Italian. I told everyone the mistakes I made to make this recipe work, and it will if you follow the advice. Sorry dear that this is so displeasing to you. It looked bad because of the mistakes but the taste was wonderful. Linda

    This is the most horrible looking lasagna I have ever seen--might as well have put it all in a blender! OMG!

      Hi Chad, it does look bad but tasted just as it should have. I made the mistake of not separating the meat sauce and cheese sauce with the lasagna noodles..I've corrected that on this video page. Happy Thanksgiving!!

      ***** Well I am new to pressure cooking but am a fast learner and am figuring that while these devices are great for certain meals, pasta type dishes don't seem to work well with these things--lasagna should be cooked in an oven so it can hold its firm shape I think. Pressure cookers often make pasta soft and who wants soft lasagna? Perhaps we need that Wolfgang Puck pressure oven....!

      I have seen lasagna done in a pressure cooker perfectly so I know it can be done. I also have done a pasta meal in a pc that came out just as it should have so I have to disagree with you there......and I have the Wolfgang Puck pressure oven..better than a regular toaster oven but no box of cherries.

      ***** Well in that case I think you should do a complete review of that Wolfgang Puck oven. I searched all over the web and there are 67 reviews--all from Wolfgang direct or another 30 that are fake shill ads. Only ONE review by a real person and they didn't say much. YOU can be the first (although from the fact it heats the kitchen I don't think I want one even if you can buy it at bed bath beyond for only $200 with coupon.) Why not give it a shot and let us see how it works. (not that well and fast if you didn't use it for that lasagna?)

      I've never thought about doing a review but since you've mentioned it, after the holiday (maybe during, I don't know yet) I'll do the review for you. I'll make a whole chicken with potatoes, carrots, onions and whatever else I might have. Then you can judge for yourself if the price is worth it.

    Why one would use a pressure cooker rather than an oven for lasagna is beyond me. This looks terrible. And sloppy to serve to boot. Thumbs down big time.

      Hi Jim, flavors infuse in a pressure cooker and there is a huge difference in cooking time. It tastes just as good as if it had been baked in an oven. I have explained this was a failure and the reasons why so why would you continue to criticize? It isn't necessary. It may look sloppy but it tasted good.

      Carl Milner Because Carl, this could happen to any one of you, after you've gone to the expense and taken YOUR time to make a video. You all have a right and maybe some curiosity as to what might happen. That's why.
