Just used that lens this eve with my Sony Mk V, faces seemed soft and not tack sharp. What could I fix, what am I missing ? Would appreciate any insight you have ! Tysm
Hmmm this may be a lens issue or focusing issue? My experience has been that this lens is very sharp - f2.8-f/10. Not quite as sharp as a prime but well ahead of other zoom lenses. Without knowing more, is any part of the image sharp? It can certainly produce a very shallow depth of field at apertures like f/2.8 (I.e. eyes sharp and in focus, nose, cheekbones, ears, etc. blurred from depth of field). If that’s the case try stopping down to maybe f/7.1? If nothing is sharp it may be a focusing or lens issue! Hope this helps, I’m curious to hear if you’ve solve it!
@@benjamindbailey Thank you for your input, I also learned that the filter’s that are put on the glass can cause soft photos as well. I’ve had a filter on since day 1 to protect the glass. Thanks again 😊
@@TheOtherSamMallory Tysm for responding to my question. I did do a lens firmware update from ver.1 to ver.3 and removed the filter I added for the protection of the glass. I’m going out Sat morn to see if this helps. And will work on focus and your suggestion as well. The photos I took were of a beautiful face, but, the face had no sharpness at all … also, I called Sony for help with the buttons on the side, as the lil booklets of info that came with the lens are in every language but English. Everything I’m learning is from those like yourself who are experienced photographers, so a big Thank you to you, and Thank you for your suggestions.. 👍🏼👍🏼🆙

Read in a review that below f4 this lens looses sharpness. I don't own the lens so I can't comment for sure either way.

From my limited real-world use I’d have a really tough time saying there’s much noticeable drop-off. F/4 is very very sharp though!
