Everyone comparing young Derrick Rose to "prime" Westbrook. It's a crap comparison. Let's not forget that the "average" retirement age for NBA is mid-30's. So, Russ should have been in a slow-down phase about 2017. Considering the number of games played, injuries and all the stresses on the body in the span of 6 years of this comparison, Derrick Rose would have been more physically sound in 2011 compared to Westbrook in 2017. In 2011, both players had about 328 games played in 4 seasons, by 2017, both had an average of 820 games played. That's a lot of stress on the body, and this is considering ONLY regular season games, this isn't even taking into consideration, pre-season games, practices, and exhibition games. This is why Westbrook is my favorite player. I will always root for RW!

Not to mention that the Bulls lost Ben Gordon in free agency along with some key injuries on that Bulls team the following season. Rose had the better MVP year.
They were in the same draft. To be fair Why not compare Rose year 3 to Westbrook year 3. You comparing 3 years of pro development to 9 years of pro development.
I mean even if you do that their stats are similar. Rose averaged more points and more blocks. Russ averaged more assists, rebounds, more turnovers and more steals. They both shot 44% from the field and 33% from three. Rose shot 85% from ft and Russ shot 84%
You could argue that Russel Westbrooks historic usage rate held his team back from growing and developing chemistry 🧪 that season. For that reason I’m taking Prime D-Rose.
Exactly. He wasn't playing winning basketball. It's like young Wilt Chamberlain - looks flashy but not a good system for the team as a whole (which is an even worse indictment on Westbrook as a point guard). Wilt later got better coaches and proved that he could play winning basketball, but Westbrook never did so. D-rose was actually winning against historically great teams. When he played on a great team (KD Thunder), was he the reason the team was good? I know there was some debate about that at the time, but looking back Westbrook was no Durant. Face it, prime Westbrook was all-NBA but no MVP. I respect his game, but let's acknowledge what it is.
You cannot compare D Rose to anyone!! He never hit his full potential. Plus the amount of possessions per game was a lot higher during Russ’s MVP year. He was a 22 year old who led his team to 62 wins. Stop comparing this man to every slashing PG and just appreciate his greatness
Derrick GOAT Rose 22 years. Russel Westbrook 29 years. Russel need 7 years of development and training to have a chance to be compared with Derrick Rose 22 years. This say how incredible Derrick Rose MVP was!!! Derrick Rose GOAT!!!!
Westbrook got MVP because he did something that hadn't been done for a long time and now has become common place. Rose's MVP is like all other MVPs being the most valuable player on a number 1 or 2 seed in the conference.

russ had his meniscus injured in 2013, but he came back even better. Before that he was actually a GOOD mid range post-up shooter, afterwards he only became average, and now we all know his shooting is dog shit
disagree, Russ had a great season but his usage rate and his not great turnovers and shooting numbers are the reason why I don't think his season is as impressive as people make it out to be. I think it's still impressive he carried the team and I think he deserved the MVP but I think Rose was better because he lead his team better, his second best player missed half the season and his other starting big man also missed like half the season. Plus I think Rose is more of a winner and he didn't average those crazy Westbrook numbers because that's not how his team played and he lead a ok team to 60 wins and the best record in the league with Kobe's lakers who just repeated, the spurs, the mavs, the magic, the Celtics, and the big 3 heat at their collective best. For me winning will be more important and impressive than individual stats, that's not me saying they're not important or impressive, and I think Rose had the better season.
@@letstalk140 I don't remember how many game winners he hit but I agree Russ had a great season but with context statistically I don't think it's as good as people say because of his usage rate, efficiency, turnovers, and the fact that people think averaging a triple double means something in terms of who's better.

His assist to turnover ratio for that year was 1.9. The following year he didn’t even qualifiy in the top 100. For those that don’t understand that, it means for every 1.9-2 assists he dished out, he had triple that amount in turnovers

He led the league in scoring, while being 2nd in assists. He was a guard who was 8th in rebounding. Also he was #1 in almost every clutch statistic. For those who say he was stat-padding, the Thunder's gameplan was to let the most athletic and fastest guard in NBA history (Literally proven) to grab the rebound and get the defense backpedalling. He wins like 78% of games that he has had a triple-double in. His team was hardly supposed to make the playoffs, while playing in the western conference. The Thunder's roster was absolute dog water. It’s a tricky comparison because it’s a comparison between a player in their prime and a player who was a half decade off his prime.
DRose all day!! He was 22 years old when he was MVP of the league, and he didn't even reach his prime! Some say that Russell had the worst team of the two, and that might be true, but let's not forget that he also played with KD , Ibaka ,Harden ,and Derick Fisher, at the same time as Rose's MVP years , same age and everything! And did he do better than Rose? Did he win a championship? Was he in the discussion of the MVP candidate then !! Rose did it in 3 Year what took Russell 9! No comparison!
DRose.
Because he had to.
Russ' stat stuffing doesn't impress me.
Answer. Drose is better than westbrook in any season prior knee injury

