I was going to join in calling this "absolutely impossible," but considering Simp's record with winning when he says that, I'll say "entirely too easy".
The way he was talking, I think he didn’t read “or to” in the challenge. But honestly I think the challenge is better when you pieces can make desperado moves into the middle only to get stuck there….
I knew what I was gonna find in the comments but it's still funny how people keep commenting about the challenge blunder no matter how many others have already mentioned it. I love it.
As the challenge states that your pieces (and pawns) can't move from or TO the three files, Charlie capturing enemy Edward shouldn't have been possible. Nice game nonetheless.

@n-icebeam Because the challenge restricted going "to" or from" those chosen files. A pawn that doesn't capture can move _along_ the file, neither entering nor leaving it; as could a queen moving like a rook.
According to the challenge, he could have moved on the center files - just not to/from them. Thus, his black bishop can't move, the pawns on def can't capture, Queen and King are limited to their file. Nothing is said about moving. However, the first pawn capture males this challenge a loss

@@Nostale97 That's not how English works. ShannaroCold is right, that would absolutely have been to the letter of the challenge! Perhaps not the spirit, but definitely the letter.
@@CSmyth- So if I move the queen from d8 to d1, wouldn't you say that I have moved the queen from the d file to the d file? Or from which file and to which file would you say the queen has moved? I'm just curious, since English is not my first language
@@Nostale97 'From' means that you would have moved it out of the d file. As it stays in the d file, it's been moved 'through' or 'within' the d file. So you wouldn't say it has moved 'from' the file at all.
Right? He arguably had a pretty operable setup with all the files touching, meaning he could have used the vague language to allow movement within the corrupted files, allowing the pieces some diagonal movement as well.
While Simp did blunder the challenge, I also didn't realize that the challenge prohibits going TO those files so I actually have no problem in thinking that the challenge is just prohibiting any pawn/pieces on those files to move is my headcanon. That way it's actually a really well done challenge.
Except that's not the way the challenge is written. Some commenters, myself included, interpret the challenge's terms as allowing movement _along_ the restricted files.
not only did he blunder the challenge, he also misread it. "you cannot move FROM or TO these files" that means that the pieces that start within these files are still allowed to move within that space, which makes D, E and F a pretty lucky pull!
Incorrect. Moving _between_ the corrupted files would still be illegal. You could move _along a_ corrupted file, or _through_ corrupted files to safe files, as Simp was planning to do with his Rook, but not _between_ them.
@@Donald_the_Potholer I don't think that's what they were implying, exactly. Even just moving within each file, you could push the pawns and open things up, and move the queen up or down. It's not a free win, but at least gives you enough options to keep things going.
Idk, getting E might not be that bad. Would you rather have lost a horse or the other bishop? I think the bad luck here was more so not getting either of the rooks corrupted, which could still be useful unlike the bishop and would reduce utility less than for the queen.
Guys, i think he interpreted the challenge as "the pieces and pawns on the disabled files cant move" which is why he didnt move any of the pieces and pawns in the disabled files, basically i think he interpreted the challenge wrong
