Social media is in a frenzy after tourism officials announced the new slogan for our state. They've replaced “Nebraska Nice” and “The Good Life”. The new slogan: Nebraska: honestly, it's not for everyone.
That slogan is perfect to hardcore travellers and tourists. Most pleasure travellers are outgoing and will most likely see it as a "challenge" per se. It'll be like, "Not for everyone? I'll be the judge of that. Honey! We're going to Nebrska for our next vacation."
@@MrHeroicDemon I might not end up there after all.. seems tough to get into some places in Omaha I been looking at and while some been nice, info isnt volunteered a lot at the same time. Like u have to find it urself and when u do, and when u ask, u get answers but people arent over helpful like in the south. I had interest though and I infact selected Omaha, but they gotta select me also.
I like it. It's funny, self-deprecating and will arouse curiosity to visit the state. However, to my dear pheasant-hunting dad, Nebraska's best attraction will always be Cabela's in Kearney.
Cabela's anywhere is always a great attraction. All the stuff that I won't buy but if I hunted or fished more often I would. Browsing paradise. I don't window shop often but when I do it's Costco, car dealerships or Cabela's ha
I enjoyed watching your video of your trip through Nebraska…I relocated after a divorce with 2 children (9 and 13) to Lincoln in 1984 from Tuscaloosa, AL. I was in culture shock but soon fell in love with everything about it - the people, the state, the values… I had never been further north than Tennessee. I was born and raised in New Orleans. I committed to visit New Orleans every 6 months to keep by children connected to family and my roots. I never looked back. Forty years later, best decision I ever made. I love and appreciate everything about NE my children are now 53, 49 and 35. I think they will be forever Nebraskans too. Honestly, Nebraska, it’s not for everybody,” and that’s a good thing.
I'm Canadian and Nebraska has never been on my radar until now. I think this advertising campaign is hilarious and it actually has me interested. "Nebraska Nice" and "The Good Life" have all the excitement of an empty package of tofu. "Honestly, it's not for everyone" is genuinely funny and "there's nothing to do here" actually sounds really nice if you're looking for a relaxing getaway.
As originally from New England, I would never have thought about visiting Nebraska. That was until I was stationed there for 2 years while in the USAF. And I was pleasantly surprised by Nebraska; the area was pretty fun. The food scene is amazing; you can get anything there. Nebraskan locals are also very nice people.
The slogan make perfect sense when you see it paired with the images from the ad campaign. I think it's funny and rather clever, and it's unexpected in a way that gives you a fresh view of a State that doesn't normally get a lot of attention. It does, however, require the ads to go along with it. It clearly has the potential to be confusing on its own, especially to people with a more literal way of thinking. But even then, to someone from out of state it has a curiosity factor, which is the reason why I watched this video-- to find out what was behind the slogan. 😀
i don’t think i’ve ever heard a news story from nebraska. or ever talked about the state. but now i have and now i am. so it worked, and maybe one day when i’m not broke, i may just go there
Having once many years ago lived just a few miles from the state line, I always found reasons NOT to go to Nebraska, the top one being "What the &^@& do you do in Nebraska!?". So, Honestly, First time I've ever wanted to go to Nebraska to see what it might have to offer, other than driving back and forth in front of Warren Buffet's house. Nice one Nebraska!
Dude, I never thought about going to Nebraska before, and it looks nice!! I also think, though, that it's sort of sad to see the old one go away. Maybe there could have been a change somewhere in the middle? Like perhaps just put ads out like that, instead of throwing away a really nice old slogan? I dunno, I don't live there. *shrug* Looks like it's working though.
I dig the new slogan! NE resident here. I think it’s achieving exactly what it was set to. The people who are offended are the older demographic that lives here, & the opposite of the target. And the media uproar hasn’t been bad either. ...and yes, if it wasn’t this, it would have been “Ohp, sorry, let me sneak past ya.”
I was in Omaha for a wedding this weekend and the priest said the slogan during his homily and when he explained how the bride convinced the groom to come to Nebraska 😂
the slogan "Honestly, it´s not for everyone" is genius...now i wanna know if its something for me and i wanna go there for no reason at all i just wanna do it haha
Obviously, the people interviewed for this piece don't work in advertising. We're three years down the road and they're still running these ads. So they must be working effectively at attracting tourism to Nebraska. They're hilarious, and my guess is they've done more to entice people to visit Nebraska than anything else that's run on TV in the last decade.
Looooove it!!!! Honest sales pitch for the folks of Neb are so relaxed and layd back its all about the simple life and good people. Iv lived in so many areas around the country that have copious amount of things ta do in the city or in catering to the outdoorsy types. But the people suck. In Neb its the other way around. Not a lot (still shit ta do) to cater to the individual but the people are great! Heaven forbid an add sorta touches on that w awesome humor :)
All I see is a PR sub-committee of another committee hiring a firm to come up with something "fresh" and "catchy" and "outside the box". Pure Michigan' ad campaign has both straight forward and sarcastic. Most of the views on here are for the latter.
Of course it sounds bad when you quote it out of context, with no background information. Nebraska is a Midwest state that most people, who aren't from Nebraska, consider to be a very bland and boring state, just because of what they understand about the central US (it's flat, boring farmland with nothing to do there). It's right next to Kansas, which imo is the most depressing place in the country to live. So the point of their ad campaign is to dispel what they consider a myth via sarcasm and irony. That's why the quotations are associated with people rafting down a river, or standing on top of a waterfall. The words by themselves, read by these monotonous news anchors certainly sound like they are trying to paint Nebraska in a poor light, but in their full context, as they are meant to be read, they are quite funny and imo effective.
the campaign is funny, a bit of reverse psychology between the slogan and the imagery .. i had a _"how boring is it?"_ preconception of Nebraska .. images in the add certainly turned that around
never wanted to visit before because it didn't sound like it had anything to offer me. now with its new slogan... i want to see it even less. really that desperate for people?
Well Nebraska Is not for people who hate cold, are Vegans, Who are democrats. due to being super conservative and Corn haters. btw I suggest you have a basement if you wanna live in Nebraska
How's it negative? Space travel's not for everyone but that doesn't mean it's bad. The marketing is obviously targeted at nature enthusiasts and a slower vacation which- isn't for everyone...
if you take the words and then put them into context with a picture like tubing with some friends then it shouldn't matter. Reverse psychology. People upset about this are stupid and no nothing of advertising.
Stupidity at its best. Whoever is promoting this needs to be fired. Nebraskans aren't arrogant. This slogan will give the wrong perception of us being arrogant and standoffish. You need to stop it immediately!
It's Nebraska. It's the corn capital of the world, both literally and figuratively. A slogan can not be constructed in the English language that would drive tourism to LA or NYC heights. Except it.
This was a great idea. Nobody was thinking about Nebraska before this ad campaign, and now we're here talking about it.
Garrett J legit tho nothing to do here
Honestly, it's the first time I was ever curious about Nebraska.
That slogan is perfect to hardcore travellers and tourists. Most pleasure travellers are outgoing and will most likely see it as a "challenge" per se.

