I think Tissot PRX is a game changer, a beautiful stainless steel bracelet watch that actually could be bought at a reasonable price with swiss automatic movement with decent power reserve, you get more than what you paid for.

Agreed. I tried one on last week and was very impressed with the looks, quality, and how comfortable it was on the wrist. You can easily get them at a decent discount as well. The Jeweler offered me 15% off the bat and I’m sure I could have gotten more if I was a buyer that day.

Purchased a PRX Powermatic 80, had it on the wrist for 6 weeks straight. Had to put it in the fault just so my other pieces could feel some appreciation again. Easy the best value on the market. Only mild remark is the resemblance of the Royal Oak, had 2 instances of people commenting on the ridiculous expensive watch I was wearing, while it's anything but.

In terms of the basic premise I have to agree wiith Adrian’s second choice, BB58. Of all those it has had the biggest impact on the rest of the watch world, really giving way to a trend towards smaller dive watches, and perhaps watches in general. It is the only one of the selection of those excellent watches that has really influenced outside the brand, as well as inside the brand with other lines (see Pelagos 39 and GMT Pro).

My choice is going to be the Grand Seiko Snowflake ( it's older than 10 years, but only just and I think after Adrian's VC, I can take some liberties 😅😂) . This was the watch that introduced Grand Seiko to the rest of the world. It not only legitimized the brand, which until then was seen as an overpriced Seiko, but it also changed the consumers perceptions of value for money and their expectations from the watch industry. Truly a game changer.

Studio underdog is a game changer. Designed as a lockdown project. Not taking itself too seriously and having the obvious idea (but incredibly rare) to have it’s logo offset so the hands don’t cut through it at the 12 position. It has an original theme with the various food appearances and models.
The use of fellow Brit ‘the strap tailor’ to provide all straps from now on is a bold move.

    1. Hublot, I don't like the brand but you cannot deny that they popularize rubber strap into the luxury watch world along with other uncommon material for case.
    2. Panerai, althought they haven fallen out of grace but they were the opposite of the BB58. Panerai pushes the whole watch world into coming out bigger and bigger watches back in the days.

All good choices. Spot on …there would not be a Daytona without Zenith, so seize the opportunity. My vote for a game changer is Zenith Skyline …. Great look ( similar to 3 of your picks) case, dial and bracelet with one of the most iconic movements. It is clearly a watch for sport or dress. In fact the ultimate one watch collection at a moderate price and available.
Hell! I my have talked myself into buying one!!

  • @Z06Wingnut
    @Z06Wingnut Před rokem +6

Rollercoaster for me on Adrian's takes to start lol. LOVE the Zenith Chronomaster Sport, I think as a triple-subdial chrono it gets roped into Daytona comps... but the subs are different, in both design and spacing, the tachy bezel is different, lugs are different, movement is VERY different... it's a different watch. It's what Zenith sees the Daytona as if they'd designed the case and dial as opposed to the movement, and Rolex's Daytona is what they see it as if they'd originally designed the movement as opposed to the case and dial. It's unfair to say Zenith doesn't have some claim to a chrono SIMILAR to the Daytona in that they had a part in that origin story, and it's definitely unfair to say the Chronomaster Sport is an outright Daytona copy or homage. If you can look at a Royal Oak, Nautilus, or a GP and say they're different watches you have to say the Chrono Sport is a different watch than the Daytona. Without question.
The VC American 1921 is a dream. Absolutely incredible piece, if I could afford anything in that price range that'd be my buy.

Grand Seiko, is quite under priced, and equally under-appreciated for the level of watchmaking in most of their models, as well as to their contribution, to the overall industry. The "Alpine Eagle," was such a game-changer, for Chopard. Nothing else out there quite like it, IMHO. The "Octo Finisimo," by Bvlgari, defied the limits of watchmaking, in such a bold, yet impactful way. I could not agree more. Well done to all of you, and thank you for the interesting discussion. Hearing Daniel Wellington stings like hell. I love the podcast and you guys really are incredible, but I think you have misunderstood the brand. They’re 30$ Ali express watches that have a brand name smacked on the dial, and it’s not even an applied logo. Daniel Wellington is as close to robbery as you can get without flat out assaulting someone and stealing their money.

“To change the game or not to change the game… that is the question. Whether it is nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of another dive watch variant or to take arms against a sea of troubles and my brothers to design a sports dress watch, and end it. Tis a consummation devoutly to be wished!
But ah there’s the rub, all those watch channel influencers and enthousiasts.
Screw it, if necessary I shuffle off the mortal coil but will be the changer of games: (the Moonswatch… euhm sorry, that’s just silly… ) The Black Bay 58!! “

The Octo Finissimo, Historiques American 1921 and Laureato are the three winners ... especially the Bvlgari. The rest can suck it.
A true game changer for me is the Grand Seiko Snowflake, and should have made it on the list ahead of all the others mentioned, with the possible exception of the Octo Finissimo. In my view the Snowflake revolutionized the brand, and was a precursor to all the astounding models GS has released since that time, particularly with its Spring Drive movement.

IMHO, and as an Omega fanboy, Tudor BB is tha bomb/Gamechanger. Zenith and Omega runs in my family's veins, and I do not care for the Big brother of the Tudor but I am looking for my 3th BB, most likely the smaller and blue BB58 or the 925. All other mentioned watches I do admire and love, perhaps not Bremont as much (excluding micros), but budget-wise non of them fit most wallets as well as BBs do.
