Dude! You and your appreciation for environment and atmosphere in video games , as well as the vibe of your whole channel fits great for this outstanding indie game. Just Beware the Moose.
Yes! Finally! Thank you for playing this. Your commentary on atmosphere and game design is unmatched on CZcams. You really seem to care about the games you play.
Your appreciation for the environment and the way you immerse yourself in the game really shines through. It's so refreshing to see someone not just play, but truly connect with the virtual world and talk about the beauty and challenges it presents. Your attention to detail and the way you describe the scenery and survival mechanics adds a whole new layer to the experience. Keep up the amazing work!
Also a little tip: when putting on clothes. Try to place the more waterproof clothes on the outside. The icons closer to the body is the inner and the opposite is the outer. Hope that helps.
Have you ever watched some of the Russian "ghost-hunting" YT channels? The majority seem to take place in the winter, in abandoned, dilapidated log cabins. The narratives are (of course) very dark, and there is also a ton of foreboding atmosphere, as well as a bit of guilty relief knowing you don't have to live in such conditions. *Tim Morozov* and *Dark Ghost* are two shows that come to mind.
My wife is a native siberian and most of the folklore and superstition is about strange sightings of cryptids and spirits in the forests and mountains. The conditions there are very isolated. But the people which live there are well prepared. The winter can even be better, because of the overpopulation of mosquitoes in the summer, sometimes forming black clouds or the spring and autumn, when the bears wake up from or prepare for their winter sleep, they become more aggressive.
Great to see you play this. Some small advice if you turn it into a longer series: - red icon you saw sometimes means you're on a slope and there's a sprain risk. - in cars, beside the glovebox, you can also pop the visor, sometimes there's a lore note or cache info there. Also check trunks, and pickup beds (sometimes suff spawn there under the snow) - Check under the beds! After I found a rifle like that, I have to check every bed. - Electrical stuff, like the elevator in the mine, works during a certaint world event - you'll know when it happens. - Windproof temperature bonus is only applied from the topmost layer clothing - so 1st head, 1st outer torso and 2nd outer legs slots (beside the gloves and boots).
In case you don't find out in this video: you CAN use cans to boil water, the pot just lets you boil more water and cook certain foods. Also, you can press "H" to stow whatever item you're holding in your hand. If I recall correctly, pressing it again will bring that item back out again.
The red thing that pops up in the corner is a steep slope indicator. Steep slopes increase your risk of getting a sprained ankle, an injury that can prove disastrous under the right circumstances. The white sheild with the swirl indicates you're sheilded from the wind when it pops up. Windchill is accounted for when it comes to temperature loss, so you'll want to minimize exposure. You can hear how active the wind is based on visual and audio cues from the environment (swaying trees, the rush of wind through branches, creaking boards while in an interior structure, etc.). Your character also has inertia that changes based on the amount of weight you are carrying. Going up an incline slows you down and costs more energy, going down an incline speeds you up and saves energy (try to not go too fast down a slope and end up with a sprained ankle). It's good practice to chart paths through an environment that maximizes the efficiency of slopes, just as you would trekking in an IRL survival situation.
My favorite part of this game is how there’s no long-term goals it’s just survive. There’s nothing to turn on or off. There’s no rescue coming to get you. It’s just survival.
Only rarely does the Librarian play a game that I'm already very familiar with, so seeing The Long Dark finally make an appearance on this channel is so awesome to me! It truly is one of the most beautiful and well-made yet simple games I've ever played, one of my favorites of all time, and I really appreciate the reverence and thoughtful commentary you gave it! I hope to see you play more of it, I'd love to see what you think of the other areas and landscapes, the various wildlife and items, different encounters/situations, etc. The whole atmosphere of the game lends itself really well to the creeping paranoia of someone hidden nearby, watching you, especially when in bad weather or low lighting (or I find being in the towns generally creepy). I can't even count the number of times I've expected to see some hunched over hooded figure peek out from behind a snowbank, or how many times I've stared really hard at a tree in the dark of a forest trying to parse out if it's actually something alive and moving. But it is endlessly refreshing that the devs of the game don't needlessly add in jumpscares, despite how easy it would be! It's simply not the point nor spirit of the game and I cannot thank them enough for that. TLD is an incredibly unforgiving game, so kudos to you for even trying the Voyageur difficulty level and wanting a challenge and for surviving as much as you did!
So great to see you playing one of my favourite games! The replay value. the atmosphere, and the immersion that makes you feel like you're in the game, it's such a great game.
The Long Dark is such a special game. It’s one of the few games I’ve played that I genuinely consider to be art and some of the best the gaming medium has to offer. Really cool to see you playing this. Hope you do more of it in the future.
I love this game so much! I got to watch it grow since its early days, it's AMAZING. I got soooo excited when you mentioned it in a previous video, now it's finally here!! One of my favorite calming youtubers playing one of my favorite calming games! Thank you!
