Today weâre talking EQ pedals and how to use them as a guitar player. Using the EB-10 EQ // Boost Utility from Walrus Audio Effects, Iâll be demonstrating the three main ways I would use an EQ pedal in a rig of my own.
The first way would be to simply âfine tuneâ my tone depending on the environment Iâm playing in. Your amp is typically going to sound quite different when used in different venues/environments, so being able to cut or boost low, mid and high frequencies from your pedalboard is going to come in very handy when you need to make changes on the fly and ensure that youâre happy with your tone throughout your set. As demonstrated in the video, adjusting the EQ controls on your amps control panel is not the same as adjusting low, mid and high-frequencies on an EQ pedal - they allow you to boost and cut frequencies in ways that your amp is not capable of replicating.
Another way Iâll use an EQ in my rig, is as a boost pedal. Most EQ pedals give you the option of boosting your overall output level, and this combined with the ability to boost and cut frequencies means you can get the jump in volume required for a solo whilst taming high frequencies that might sound too harsh without the use of EQ.
The boost function on EQ pedals is also useful for when youâre using different guitars (with differences in output) on the same gig. Switching from a humbucker-equipped electric to one with single-coils will often result in a noticeable volume drop.
The EB-10 gives you the ability to save and switch between three different presets using the bypass switch alone. This allows you to create EQ presets for use with different guitars, that you can add a boost to when you need to compensate for a difference in output.

Fantastic video!
Love the thumbnail. A true artist!
Nice vid Ross, as usual ! I particularly appreciate the different licks/riffs you use for your demos, always original and spicy ! Keep going dude ! đ
Thank you!
I've been using 2 Boss GE-7 eq's into a DM-2 into a 50 watt Marshall JCM800 for 30 years. Still my favorite tone..
I think this is one of the best gear review video. Yes we know EQs fine tune the tone indeed and you are showing the examples in perfect way. Thank you for making these great videos!!
Thanks Jeff!
It's the Joe Bonamassa sound man! Amazing!
EQ pedals are definitely good to have in any case, I feel like they open some more tonal and tuned sets. Awesome work!
For sure. Thanks!
@@RossCampbellGuitarist You are welcome!
should always use one... for years different venues changed my tone... eq pedal fixes the issue. I even changed my tele for a gibson, as one night the tele was sharper than a butchers knife. eq sorts it.
Very good demo. I don't have an EQ pedal and have been asking myself if I should. Now I think so. One comment asked where you placed it in the chain. I know you weren't running a chain but I'm into playing Space rock. We use the lack of fans to stick more pedals in the empty venues lol. Seriously, if you were running a few pedals - overdrive, fuzz, delay, chorus, flanger, phaser, wa-wa, where in the chain would you recommend having the EQ?
I would probably place it before any gain stages if I was just using it for EQ tweaking and keeping things consistent between different guitars. If it was for a boost then likely after drive pedals. Some people even recommend throwing it in the FX loop. Experiment and find what works for you!
@@RossCampbellGuitarist Thanks Ross.
What scale is in 10:52? May be impro over F# lydian?
Great sound large smile when you said axe fx cause thats my world ..
I also own a Dumble ultra phonic if you know how to tone match correctly help me out....
Show me how before I sell it off....
You own a Dumble amp?
Good video! Where in your chain is the EQ? Thanks!
Thanks Antonio! It's the only pedal in the chain - straight into the amp (Axe-Fx II).
@@RossCampbellGuitarist Awesome tone!
Great no non-sense review. Loving the preset ability and applications when switching guitars(LP vs tele vs strat, etc).
Thanks!
Lol the rooms pretty echoey for having foams tho.
Just an observation.
this guitar looks exactely like a gibson es 335.
Looks like an Ibanez JEM to me.
@@RossCampbellGuitarist really? hm, maybe you are right.
Come on to many commercials