D. Rose. He gave the Heat a scare in the East and that's something.
Heat need to build a DREAM TEAM to win Derrick Rose and his guys. LeBron more 2 super hiper stars. Bulls are a good team, but only Derrick Rose is a superstar.
I still think D rose 🌹 was still better. His prime was at 22yrs old. That’s a child’s age. Dude was robbed of his potential. Stats mean nothing if you can’t use them to win.
D rose was better because he could do thing better than russ like shoot.
Russ and Rose basically has the same shotting efficiency and russ averged 5 more points 10 rebounds, 10 assists and contributed to 65% or okc points that season 🤔
Westbrook it’s a no brainer
Stats will always for Russ...but you spoke about context...drose was 22 years old...ill say it again...he was 22 yrs old and lead his team to the league best record...this wasn't even prime drose yet...I love russ but he absolutely hit his peak that season and over achieved on a lackluster team...I'd still go Drose on this one. But I'm not mad at it either way...
The only edge Westbrook has is stats. Rose led a team to 62 wins and a conference finals appearance with Keith Bogans as his starting shooting guard come on now. This video is wack juice
Why do you not mention how Russ padded those stats? Or mention how Harden had a legitimate argument over Westbrook as MVP that year?
Russ was out of this world in his prime he could get to the rim with ease shoot it midrange 3 ball grab boards playmake
One of the most disrespected players in history
The Windy City Assassin!
DRose before the injuries.
It used to be John wall vs Derrick Rose
Oscar Robertson, Russell WestBrook, Derrick Rose,Ja Morant and Scoot Henderson all play the same
It aint fair to compare the two great legends cuz u are comparing a young drose who is just on his 3rd season and not on his prime to westbrook who is on his 9th season and on his prime years but the thing is a YOUNG MVP DROSE is just a little bit short of russ but if drose was already in the bench in game 1 in 2012 playoffs and u campare the two in 2015 or something drose is better, and if u look at the both in their 1st 4 season drose is way better. Btw great vid a like from me and a new sub from me.
They talk about Russ like he's a younger player than Rose
I'd take D🌹 all day over westbrook
D rose is a lesser westbrook he didnt reach that type of prime
2017 westbrook there should be absolutely no debate
🌹
Easily Russ. I don’t think it’s even close.
Not to mention that the Bulls lost Ben Gordon in free agency along with some key injuries on that Bulls team the following season. Rose had the better MVP year.
Russ had a worse supporting cast those bulls teams were good
Imagine thinking this is a question
Rose better but westbtook had better season
They were in the same draft. To be fair Why not compare Rose year 3 to Westbrook year 3. You comparing 3 years of pro development to 9 years of pro development.
I mean even if you do that their stats are similar. Rose averaged more points and more blocks.
Russ averaged more assists, rebounds, more turnovers and more steals.
They both shot 44% from the field and 33% from three. Rose shot 85% from ft and Russ shot 84%
I swear Russell Westbrook is 6 4 1/2
He 6”4” with shoes and 6”3” wlo
You could argue that Russel Westbrooks historic usage rate held his team back from growing and developing chemistry 🧪 that season. For that reason I’m taking Prime D-Rose.
Exactly. He wasn't playing winning basketball. It's like young Wilt Chamberlain - looks flashy but not a good system for the team as a whole (which is an even worse indictment on Westbrook as a point guard). Wilt later got better coaches and proved that he could play winning basketball, but Westbrook never did so.
D-rose was actually winning against historically great teams. (That's why the video giving Westbrook points for tougher competition was silly. He *lost* to great teams. Rose *beat* great teams)
@@harmonicarchipelgo9351 russ was on a very bad team kd left him for dead they were in a very tough west feel srry for westbrook I thought he could carry a better built team that yr
@@letstalk140 And Rose had a great team built around him? Not really.
Besides, If Westbrook had a bad team, then he could not demonstrate his alleged potential and thus should not even have been MVP. Results are results. Speculation on what might have been is not proven. MVP is for who actually had the best season, not who you think would have had the best season in different circumstances.
@@harmonicarchipelgo9351 I love James harden to but I think westbrook did the most with less it's almost crime if u dont give him the mvp cuz without him okc wouldve been in the lottery
@@letstalk140 Is 47 win 6th seed and first round exit that much better than the lottery (eg 9th seed)? Plus pulling a trash team to be slightly better than average is far less impressive than making an average team excellent. Was he ever the best player on a contender? When he played on a great team (KD Thunder), was he the reason the team was good? I know there was some debate about that at the time, but looking back Westbrook was no Durant.
