Vitthala vitthala is what he was repeating... The song comes under category of " Abhang " which means poetry which in done in praise of hindu god " lord Vitthal " .. in the end what he was doing was called " Gajar " in which people immerse in the devotion of lord vitthala by chanting his name over and over .. and dance with playing small cymbals .. . It gives them feeling of eternal bliss.

This song is composed in a raag called Malkauns. The only notes that are used are Saa Ga(flat) Ma Dha(flat) Nee(flat) Saa. In the western solfege, this is,
Do Mi(flat) Faa La(flat) Ti(flat) Do.
This is one of the ancient scales in Hindustani music and can invoke powerful religious emotions in Indian minds.

It's Bhimpalasi, not Malkauns. The meend from _M_ to komal _g_ is unmistakable.

Incidentally, I found a _very_ old film composition from 1970 (from the movie ZALA MAHAR PANDHARINATH) Checking in Marathi film database reveals that the lyrics were by G. D. Madgulkar (GDIMA) and this was sung by Pandit Vasantrao Deshpande and Sudhir Phadke.

Mahesh Kale is from San Fransisco bay teaching n performing Indian Classical. He is multi talented Engineer in Music n engg.
Coming from India and Pakistan everybody just happens to be an engg or a doctor that is of course until they come to the west. To prove my point I am willing to bet that Mahesh is a full time music teacher and not an engineer in San Francisco.
@@onlygknows7793 he studied Engg. alongside music but now full time musician. He also worked as engineer prior to giving full time to music. This he told in an interview in youtube.
