Funny how Alexstrasza just 5 expansions ago said now we enter the age of mortals. Like "yeah you guys had 10 years and you've jacked it all up, so yeah, gimme that back."
Eh, it's the age of mortals, or course it was short-lived.
Well they did mention that the Isles were thought to be lost forever, essentially. We will obviously help them save their homeland.
It's "THE" Age of Mortals now, however the Dragons are having a new Age "OF" Dragons - one following their previous status as divine-level protectors of the world.
The Dragons still live in the world, of course they are going to play a role in it. After the end of the British Empire it's not as if the UK just sat back and did nothing ever again because "their age" was over. In fact you hear the phraseology "a new age" used all the time to denote a new start and new lease on life in a direction different to the old.
I mean in these 5 Expansions we had 2 Wars basically (In Pandaria and BFA) We caused Timetraveling Chaos with WoD, which had lead to the Legion Returning and we almost let the Forces of Death itself claim the Soul of the World. Soooooo.... can you be mad at her? :D
Wait, aren’t the dragons mortals now? Wouldn’t they all fall under the same umbrella? I didn’t play through Cataclysm, so I’m not really sure.
No matter how many times I watch this cinematic, I have to fight back the tears every time!

Glad I wasn't the only one only one frustrated by them putting a smash cut that spoils everything, in front of the trailer on their official channel. Like, what the hell? Especially on this one, which is designed with an unexpected rescue in it!

Its so when they run the trailer as an ad on CZcams there's something to keep people watching before the 5 second skip turns on. Its dumb, but thats why everyone does it.

@@comical4609 i mean, it kind of is. It still doesn't explain why they do it in like theatrical versions when you're at the cinema, I've already paid money and sat my butt down, no need to put a trailer before the trailer. But adhd explains it because most folks are on phones during credits.
I've only known Stony Tony for 4 minutes and if I cannot meet him in the Dragon Isles I will go on a killing spree.

Are we maybe putting the cart before the horse? Maybe the ones with the extreme weathering and missing pieces didn't die because of the missing pieces, maybe they're missing pieces because they died (ran out of whatever spark animated them), and then began to fall apart because they were missing that spark that held them together and animated them? Just a thought...
I think it was death wing and the cataclysm that destroyed most of the watchers. His emergence wrecked almost everything in the world. It’s feasible his entrance affected here as well.
Yeah, this makes more sense but I don't think watchers age so why would the watcher follow have all those cracks?

I think they died from weather. It wasn’t supposed to take 10,000 years for the dragons to return
I wondered if the others were victims of systematic deliberate destruction (possibly ritual?), given they were missing their faces, and our Tony was the last?
Then I thought: who’d benefit if the Dragons stayed out of the game?
Seeing Tali’s unmitigated elation gave me so much life this morning. Reminds me why I love this game. It can just be so Fucking cool at it’s best moments.

Tali, if you read this, the moment Tony wakes up and looks around...he is -smiling-. Was such a heartbreak when I noticed.

1 min in, and I feel extremely underdressed for the occasion. 😂 Unfortunitaly my dog felt ill just as the reveal started, so I'll catch up on Dragonflight here hehe. 🙂

Honestly this feels like a breath of fresh air. I’m so over the “2Edgy4U”existential threat after existential threat that the last few xpacs have felt like. Feel like my brain’s been knocked around from it too much and I’m tired (sure I’m not the only one, too). Dragon!Mum Saves The Day after all that is just…glorious. Her roar is so triumphant. Feels like Mama’s Home after all the last few years of skullfuggery and it feels good.
BTW Tali - love the outfit. A+ on the bow tie.
This is the vibe I got and why I love it so much. This makes it feel like we're returning to ancient Azeroth and I've always wanted that. I'm so excited for this and I think they set the mood well for where we need to be after the past few expacs.

why are you assuming there won't be another "existential threat" in this expac? Jailer literally "hints"(more like screams) that something bigger than him is coming. Just keep your guard up, Blizz always have a high chance to disappoint in the story department.

I have to say that moment when Tony (stoneguy) was falling from the tower, got me tears. Thats one of the best moments in this cinematic. also when Alextraza saves him and u see her with kind of a Smile in her Dragon face :)
11:20 I wonder if the truth is in reverse actually, that they died in their slumber, and then started to decay which allowed chunks of them to fall off.
Tony is missing a chunk of his nose.
The piano notes you speak about in 7:05 are part of the music theme of Dragonblight in Northrend, which is btw imho, the best OST for a zone in the entire game.
It was so fun to just yell out "MOM!" once Alexstrasza swooped across the screen to save Tony

I knew the moment I saw this I would be so uplifted by Taliesin's reaction to Stony Tony's rescue. Of all the WoW CZcamsrs I watch, I was most looking forward to Tali's reaction to Dragonflight's cinematic.
After seeing all the negativity that pervades corners of this fandom so often, it was refreshing to see your pure excitement and joy, Tali. Thank you. And bring on the dragons!

