  • Making a fire board specifically for the bow drill using only flint stone tools. This features a stone drill bit, a hand saw, and a bladed flake all knapped or produced by me. This video was originally meant to be a youtube short but youtube was messing up the video.
    Songs used in video:
"Far Horizons" by Jeremy Soule (Skyrim Soundtrack)

Thanks ya know surprisingly I do most of my hearth boards this style and the ember and dust will always fall out the notch just right

    How'd you split it out?

I was walking on my way to work lol and this tulip poplar wood was freshly cut down by landscapers, I asked if I could have some and they were like sure take as much as you want! I batoned it with a knife and whacked it down with a wooden mallet. This is the best way for a beginner to obtain a fire board. I’ve been wanting to work with tulip poplar for a while now and I saw the opportunity to take one that was down already and so now I will wait for the wood to dry

@@PaleoPassion nice! I'm trying to figure out how to split the stuff I have without steel, the pine has a nice crack in it I think I could get a wedge into by the cottonwood idk. I was thinking maybe if I sawed into the end with stone then stuck a wooden wedge in the end maybe I could get it done 🤔

@@user-tx6hz9ll8m yes I think you can! Also this fire board I made is for a bow drill which personally I like to make thicker in girth, and the hand drill boards thinner. But you can totally wedge and whack that wood to split
Are you using pine or cottonwood for the fire board?
