  • Fitting my Ammeter.
    I've just fitted an ammeter to my bike to replace the removed MIL due to having a carburettor conversion.
    This is for information only, not an instructional video, but to show how I wired it up. I'm not suggesting that this is the 100% correct way to do it, but I've wired many before to previous bikes and not had any problems.
    ....WARNING.... If you choose to do this yourself then you do so at your own risk. I can't be held responsible for any damage or injury to either yourself, third party, or the machine.
    If you'd like to, you can buy me a coffee if you think this was useful to you. Thank you.

    Thankyou for a clear and simple Vid. I noticed you used metric sockets, are Enfield's use metric threads? Tim.

      Hi Tim. So far I've found only metric threads on the bike, but the chain adjusters from Hitchcocks appear to be imperial....7/16th af if I remember correctly. I'm not sure if there's a mix generally on other bikes or elsewhere on mine..... I'm sure I'll find out at some point. Thanks for watching and your kind comment.👍👍

    It worked! It worked! Sir, it worked! I've done exactly as you said. You've no idea for how long I'm trying to make this work! For over 2 years, I've consulting mechanics, the RE service centre and capable automotive electricians. No one could come to a viable explanation as to where the connection needs to be made without cutting a single wire. Some said that it will burn my EFi as soon as I'll switch on, some said that it won't be safe transferring high current wires under the tank. Some said it will drain my battery and some other bro-science too shameful to mention. The RE engineers told me definitely not to connect in line with the main fuse. No wiring can be cut as it will void my warranty. Can't be connected to the ECU. It was a big big problem. Well I can definitely assure you it was. Also, you'll see there is not a single video on CZcams based on this topic. I almost gave up.
    Then two days ago, I found this video of yours and I didn't know I was so blessed. Even after watching your video, I felt it was slight confusing as to which wire I need to break in. So, I thought of leaving a comment and as usual I didn't expect a reply. But things turned out to be different. Not only you replied but you also spoon-fed me the instructions!
    I went to a local mechanic to got myself the same connecting terminal plug which is connected in the thin wire. I added the ammeter directly in series with it without slicing a single wire. Fearfully turned on the ignition hoping nothing happens and oh my god, this unbelievable thing happened! It worked, sir! It worked like a charm just as you and your video claimed! Maybe its not a big thing, but adding an ammeter on the recent ECU 500 models as far as the complex wiring is concerned, the engineers and the mechanics had their head scratching and couldn't find a viable as well as an efficient way to do it. The RE engineers couldn't do it even after looking at their own internal foles which aren't made availabe to common people.
    It was like a dream of mine to add an ammeter on the keyslot of the imperial casquette of the RE Classic 500 so that it can do justice to pure British motorcycling design and engineering. I planned to put an ammeter 2 years before even buying this motorcycle. When I did, everyone told the ammeter in this model would never work atleast without cutting a wire. But here we are! Under your guidance it was as easy as turning a page of a book. You made a complicated task look like its nothing. You sir, made a dream come true.
    Thank you David Garside for your excellence. I shall always remember and be grateful to you. Thank you once again.
    And therefore its true. ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

      Thats brilliant, glad it worked for you too. I only did what I've always done when wiring an ammeter by cutting into the one wire, and a competent and long term auto electrician said there's no reason why it shouldn't work as normal. Mines been fine so far so fingers crossed it stays that way. Thanks for the great comments.
      Regards. David.

    Hi Dave I forget to get back to you regarding my Clutch and Mot for my Suzuki Alto in September. I changed my mind from the main dealers. Took it there they started talking about the gearbox! Got my keys of them and booked in to my old mechanic in Enfield. The Clutch Mot and front brake pads pads all in with oil change £520. Sorry about delay in getting back I Did Subscribe and you pop up about the Enfield motor bike take care

      Hello again. Glad you got it all sorted, obviously the 80 mile trip was worth it. My main fuse went the other day and the car just died....no electrics whatsoever.. AA man temp repaired the fuse, and my dealer fitted a new one (complete positive terminal assembly, 59.00 ouch). No apparent reason for it to go....just glad I wasn't on a fast road or out in the dark! Nice to hear from you. You take care too. 👍👍

    Hi people has anyone got an Electra X 2007. And the wiring is different I have a grey wire and a black wire how would I fit the ammeter. Thanks

    • @DavidGarside
      @DavidGarside  Před 3 lety

      Hi Grant. The Ammeter usually goes in the positive wire between the battery and the rest of the circuit, but not in the starter wire (the big heavy one). It may be different for other machines though.

      I may have to look under the seat there seem to be more electrics there

    But my another question is that how to do the wrieing of the horn in royal Enfield bullet 👍🏻

    • @DavidGarside
      @DavidGarside  Před 3 lety +1

      It would be better if you could get a wiring diagram for your model as you should already have the wiring in place. Usually there is a fused wire from the ignition switch which goes to over side of the horn, and the other write to the switch where it wreaths when pressed. There may also be a relay in the circuit, which is why you'd be better looking at a diagram to make sure it's wired safely. Thank you for watching.

    Hi david can you tell me please what is the size of the ammeter i have a 2015 bullet and had the carb conversion and want to put a ammeter in place of eml and i see there are a couple of different sizes

    • @DavidGarside
      @DavidGarside  Před rokem

      Hi Jeremy. The outer bezel diameter is 45mm, so about 40mm for the ammeter. It fitted straight into the old hole vacated by the MIL. Good luck.

    Really having a hard time wiring an ammeter to the Classic 500. Can it be wired with the kill switch? Please help.

    • @DavidGarside
      @DavidGarside  Před 3 lety +1

      I think the kill switch will probably only earth the ignition so don't think it will work from there. Is yours an older model ?

    • @soumyadeepsarkar8320
      @soumyadeepsarkar8320 Před 3 lety

      Its a newer model. Classic 500. But the wiring is almost same.

      Is there any known method to add the ammeter without cutting any wire?

    • @DavidGarside
      @DavidGarside  Před 3 lety +1

      As far as I know, this is the only way to do it. You could buy a volt meter instead which will give you the battery voltage and it's easier to wire. I personally prefer to know if I have charge though, which is why I fitted this.

      @@DavidGarside Actually sir, I was planning to add an ammeter on the key slot and transfer the key slot to the toolbox, which I did. I tried wiring the ammeter in series with the ignition. It didn't work. It only showed the current drop and not the charging parameter.