Face it, prime Westbrook was all-NBA but no MVP. I respect his game, but let's acknowledge what it is.
Drose had boagoans and brewer what scoring did he have
I'm going with D 🌹
You cannot compare D Rose to anyone!! He never hit his full potential. Plus the amount of possessions per game was a lot higher during Russ’s MVP year. He was a 22 year old who led his team to 62 wins. Stop comparing this man to every slashing PG and just appreciate his greatness
🌹 for the win
Harden once put up 60 in a triple double thats the highest points scored
U can compare my boi d rose if we bein fr jus stop it. Adams used 2 jump 2 the side on some of them rebounds if u know what I'm sayin
Derrick GOAT Rose 22 years. Russel Westbrook 29 years. Russel need 7 years of development and training to have a chance to be compared with Derrick Rose 22 years. This say how incredible Derrick Rose MVP was!!! Derrick Rose GOAT!!!!
D Rose when I drop to the paint get a foul Imma still get a swish uh huh
I think for being in the moment, Rose’s was greater and had more impact on those who watching at the time
5:08 harden had a 60 point triple double
Drose wins because he was the second bull to micheal Jordan
Westbrook got MVP because he did something that hadn't been done for a long time and now has become common place.
Rose's MVP is like all other MVPs being the most valuable player on a number 1 or 2 seed in the conference.
....bruh no one had seen a 21 yr old mvp. Thats more historical tgan averagung a TD
@@SeanNg__n of course that is true. But he got his MVP by leading the team to the number one seed.
Westbrook is underrated tbh his prime it was shades of mjs athtlitc ability
I’ll take the stats with the Ws any day over a stat padding brick layer.
1) Russ was a walking bucket in 2017, no bricks to speak of.
2) He wasn't stat padding, he was putting that sorry excuse for a supporting cast on his back.
Stop talking through your feelings.
Better change the award to "Most Valuable Player In The Best Team" then
Westbrook is only better because he didn’t have a career-altering injury, there is no doubt in my mind if D Rose didn’t get injured that this story would be the same. 💯
russ had his meniscus injured in 2013, but he came back even better.
Russ was left for dead that season stamped him historically he was hitting game winners like they were free throws
@@letstalk140 I don't remember how many game winners he hit but I agree Russ had a great season but with context statistically I don't think it's as good as people say because of his usage rate, efficiency, turnovers, and the fact that people think averaging a triple double means something in terms of who's better.
@@ankhboldcrain9954 russ was on a another level that year he led the league in almost everything never seen someone dominate like that even with his high usage
@@letstalk140 he was great statistically but those numbers were inflated due too the style they played and the role Russ played on the team. I agree the season was great but it's not as impressive when you're being force fed the ball every play and the teammates are letting you do everything because that's the only way the team knows how too play. I take the player who lead how his team that was comparable with his two starting big man, 1 of whom was the second best player, out for half of the season to 60 wins which was the best in the league and he got the team too the conference finals. The help category is obviously flawed. That year westbrook have a mission and its an individual/selfish mission. To avg a triple double he is hogging the ball too much and stealing rebounds from teammates. Victor oladipo is a great player but he appeared to be bad because russ controla who and when players can shoot. As soon as oladipo was traded to the pacers he became an all star

you can have the same story about westbrook stealing steve adam' rebounds, what happened to adam' rebound after he left okc? It should have increase right? NOPE adams became trash. What about Westbrook's rebounds, since in okc his team was letting him steal rebounds off them, then westbrook's rebound number should fall after he left okc right? AGAIN NOPE, still avged the same rebounds in washington. Think that answers your problem
@@boenchen9381 It's stupid to refute my argument with just numbers that can mean so many things when the evidence I have are video proof of russ stealing rebounds from steven adams, you can look it up here in youtube. Instead of moving ahead for a fastbreak russ would usually stay behind for the rebound. BTW russ rebounds avgs are only up in his last 3 season with OKC and 1 season with washington, what about his 1 season in houston and 2 with lakers when his rebounds went down? Again it can also mean that russ is doing the same thing in washington, chasing rebounds

He led the league in scoring, while being 2nd in assists. He was a guard who was 8th in rebounding. Also he was #1 in almost every clutch statistic.
