    Hiya, just wanted to tell you both how much joy it brings me watching you two look for treasures. I watch video after video soaking it up, just as excited as you get. I'm in Australia, I'm 60yr old and have always loved searching for little treasures. I recently worked at the local tip. I LOVED IT, the things people threw out after their grandparents died or another elderly person. It would break my heart sometimes to see years of someone's needle work, sewing bits and bobs, painting brushes, vintage fabrics, so much costume jewellery and anything in between. My poor little car would be bursting at the seams each night when I knocked off. I've saved and restored most of it. Unfortunately I'm running low on materials because I've been quite ill and had to stop working. Yr videos inspire me to get out and start searching for goodies. THANKYOU LOVELY LADIES 😊✌💕

    @kellydiver Před 3 lety +1

    Potter here. Great job! Please be sure to wear a respirator when dealing with clay dust, or better yet, clean up your greenware outdoors while wearing a mask. Also, no need to blend air into your slip (although that worked pretty well). Just put little chunks of clay into a cardboard box or something to dry completely, then put it in a jar or small bucket and pour water over it. The clay will naturally break down into slip. If you still have some clumps that need broken up, just use an immersion blender or even a paint stick. The wetter your slip, the more it will shrink. If it’s too thin, let it settle some and pour some water off the top. You can keep slip like this in a jar pretty much indefinitely, just giving it a stir before using. I’m so glad you’re making more videos of your arts and crafts. They’re so fun to watch!

    Sanding tip: you can buy ( at a hardware store) a package of sanding screen. They are meant for drywall. They look like window screen, but are perfect for flat sanding. As long as you use a circular motion & gentle touch, you can flat sand a lot in less time.
    The screen loses its grit easily, so I tack 2 corners at one end on thin board or thick cardboard, so you can tip the dust off into the dustbin. Well worn strips are great for sanding sharp edges on glass or metal.
    Clean powdered dust saved in a pill bottle can be sprinkled over Superglue after gluing, to increase adhesion and is easily sanded with an Emery board. Yes, the kind you use for your nails. Great work girls. Keep safe & busy ....many are going batty due to lockdown.

    The oldest porcelain dolls were made by first forming flat pieces of clay like a sheet or square. While still moist they would be pressed into the mold. The pieces of the mold would be brought together and the clay pressed together at the seams. Later dolls were made by pouring slip into the mold which was already joined together. First they would fill up the mold, then pour out the excess slip. Thus the greenware and the final head would be hollow. I used to made reproduction porcelain dolls until the specialty craft shop I used closed. Porcelain dolls are generally not glazed, just painted and fired again but at a lower temperature. China dolls are glazed. We relied on a company called Seeley's for books and supplies. You have brought back happy memories for me, thank you. ♡

    Many years ago I was a picture framer in an art store in Lakewood,NJ U.S.A.
    I met a Mrs/MS Tuttle who belonged to a society of Porcelain Doll Makers.
    She would take a portrait of someone, often children and create a replicate of the face and limbs which resulted in a realistic porcelain doll.
    I think she was quite well known .
    This video brought back my memory of her,thank you.
    I am amazed at the detailed porcelain figure remnants you find.
