  • Ok, so not the most visually-glamorous video but this is about the sounds...
    As an Atomic-Amplifire enthusiast, i love the device and depend on it when i need to travel light.
    Initially, i wasn't impressed with the HX but, after investing some time, recreated most of my favourite AA sounds in the Line6 HX stomp XL with some great results. This demo was done by A/B switching a Fender Telecaster between the two units plugged directly in to DAW (no additional processing- what you hear is what comes out of the devices)

    I have no affiliation with nor endorsed with Atomic or Line6/Yamaha at the time of making this video. Apologies for the out-of-focus VU meters and lighting issues. Was recorded quickly prior to leaving for a gig. Use your ears!!

      thank you for your compliment. Obviously, there are small differences but in the environment of a live situation (or any full-mix) they're negligible

    I have Atomic 6 and Helix LT. Everytime I think of selling the atomic, I plug it in and amazed how good it sounds right away. Seems like the feel is there right away. Pretty cool in the FX loop of a decent tube amp.

    Brilliant comparison. I have AA3 I’ve toured the world with it. Always sounds and feels real to me. Curious what amp sim your using on the. Atomic for the Lonestar tone. Cheers & Well done.

    Very similar tones. I think I'd put the AA slightly ahead. It sounds a little more open and transparent to my ears. Very very close though. Unlikely you'd notice a difference in a mix.

  • @Scorstin
    @Scorstin Před 2 lety

    wow, they're closer than I remember them being...some settings are basically identical. When I compared them myself a couple of years back, I thought there was no contest between the two in terms of amp sounds - for Marshally and higher gain sounds mainly, the Atomic just sounded and felt better. Hence I kept one. That was with some older firmware from Line6 though so maybe they caught up? Thanks for the vid! :)

      thank you. As mentioned, the cab IR plays a big part in the sound

    • @Scorstin
      @Scorstin Před 2 lety

      @@SLATEB0Y of course, like in a real amp the actual speaker and micing method impart the most of their character on your sound. Often very underrated :) when comparing, using the same IR is a must!

      Hi David, yes- those presets are available if you are interested. Take a look at this video also: czcams.com/video/26g0L9_r0VI/video.html.
      These sounds, as mentioned in the video, rely on importing cab IRs rather that using the "stock" cabs. Find them here: www.greendog.co.uk/hx (some free demos available)

    The AA seems a bit more livelier and open while the HX seems more like it has been masked.

    • @SLATEB0Y
      @SLATEB0Y  Před 2 lety

      good question. I prefer the layout (extra buttons) of the Atomic but prefer the effects of the HX. Amp-wise sounds they're very close. I havent gigged the HX yet and still need to configure the buttons for efficient use. Both units have their strengths and I'm still learning how to use the HX so, for now, i will gig the Atomic

    Wow, these sound so close as to make pretty much no difference. I bought an AA12 when they first came out so have stuck with it. I've got most of the effects I need in a presets that I can just copy the blocks from, but setting them up from scratch was hard, especially with all of those parameters. Used AA's are where the bargains are, but Atomic they are struggling with a promised firmware update (18 months and counting) and their forum is currently down. Line 6 don't have these issues.

    • @SLATEB0Y
      @SLATEB0Y  Před rokem

      thanks for your comments. Agree with you. Shame AA dont have the marketing and support that line6 do. its a great product that doesnt get the attention it deserves although I get the feeling Atomic have given up making any effort.

      Rob Chapman has popped up saying he is collaborating with Atomic, whatever that means. Let's see.
      I just listened to this again and I think Atomic has the edge sonically. It sounds livelier, more present and less compressed than the HX, particularly on the higher gain tones.
      How are you getting on with the HX?

  • @christopherwalker2097

    I have owned both. I never have downloaded IRs on either. I liked the AA amp sounds better and the touch and note separation was better. I noticed it was easier for me to play harder licks on the AA .
    Stomp was good though .

  • @constantinosmavroyannis9409

    the amplifire is a good piece of gear (was great for when it came out is good now) but i have sold mine and wouldnt even consider getting one again since the company has literally left the users out to dry and ghosted even service requests ending up with people waiting for more than a year for their pedals/frfr cabs to get repaired. such a shame gallo's great ideas didn't get picked up by an actually competent company...

    • @SLATEB0Y
      @SLATEB0Y  Před 2 lety +2

      i think many atomic users feel the same way. Such a shame. It's still a great piece of kit but appears to have been neglected by the developers.
