- The Philippines is taking steps to ensure China does not dominate the South China Sea by building its first BrahMos anti-ship missile base aimed at the contested waters. Satellite imagery from Maxar Technologies appears to show the development of the base, which includes a high bay for maintenance and testing, as well as a separate shelter for missile storage.

Indian version of Brahmos has a range of 600km soon to be extended to 800km and then to 1000+ km. But due to MTCR rules 290km is range for exports.
900 km ranged Brahmos is tested and now already ordered by the Indian Navy. Soon Brahmos X is getting tested, It's speed is 4.5 Mach and 15% cost reduction with no Russian parts.
Brahmos-NG is going to take care of some of the limitations due to MTCR
Don't need the long range because it's for defense within it's coast.

Now the PAF has to purchase more Spyder System to protect the Brahmos,so far the PAF has only 3 batteries of MR,if the project is at least 6 Brahmos batteries,that means 6 Spyder with LR instead of MR,plus another 8 batteries of Spyder to protect the rest of the Philippines from missile attacks.WIth a budget of 1%GDP goodluck that would take 25 years,Filipino tax payers should encourage their lawmakers to increase to 2%,instead of using the budget to get themselves reelected by making useless projects all over the country.

The key to defending a country is to strengthen missile defense of a country. Missile innovation is key. Gone are the days of jetfighters. Drones & missiles are the new strategy.

To any Filipino defence expert here, why are you not building missile boats that could be named as corvettes or patrol vessels?
Even after having so many destroyers, frigates, Indian Navy still inducts Missile boats that are true force multipliers that are also spread across the vast oceans.

Philippines has already some ships ordered from South Korea and I think the lastest addition to Philippine navy ships is a missile boat from Israel. Now regarding on Philippines capabilities to build ships, it's not on a level that can build large ships only small patrol boats.

They are constructing two more ports that have capabilities manufacturing Israeli designed warships and training.
They are currently procuring 3 submarines. South Korea and France are currently bidding for said submarine contract.
A Nuclear powerplant is also being considered to be put back into service to power said war factories. (Supposedly will be the first operational powerplant in all of South East Asia)
The Philippines recently made a deal with Japan that involves procurement of 4 more warships, naval surveillance system and missile interceptor system.
The Philippines is an extremely pacifist country. Never really considered building it's military since the country has very very few enemies and was only bothered equipping itself with domestic terrorism in mind. They decided to not fk around this time due to China.

Those who say the Phillipines should have bought ATACMs or PSBMs from the USA instead of BrahMos, here's the thing :
1) USA is phasing out ATACMs by giving it to Ukraine in the war, and replacing it with PSBMSs, so it will not produce any ATACMs in the future and soon run out of those.
2) USA doesn't have enough PSBMs for itself so its not going to give it to its allies until it has had its share, it'll take a couple of more years.
Conclusion : So, the Phillipines military did the right thing.