Lol thanks Phil for making me debate on going to Nebraska

@@HighOnAmmo This was the original store (back in the 80s) and was nothing like the present-day masterpieces they have built.
Haha I don't think the older generation gets it... I'm not from America but suddenly I want to go to Nebraska 😄
oh man the struggle is real lol
its a lovely place :)
IKR

Yeah, honestly this is smart marketing.
Dan Savage YEP!
I actually really like it. It makes me want to actually go more.
Now I want to go there tho..
Same.
I dig it, everyone has been saying that about Nebraska forever, might as well own it.

HAHAHA amazing
Nebraska corny as it sounds...

Yo we drove past that billboard yesterday

This is a great slogan!!! Makes me want to go there even more than I already do (to be fair I have some awesome relatives that live there).
Agent Ham Then you should go visit if you can!
To be fair, I've never even heard of the previous slogans. At least this one is in the news.

Defranco?
Honestly sounds like a great vacation spot. Nothing to do but enjoy peace and quiet.
lol, this video made me realize that I couldn't even think of a single city in Nebraska, not even the capital.
I looked it up. It's Lincoln.
I was in Omaha for a wedding this weekend and the priest said the slogan during his homily and when he explained how the bride convinced the groom to come to Nebraska 😂
Well, hell. Now I kinda wanna check it out just to see if it is for me or not.

how many people heard of this story and the ad because of the slogan. It worked, very well.

Okay, what is there to do in Nebraska?
Nothing.

Nebraska...Honesty, It's not for anyone.
It is a Horribly boring state that has very little of interest
"not for everybody" is not an insult. Lots of nice things aren't for everybody. Like college for example, or anal sex.