And one more thing this game is absolutely terrifying. Kind of like a survival horror game. Do you have bad weather like in catch you off guard like a jump scare and also when your food is running low, you get that bad feeling in your stomach stomach or at least I do
This game is 100% one of my top 5 favorite games, In my opinion the game is very under rated and is a perfect blend between a walking simulator and a survival game, there are some tips you can pick up to make the game easier but thats best if you save it to discover for yourself, the game does not have a lot of new features since launch but its enough to keep it refreshing (sadly the new features will be behind dlc) I am happy to see you play it but i do think this game fits your style of content. of course thats up to you if you wish to make a series out of this but i know a decent amount of youtube channels who thrive off of this game and make 500 ingame days series, it was a blast to see someone new play this game.
Aw sweet! I think i asked you to play this game a long time ago, and when i heard you say something about it in one of your recent vids my eyes lit up. Thanks so much
37:53 interesting thing about this Sean character, you can find notes mentioning him and their group all along the coastline and a couple other places. He also may be a nod to Jacksepticeye who played the game in the early alpha stages helping people know about the game.
Absolutely adore the vibes. A small thing that I noticed you were missing; you can search the gloveboxes of the cars you enter. Hope that helps, and keep this series up, it would be amazing if you tried the challenges too.
You should try to get to Timberwolf mountain I know I already said that and it’s right next to ash canyon. There’s a cave near the mountain top. You should look it up on a map you can get to ash canyon and there’s a very good backpack in one of the abandoned mineshaft. However, it’s hard to get to and at Cameron is one of the hardest naps, but it is well well-deserved.
Note that both of these maps are extremely hard and don’t provide much shelter make sure to bring coffee’s and tea and stuff to warm you up and decent clothing
You should try out vintage story when you have the chance, it has an amazing atmosphere that isn’t too much in your face but enough to immerse you into the fun game play
You can check gloveboxes in the cars, haven't watched the whole video but just in case you haven't tried it. Also the red triangle in the bottom right is a sprain risk you get from walking on steep inclines/ledges.
yo i dont know if you read the comments but please dont stop playing this game, there is SO much to explore and do just on survival, the story mode of the game is on another level of amazing and beautiful, even if there are only 4 out of 5 chapters out, each one is hours and hours long of gameplay, and the last chapter is said to release late 2023.
I’ve played this game for over 100 hours. I can tell you, without a doubt, fog is one of the most dangerous things in the game. Imagine if you had just walked a bit too far and couldn’t find your way back. You would have passed out from exhaustion and died of hypothermia
Love this game, imo the best survival game out there that maintains a harsh and desperate tone throughout (unless you fucking like, stockpile fish forever but most players never get there) I really hope you play this again, seems right up your alley.
I absolutely agree this game it’s atmosphere and everything about it, including how horrifying it is makes it one of my favorite games ever I guarantee of a AAA studio got on this that was actually competent. This game could become a masterpiece.
another game that'd be awesome to watch you play is Among Trees, seeing this reminded me of it and its a very atmospheric game, though, its not too long, and has been abandoned (as far as i know) but it'd just be really neat to see you try it
Wolves _are_ a resource. If you can kill them. (I haven't played this game but I would be angry if the wolves aren't edible. They are IRL if the situation is dire.)
OMG HES DOING MY FAVORITE GAME 😱 But really this game DOES NOT get enough recognition. I got to meet the dev for hinterland when I was on a summer vacation to Vancouver island. He a really nice guy lol
If Anyone's Interested In The Concept of "Cold = Scary" And Would Like To Hear It From A Critical Analysis Standpoint Then I Recommend The Video Essay Titled: "Fear of Cold" by Jacob Geller (1:24:50) There Are A Million, Million Worlds... All Different, All Similar... There's Always A Lighthouse, There's Always A Man, There's Always A City... Constants And Variables... In This Moment The Librarian Is Canadian... (31:24) Also How Dare You, Ketchup Chips Are Delicious And If It Wasn't For My Bad Stomach And Their Scarcity Where I Live I'd Eat So Many of Them Just FYI...
looks like a cool game.. there should be a log map of where you been and how to get to different points.. anyway great content as always my dude.. 💥👍 💯🙂
Okay but there might actually being in game lower reason for the copy-paste houses if that was like vacation rental property Lakeside vacation resort type stuff it makes sense all the cabins would be identical because they were all built by the same housing project and rented out for the same price I mean some of them actually look like family homes but the ones down by the lake I probably just cabins people rent
Please turn this into a series. You managing resources and trying to survive is really enjoyable to watch

Yes! Finally! Thank you for playing this. Your commentary on atmosphere and game design is unmatched on CZcams. You really seem to care about the games you play.
Thank you for playing this absolutely amazing game. Seriously.
I really hope you enjoy it if you ever return to it later!

When you learn the game a bit you should try to play the "Darkwalker challange", basically a horror mode
