    8 years ago i purhased a Victron multiplus 24v\5000kw\120Amp unit with a pair of 150\100 Victron MPPT charge controllers.
    I had started off with an 20 year old 1000 Ah lead acid battery bank in rough condition.
    The system still runs without any issues 8 years later.
    The quality overall is nothing short of perfect with easy to follow programming ability and excellent efficientcy is unreal.
    I thought i had a bad battery so i reprogrammed both inverter and charge controller within 15 minutes.

    I am lost for words, the house is simply stunning. Victron and Pylontech seem go hand in hand and are appearing in all your videos, was hoping more information about the solar panels themselves would be presented. Home Automation is the way forward. Here's hoping Victron start working on an Amazon Alexa Skill, Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Home Assistant integration with their Cerbo GX.

    A wise choice to use Victron, low frequency transformer based inverter chargers instead of the many cheap, high frequency, transformerless inverter chargers that have flooded the market.

    Great system, very envious. However like most of us using solar, he must struggles during overcast short days in winter. I say that because, if not he would not need to consider wind power generation. I have an off-grid system about one mile from home providing 20kw PV. This will keep two EVs charged for typically 9 months/year with excess to be exported by battery trailer to my house for about 10 months/year. I find that each EV consumes about the same as the house per year so it is a big challenge to be totally off-grid into the future. Last month, December 2023, was one of the worst months for solar for several years and it proved that even with 114kwh storage it was impossible for me to avoid taking any grid electricity during that month. Wind energy might be a way of making up the difference but at present small scale wind power rarely works cost effectively and is very dependent on a good location.

    At 3:37, where he talks about the big spike in voltage from the grid to 250V and how he solved this using ESS. I am unclear as to how exactly ESS solved this? Is he saying he basically went off the grid completely (thereby the spike to 250V no longer applies to him, or that he used ESS in some way to lower the voltage down to 230V?

    • @James-op6ls
      @James-op6ls Před 6 měsíci

      Also interested in this. My understanding with the MP II is that the AC out we'll always be the same voltage as AC in, unless I'm mistaken? 🤔

    • @BluePowerPro
      @BluePowerPro Před 6 měsíci

      @@James-op6ls Yes when grid connected and not inverting, the inverter simply acts as a bypass device which means that its wouldnt solve the high voltage issue. My guess is that he went totally off grid and used ESS as part of that setup, Just not clear, as the way its conveyed, sounds like ESS was able to lower the voltages while still being connected to the grid

      You can alter the incoming voltage and out going voltages.
      I know of an electrical enginner that used smaller cable and at the end of the very long run had 160volts then input that into a multiples ans altered it to get the 230 volts 😂.
      Saved on cable and the current draw wasn't large just needed to save on cable and avoid voltage drop. Genius

      Ah I see, I presume the storage voltage is 48V DC ?
      How does Victron see this for the future ? Will 48V be the standard or will we move to higher voltages, such as 72V DC ?
      The trend in most battery equipment is ever increasing voltages.
      We all remember the time when 18v for you battery powered tools was 'the future' , now it's gone up to 40 and even 60volt for such tools.
      How does Victron see this ?
      In my humble opinion I guess the same trend will apply for home energy storage. Or is there a good reason why we wouldn't see storage voltages above 48v ?

    • @bramcoteelectrical1088
      @bramcoteelectrical1088 Před 5 měsíci

      48v is touch voltage safe so that's maybe that's why 😊 for end user type gear 48v is a safe option

      Ah, never thought about safety, lol.
      Yes, makes sense. I was more looking at it from a technical point of view.
      So yes indeed, for DIY stuff 48v seems like a safe limit.
      Maybe for the high end stuff more voltage makes more sense, maybe comparable to cars, or even trucks.
      You don't wanna be messing around with those cables.

    • @bramcoteelectrical1088

      @edwinbruckner4752 100% I think it's great to use 350v dc stuff as you can power some very big systems just I think the risk to DIY users as you correctly said.

    Grid Voltage normally is 230V +-10% so 207-253V. I don't see a problem with electronics there. Transformers will go into magnetic saturation at some point, sure but the capacitors in switchmode power supplys that get charged up to the peak AC voltage are usually 400V, so the AC voltage has to go up to over 280V to damage those. If some device fails at 253V it is not the fault of the grid but rather a crappy designed device
    Nice setup though. I like the fact that you can control all the victron products with basically anything using modbus
    How did you configure the system to prevent over voltages from happening? Does it disconnect from the grid if there is an over voltage?

    • @VictronEnergyBV

    • @bramcoteelectrical1088

      Over voltage isn't good and just goes as wasted heat.
      Here in the 🇬🇧 UK alot of domestic products are from European countries and are rated at 230v and our supply is 250v +/- 10%😮but this over voltage is just wasted as heat 🥵 🔥 ☀️ so a nice lower voltage is softer on the power supplies and consumer electronics.
      230 voltage ⚡️ ♥️

      @@margarita8442, when using a generator, i would recommend to charge the battery with another Victron Multiplus II 48/5000 and use this as a 48V-charger connected next to the other MPII 48/5000 and as a backup unit for the three other MPII 48/5000. the generator is a 1-phase-version ~4 kW continuous AC power with a blue CEE32-connector to the MPII 48/5000. the main advantage of this version is, that the voltage is constant like before and nothing of the system has to be changed.