I LOVED that "nothing happened." I love that we didnt get some cliche baddie intro in it. The trailer promises adventure, which is what we need.

I've stopped playing possibly just through overplaying of the game, but my god, the moment that Tony gets saved and Tali screams brings me so much joy
When “Tony” rejoined the halves of the crystal (gemstone?) I was totally expecting the Dragon Isles to come busting out of the water, Atlantis style. Tiny bit disappointed that’s not what happened lol
"The world is healing"......oh except for the 500 mile long sword sticking out of Silithus lol. I got the impression the damage to them was a result of the Cataclysm caused by Deathwing, maybe they will touch on that in the expansion story.
I still have to ask. If you and your entire people are literally made from stone, why would you take a 10,000 year nap OUTSIDE? That's where erosion lives! It looks like even the throne room was exposed to the elements. What, dragons can't build a few bedrooms?
It seems like they were asleep for way to long. They should woken up when the Legion was beaten, but either the Sundering or Deathwing and the Black Dragons corruption stopped them

Stoney Tony told a better story in 2 mins than Shadowlands did in 2 years.
The most cheerful and best reaction I've seen :) Cinematic top class, not very dramatic however (I've forgotten to breath on both BFA and SL cinematics) but still amazing.

10,000 years ago was a really eventful year.
Imagine if there is another intact watcher that woke up before Tony, saw all his friends smashed to pieces and just straight up broke the beacon before Tony arrived.

It would be cool if the dracthyr could have a somewhat 'fully draconic' form for mount purposes, I understand logistically why they have to be humanoid for the most part but it would be cool if they had a flight or 'dragon riding' form reminiscent of an actual drake or dragon.

Stony Tony had a sylvanas BFA cinematic moment
His name should be steve tbh. As in “stone cold steve austin” 😂 also tyr or not lore or not the watcher in the cinematic uses his left hand to turn the big dial thingy and then its his left hand thats missing when hes sitting in the throne later. I think all those watchers are just like the stone golem dudes in ungoro etc.

They probably went with re-animating only one stone guy because it makes it more dramatic. If there had been two guys climbing that tower & shoving the thing together, it's less likely that one would fall.

Thank you!! I got so happy when you got angry about them doing the smash cut. I was at work for the reveal so I watched the trailer later and saw Stony tony getting carried by the dragon so it ruined the best part of the cinematic, I knew he was going to get caught when he was falling. So pissed.

According to Steve Danuser they had to shut down the island because it was run on elemental power which at the time was waning due to the sundering
has to be canon now, stone guys name is Tony. Also why was I so invested in Tony's journey during this trailer to the point I cheered when he got saved? xD
So the tower is the on-switch for the islands.
I've been watching lots of reaction videos and it makes me so happy to see the joy in people when Alexstraza saves Tony and the dragons appear ^.^

The one most interesting part about this trailer is: There's no "bbeg" present as centre of the attention, but actually the theme is about rebuilding. That's new. That's different. Hope they stick to it.
The stone watchers remind me of Laputian robots from Castle in the Sky; sadness in their eyes but extreme dedication of purpose.

He’s also missing a chunk of his head like all of them are. They were attacked when the dragon flight left on a mission to go and help with the sundering of Azeroth and they hid the dragon isles away. Evil struck that already exisisted on the dragon isles hidden away I think. The dragon flight don’t know anything’s wrong yet I don’t think.

Am I the only one who thinks the dragon isles are the “other side of Azeroth” we have been teased for so long… it was shrouded in most and mystery and that is exactly what this was…

I'm excited for the new expansion, I really am. But this cinematic didn't really feel like a WoW cinematic. It might just be because we don't see any of the playable races or pre-established characters aside from Alexstrasza.
I also noticed that this cinematic trailer did very little to portray any significant story beats. I think it might be because Blizzard is trying to cater to new audiences here who would feel left out for not knowing the context- something the last decade of WoW expansion cinematics are guilty of.
I think this is very positive. A fresh start and focusing on the future and Alexstrazsa is enough for me :D

I've been looking forward to your take on this since the release yesterday. I'm happy potato dancing in my chair right now. The trailer about a trailer rant is justified and identical when I was trying to show hubby the new trailer, boy did I go on a rant. Blizzard pulled out the big guns by doing a dragon expansion and I'm mad that I like it cause I don't have the money for any of it lol. I look forward to your in depth take on the video and I'd love to see your take on the round table discussions Blizzard released. The amount of representation at each table for the discussion about the game was a breath of fresh air. Some people might see it as pandering I see it as change that's about damn time.
