Did it in 84 with 131 commando, para's hanging out of the window taking the piss, soon stopped when they saw we were doing it in 58 webbing and tin hat, 😂😂
Gen Jon? As depot was in catterick at least 3 years before 98, i was in 2 para then in bruneval bks an never done a trainasium in the shot or in colly when we moved there.
This is a bespoke civvie trainasium. Civvies aren't allowed on the real thing and apparently the real one at Catterick isn't quite the same as the old one at Aldershot.
On the old Red Trainaisium no, when they built this new one in Depot Para, yes there was I do believe. On the old one (which I did in Junior Para in 72) the thing that stopped you falling was hitting the ground.!!!!!
Bolloc*s there are solid platforms 10 feet below the parallel bars, the real thing there is nothing between you and the floor except your bottle, hence the test, and the “nuts’ you had to step over were not parallel to each other on the shuffle bars. HES win again lol, good on ya though lads
Did it in 1969 when it was in the woods outside Aldershot nothing like as neat and clean all old scaffolding and wooden planks covered with hessian. Then the shuffle bars were above the top of the trees and unless you looked down you could not see the ground just the tops of trees all around you in any direction .
I've completed the Tranasiumm and this look DIFFERENT to the one I went on??? Are there any old soldiers out there who can confirm if my memory is shot to hell, or if this is indeed DIFFERENT to the one we completed back in the day? Cheers!
This was a temporary structure, purposely built for a tv show. As civilians no matter how famous cannot go on the trianasium in the ITC, so we built one, it only represented the parts of the trianasium that they wanted to replicate. , those however match the exact criteria as the original now situated in Helles Baracks ITC Catterick. It looks deiiferent as it had no foundations so was a feat of scaffolding engineering to build.
@@adrenalinnorthyorkshireltd8269 - Many, many thanks for your response. I was beginning to doubt my memory and you have set my mind at ease. Cheers, from Australia!
I went through Para Reg Depot (319 Platoon 1967). The height is about right - I think. The spars (poles) in this video appear to be slimmer. The Tranasium I went through was made of your ordinary housebuilding scaffolding poles (Aldershot). The two scaffolding poles at the top which made the test - had an ordinary builders scaffolding clamp placed on each pole that one had to negotiate. Problem was they were placed about 2 ft apart (picture it you lift your right leg up to get over one clamp then shuffle along and lift your left leg etc). A lot of guys found it difficult - I think they lost their sense of balance due to the height. I'm not blowing my trumpet here - but I found it extremely easy to accomplish - and I put it down to my working class playground of bravado stunts jumping from air-raid shelter to shelter in my birthplace of Dundee. I make a point - in my experience (I am in my autumn years now) the hardest of soldiers will forever come from the lower classes of our society - they are our unsung mainstay that excel without a silver spoon.

No mud on the surfaces, or a nice drop of jack frost to make it interesting. Happy days..
Helpful👍
Any chance this is still setup?

The one we did in p company was in woods at aldershot
Did this in Jan 98 in Aldershot. Not easy, closed my eyes on the illusion jump.

Is this the actual assault course or a replica?
Hi it’s a replica , built for a tv show with Guy Martin, Normandy Landings.
Done it several times easiest event on pcoy for me ......never worried me .....the log however, now that did worry me 🤣
Lost 13 blokes on the trainasium on mine. Never understood why!
@@Shed_Heeran_AAV not everyone's cup of tea....remember some lads proper shitting it before the trainasium....
