She's a good writer of breakup songs, but she's never been deeply in love to know what it's like to really be WITH someone. Her songs hit a melancholy shallow for me. I've been married to the same guy for over 30 years, and it makes her songs sound so uninspired/uninspiring. The saddest Swiftie I know is a woman who's realizing that she doesn't love her husband as their youngest kid is finally leaving for college. She relates to all those breakups, for sure, and I find that sad. All these years, and they never became friends. Taylor doesn't sing about friendship unless the friends end up married to each other, and that's how I know she's never been in love all that deep. She can't write it if she doesn't know it, so it makes me sad for her like I'm sad for my friend and her husband. Then again, she has it all, right? Marriage and partnership aside, Taylor has the stars to shine however brightly she wants down on anywhere in the world she wants to be. I guess there's a kind of happiness one can have doing that. Alone. But she has kitties, like I said, so maybe she's happy, but it's hard to believe a love-lorn person like her is happy singing about love she doesn't have.
I couldn't disagree more. she doesn't need to experience it herself to write about it, she's already written amazing fictional work. and she has several songs about love that are beautiful. idk what you've listened to but I've heard every song on every album as well as songs she wrote for other people. @@Sarappreciates
You missed the best parallell, between Call it what you want and Love story. In the bridge. "I recall late November, holding my breath slowly I said, "You don't need to save me, but would you run away with me?", Yes!" and "Romeo save me" and "all there´s left to do is run" and "baby just say yes". The birthday reference and the barbed wire in the thumbnail. I had Coney Island a couple times cuz it references other lovers. Then Illicit Affairs and Question?, both mentioning a unique color. "you showed me colors you know I can't see with anyone else"/"you painted all my nights a color I've searched for since"... that should've been here somewhere as well. Plus the diaries in Cornelia/Thousand Cuts/Suburban Legends

I feel so sorry for Taylor. She's so bad at love that she thinks the most intense parts of life are falling in and out of love. Poor thing doesn't know what it's like to be truly IN it with that one special person who keeps working it with you until 30 years has passed, and you realize you're in such a good place... I wish i could bottle this feeling for everyone to experience even if just for a few moments. She's a serial romantic, but I her songs betray her that she's never truly been in love.
