Thanks for another great preview of the Carson National Forest. We plan on heading up next week. It should be interesting to see what the fire did. I have read that the wildflowers are exploding right now. Cheers
I hiked this back in 2019 and enjoyed it. I feel like backpackers should be aware of the hunting seasons before they go. I hiked up the day before big horn sheep season and shared the trail/lake area with a lot of hunters on horseback. I did not attempt to summit the peak. If you see a lot of horse trailers at the trailhead you’ll know.
Great video! We are backpacking up to Serpent Lake on Saturday for a single nighter and wondering about the water sources. Since you said you ran out, are you saying there are no water sources past those first 2 water crossings? We're taking the dog on his first backpacking adventure so very excited! Thanks for your help.
That is correct, except for a small stream that you'll cross just before the lake. It's really not that far from the trailhead, just kinda steep. Personally, I had just made an error in judgement not to fill up at the lake when we were there.
@@StarMountainHikes thank you for the reply! I'm a flyfisherman first and hiker second, these videos are invaluable. Glad I found you, keep up the great content!
Thanks for the video. Cant wait to go hiking
Any time!
Great second video to the series. I am glad to see Nathan on trail with you. Serpent lake sure is pretty.
Glad you enjoyed it, sure having fun making this series.

Thanks for sharing these videos. I live in Albuquerque and plan on backpacking that area soon!
Plenty more of these videos to come, I'm just getting started. Thanks for your recent sub. Have fun!

@@StarMountainHikes thanks!
Nice video! I'm going in a few days. You said you ran out of water. Is the lake not safe to filter from?
The lake is fine. I just made poor choices that day....
Beautiful! Didn't see the fishing rod this episode. Any fish in the lake?
The lake is super shallow, and I didn't see any signs of fish. Sorry.
